I went to Glendale

Tough crowd, not quite as bad as Trevor Browne, or PHX Union. I had to go to PHX Union for vocational auto body/paint classes, got scarry at times.

It wasn't as bad then as most people thought. Being very WHITE I was a little worried my Frosh year.. But no harm, most peps were great. Went back for the 20 yr reunion, we went to the Home coming game,,,, WOW, I would be scared now.....

We used to always ride up to the GOLDEN SPOKE on 51st Dunlap. He moved over to 67th a T-Bird a few years ago, I went in there a few years ago and asked him about old school inventory,, HE THOUGHT I WAS DAMM CRAZY,,, Said, nobody is into that stuff.... HAAA, if they only knew...

Let's talk about Galen some more. It's always fun to get him to crawl out of the wood work. hehehehehe.......

Now that I'm out of my hole, what can we discuss??!! biggrin.gif

Shannon, Galens kinda like that Genie in the bottle, only instead of just rubbing the bottle you have to shake it up a bit,.........maybe drop it on the floor,.........kick it down the stairs,...........then he'll show up tongue.gif

I haven't read this entire thread, but I do recall a couple of Arizona old school legends. Does anyone remember John Bear who rode for Panda and Darren Beach? Those were two hot shots that dominated Arizona racing back in the dinosaur days.

Yep I remember them Cash, I'm an AZ OS Dinosaur myself. Don't know what happened to John Bear, and not shure of what Darren is up to either, last I knew he was in the Northwest. He is a member here but I havent seen him around for a couple of years.

John and Darren were both my age for 6 months or so a year so we raced together often. Darren was who I hung with most in the late 70s. I use to ride to races with him and his dad. John was no a great friend, but I knew him and his dad. I haven't kept up with what happened to them. I think they were both done by about 1980 or so. I still think Tony Bell was the fastest.

I have Beach's E-mail, but last time I used it it came back un-deliverable. Tom I'm surprised you haven't run into any of the Battles clan, they live up by you

I just remembered something about the first race ever in Yuma Az. We drove there from the valley. Mr B's was the bmx shop in the area and they had a BMX team that had been going to Phoenix and other places to race. Lots of good racers and eventually some of them went on to win some nationals

But back then, they weren't exactly race ready. I Remember a couple of the older Yuma guys (13-16 yrs old) running sew ups! Including a guy named Lonnie who was in my class. By that time some of us had already been racing for a few years at places like Corona, Yarnell, Rancho etc

So basically, we (Mike Hardaway, the Mason family, Jesus Felix, myself etc) came in, swept almost all the classes and the Yuma crew was a little bit upset to say the least. smile.gif

You point/trophy pimper! tongue.gif

I used to go points/trophy pimpin in Prescott, Flagstaff, and Payson AZ. Florance, Gila Bend, Marana, and Casa Grande were tougher cause the Tucson crew was pimpin those tracks and they were damn fast

Mr. B's sounds familiar

In case you didn't get my E-mail, I got the pedals, thanks!

Was that you or your kids on IM the other night?

I stumbled on this site by accident and couldn't resist joining up. My name is Tim Tribe and I raced at the Scottsdale Jaycees' track, Chandler BMX and Blk. Mtn. from '85-'90. During that time, I rode for Scottsdale Schwinn, the Outlaws, and S&K. My years since the racing days have been VERY busy and I've pretty much lost touch with almost everyone I knew from time at the tracks. I occasionally talk to Brent Garrigus (if anyone remembers him). Someone in a previous post mentioned Matt Eggimen - I actually saw his face and name on several real estate signs out here in Gilbert last year...not so much now; don't know if he's still in that business. Would love to hear from anyone from my "era".
Thumperpilot
Welcome to the site Tim Tribe. I worked with Matt Eggimann at ABA until he left for greener pastures a few years a go. He still lives in Gilbert, AZ. and he's still a realtor as far as I know. He real heavy into the baseball thing with his kids. I've only seen him a couple times since he left. Things were weird when he left ABA so it's understandable.
ttribe
Speaking of Gilbert - I don't know the guy in this article (some of you may), but have you seen this story: http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/119279 ? His neighbors are all up in arms over the track in his yard. I don't know about you, but I would have LOVED to have one of these in my neighborhood when I was kid.

Bob Sensabaugh! LOL!!! Didn't his head bob up and down all crazy-like whenever he pedaled?! I'll tell you though, he had some funny quirks, but there was no nicer guy in the pits than him. Seemed like he was friendly to everyone.

Bob raced at the Winter Nats this year at Black Mountain. He moves into 46-50 cruiser later this year. Always good to chat with Bob.

Great story! Speaking of "old" guys on cruisers, anyone remember "Mr. Bill" (raced for Bike Harbor, always wore JT body armor)? Whatever happened to him, anyone know?
Thumperpilot
Mr. Bill ( Bill Ramsey) still rides every so often. He hangs out in Mesa at his shop. It's called The Motorcycle Accessory Shop. It's just off the 202 on Main. He's been riding moto quite a bit too. Real big into the Vintage moto scene.

If JD was in the National Guard, wonder if he was called back up and deployed to Iraq. I hope, for his sake, that was not the case.

The Rana's - oh nothing big. I think it was mostly rivalry stuff. I was riding for S&K at the time and we'd just snatched the Bike Shop #1 title in '87 when CC was pretty close to winning it. It didn't help that I had a bit too much of a mouth on me; and honestly, couldn't back it up...I was never really THAT fast. Anyway, I'll just take responsibility for being young and stupid and leave it at that.

Update from me - married, 3 kids (two boys (ages 9 and 3) and a girl (11 months)). I work in an area called "forensic accounting"; basically means I do financial investigations (including fraud), provide expert witness testimony regarding finance and accounting issues, that kind of thing. Kind of the "sexy" side of accounting...if there is such a thing. My family and I live in Gilbert now; just built a new house but still trying to sell the old one. angry.gif

Hey, any idea what ever happened to Holly Dunn? I know you two were friends there for a while.

Ok that's cool.. Umm Holly Dunn Yes she was the maid of honor in my wedding and then after that i started my Rodeo days and she went other directions.. We kinda grew apart i guess.. I had started a family Ect. She is still here in AZ and married to a Freestyler ( i have block rite now to what his name is) and i heard she has kids now as well.. I also live in Gilbert as well as the Rana's.

I just talked to Ken Rana and he said that he was at the Chandler track with John and Dean and their kids and said he saw George Goodall, Fred High Tower, Troy Robinson.. He said it was cool seeing those guys.. I cannot believe their all still out there.. I may have to take a trip next time they all go ..hahahahahaha Back to the Roots !!
Thumperpilot
I just saw Troy Robinson at work today. I work at ABA so I see those guys all the time. Fred always comes out to the Winters every year and George races all the time. He did take a few years off but started back at it last year and is doing well on the national scene.

Tiffiny, where did you Rodeo? After bikes I started riding Bulls, usually at Bodines place in Estrella, Custers up in Wickenburg, or out at Charlie Sampsons in Maricopa. I quit racing in 81, and finnally got my PRCA card in 83 and rode the Turquois circuit for 3 years. I was heavily involved with the Phoenix Jaycee's and PHX Jaycee's Comancheros from 80-86, 92-96, and 03-05. I doubt we ever ran into each other at the track, but maybe at a Rodeo, your name sounds vary familiar. Maybe you know the Pedigrews, Grinziviichs, Huaptmans, Blakes, Fishers? I remember the Finneys. Man all this is bringing back some good memories of bar hopping down in Chandler and Gilbert durring the Rodeos. Belonging to the Comancheros, it was a given I did some crazy shizit. We got banned from the Fiesta bowl parade because one of our guys roped a motorcycle cop while he was moving. He dropped the rope and no one got physicaly hurt, just the cops pride, it was not a good day.

HAHAHAHA , Too Funny
I also did the circuit for a while, I also helped do some announcing believe it or not at Parada Del Sol .. I was with the NBHA.. Did the Tuquoise Circuit as well ..( Barrels ). I do rememebr the Jaycee's. Rodeo's everywhere, was all over for a while..Did a lot of teh local rodeos and did a few Cali and New Mexico also.. LOL...I am sure we have run into each other somewhere..I Rodeo's with a Tammy Weisenhofer ( JD's Wife ) for a while and she quit and i went on..Also Jackie Sheild, Tommy Achoa, ect.. Yes i do remember the good times at the Chandler Bars ( az ave and warner) what was that place called?? LOL Boy that was trouble and good times.. Do you remember the dances they used to have every Friday night up at Rawhide LOL Man we lived for that Friday Night..We used Ride our horses through Jack in the Box drive through in south Chandler and they would get so pissed.. Those were the good ol days .. I finally sold my Barrel Horse to a little girl in Colorado and a couple years ago they sent me a letter and she has won anythiing and everything on that Horse.. I was so excited for her. Do you still Ride?? I havent riden for a while sold the acreage and moved into the city .. MY daughter was allergic to the horses and both of them really got involved in baseball and Softball so now that's my life.. Hahahaha Well im sure we have run into each other somewhere, small world..
cheez
Parada, LOL! Man, did the PHX Jaycee's and The Scottsdale Jaycee's have a big rivalry goin.

Jack in the box on horseback, great minds think alike, or do the same goofy stuff. My drive thru was the Dairy Queen on Central after my first and last Fiesta Bowl Parade. I needed a coke to go with the Crown Royal I had in my canteen. They got pissed as well but, I think it was because of the tip my horse left at the window. I was riding my Mustang. He got nervouse at parades, and had a case of the Hershey squirts that day.

I wish I could remember the name of that bar also, but there were SO many back then. I was so depressed that J David sold Mr Lucky's. that place was a historic landmark/institution. used to ride a few bulls there just for fun. It was pretty much my second home, great Friday fish fry.

I remember one year for the Gilbert Rodeo Parade the Comancheros were ridin in. Me and and good buddy decided to hit that bar and then camp out next to the Costco on Gilbert rd with the others. When we got back to camp after the bar closed we got hungry and decided to saddle the horses and ride to the 7-11 (didn't want to get busted for driving). I was riding my green broke Appy. Well we got to 7-11 and when I went back out to my horse I simultaniously droppped a foot in the stirup went to jump on and threw a plastic bag with the goodies on the saddle horn. Well my green broke buddy didn't like that bag and the Rodeo was on rite in the 7-11 parking lot. I managed not to get dumped on my azz, but it was hell tryin to get that damn bag off with the horse spinnin circles and buckin like a loon. Ahab runnin out of the 7-11 flappin his damn arms like an idiot didn't help either. I managed to get the bag ripped off the horn and me and my horse were soakin wet in sweat. My buddy was laughing so hard he fell off his horse and I had to get things back under control and go fetch his, all this at about 2 am, priceless. The next day was just another parade with a hang-over like many others.

I got rid of my horses before getting married and moving to Nor Cal in 96. didn't get more when I moved back in 01, moved to Il in 05 . May get a couple more once we get our house sold and moved. Both my youngest kids are in 4H and my daughter wants one real bad. they are alot easier to keep in the Midwest.

If I ever manage to get back for the Winters again WE HAVE GOT TO DO AN AZ RIDER GATHERING!!! It would be a crime if we didn't

I'm so glad I started this thread, but it also makes miss AZ "sniff" sad.gif
