Hello all. Paul Nichols here. My brother, Kevin turned me onto this site about a week ago and I've been completely taken back in time to a place of tremendous friendship and competition. I need to start by saying that I will be dissapointing you all with my complete lack of photos. Once I left the sport in 1986, I left everything behind (with the exception of a 1985 NBL Columbus Christmas Classic 18-24 2nd place Cruiser trophy that sits at my parents house)...don't really know why that's still around. There may be photos at my parents house, with Kevin, and with others, but I have none of them. However, my mind is full of memories that have shaped me. It's good to see so many names of riders that I've long forgotten about but were so very fast....Boolio is on this thread, too. Currently, I'm a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army stationed at the Pentagon and I own a Specialized Stumpjumper FS hardtail that I ride for fun because I can school most 40+ men on any terrain....thanks to you guys. Looking forward to contributing to the thread with my memories.
I miss you and Kevin & all the good times we had growing up.
Say “hello” to Cindy & the kids (young Adults) for me.
As I reflect back, it’s amazing to me, how BMX molded us into the respectable men we are today. You guys were my family & I mean that.
Most people do not realize the total dedication we had to the sport.
8 hours a day 7 days a week.
I can remember adding the weights to the bikes to build up strength.
Riding in redbud all day long.
We would force ourselves to improve something everyday.
The late night rides downtown.
The endless hours of gate starts in your driveway.
Kevin and his turbo tuck:>)
I can remember the three of us rolling into local towns in your Dodge Dart with all six bikes.
Discipline
Accomplishment
Focus
Drive
Motivation
Strive for Perfection
Growing up together & spending everyday together made us so competitive, so ruthless on the gate.
Man, those times I will never forget.
"Thank you" guys for playing such an important role in my life...
