Gday All - Great Site!

I have had this BMX since it was new. I am just trying to confirm the ID of the bike.

I got it after my first BMX (an old Bennett) was stolen back in about 1982. My dad and I went up to Europa Cycles at Liverpool (NSW Aus) and I had it put together to my own specs. Basically, I chose the colors (Chrome, Black and Gold), the pedals and handle bars etc.

The serial number is 1X0--- (with a baseball symbol at the end). It is a non loop-tail and the rear drop outs are about 3mm. The top tube is 20 inches centre to centre. Based on what I have read on this site, I am guessing it is 1981 model made in Japan. And I think it might be a 'Large Pro'?? Am I correct?

The rims are Araya and the hubs Suzue?? I'm not sure about the forks - they don't look like DB forks? The seat is the original DB plastic type and the pads are original.

I stopped riding this bike when I was about 15 when I got into motor bikes and it has been in my parents garage for the past 20 years. My daughter has just got her first bike so I got the DB out of storage and put some new (cheap) tyres on it so I could ride around with her.

This bike still puts a smile on my face every time I get on it. I feel like a teenager again.

Thanks in advance for any help

Dave

No diamond cutout in the fork dropout, and looks like it has "safety washers".

Is that a round hole or a diamond in the HT gusset....can't really see in the pic.

hmmm...neat. Ramon (a member here) could tell you exactly what it is, he's got a lotta DB...as in bikes, and info.

Thanks for the replies

Mark at retrobsession.com thinks its a 1981 non looptail.

I thought I knew a thing or two about DBs, having quite a few in my collection ranging from '78-'83, but I guess I'm wrong, as I've not seen a non-loop before and don't know what a TK is. School me, please!
Kurt.
Gee thanks Dave!

Frazer - the TK was the "entry level" DB from 1979 through to about 1982 or so (when DB entry level moved to Taiwan...).

The TKs were always non looptail and tri moly. Made by Koizumi in Japan. They were available with a D shaped gusset cutout, which were also sold as Centurions in that timeframe, as well as with the diamond cutout like Tarlox's. I much prefer the diamond cutout. Some of the stunt work in BMX Bandits was done on a TK.

Couple of relevant pics below.

Kurt.
PS: Frazer - I'd love to see your '78. I am maintaining a register of all the known 77/78 US-made DBs over at os-db.net. We have identified 16 surviving so far and I am in touch with the original builder of these iconic DBs (the legendary Jere Kirkpatrick). Would love to add yours to the mix.

Your bike was made in late 1981. It could be the 82 model therefore but your safe calling it a 81.
Large Pro and Medium Pro it appears had almost the same top tube length but the angles were different. The angle of the seat stays was more obvious on the Long Pro.
Yours is clearly the TK.
