Hello all. Paul Nichols here. My brother, Kevin turned me onto this site about a week ago and I've been completely taken back in time to a place of tremendous friendship and competition. I need to start by saying that I will be dissapointing you all with my complete lack of photos. Once I left the sport in 1986, I left everything behind (with the exception of a 1985 NBL Columbus Christmas Classic 18-24 2nd place Cruiser trophy that sits at my parents house)...don't really know why that's still around. There may be photos at my parents house, with Kevin, and with others, but I have none of them. However, my mind is full of memories that have shaped me. It's good to see so many names of riders that I've long forgotten about but were so very fast....Boolio is on this thread, too. Currently, I'm a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army stationed at the Pentagon and I own a Specialized Stumpjumper FS hardtail that I ride for fun because I can school most 40+ men on any terrain....thanks to you guys. Looking forward to contributing to the thread with my memories.

I miss you and Kevin & all the good times we had growing up.
Say “hello” to Cindy & the kids (young Adults) for me.

As I reflect back, it’s amazing to me, how BMX molded us into the respectable men we are today. You guys were my family & I mean that.

Most people do not realize the total dedication we had to the sport.

8 hours a day 7 days a week.

I can remember adding the weights to the bikes to build up strength.

Riding in redbud all day long.

We would force ourselves to improve something everyday.

The late night rides downtown.

The endless hours of gate starts in your driveway.

Kevin and his turbo tuck:>)

I can remember the three of us rolling into local towns in your Dodge Dart with all six bikes.

Discipline
Accomplishment
Focus
Drive
Motivation
Strive for Perfection

Growing up together & spending everyday together made us so competitive, so ruthless on the gate.

Man, those times I will never forget.

"Thank you" guys for playing such an important role in my life...

I'm not sure what mike is doing, I know their dad moved to california,
KNichols

39T for a fact I know is John Tichenor, #2 not sure, could be JD Clark, and #3 could be Matt Howard, I remember Him having a black Zeronine uni, (I Think)

John was a little older than me, he changed classes in the middle of the year, i was in the 13 year old class in 1983 all year John changed classes later in the year,
But I don't think he was ever thae same year as you, JD or Matt,

am i right ?/

Do you have a year on that photo Kevin
KNichols
John is correct and number 2 is Scott Heltsley. That is me on the 50N (I had a superstition about running state numbers so I always ran my 50N). That is Matt Howard in the Zeronine out fit. The photo is around 1987 and this was a state qualifier at a track outside of Owensboro.

Matt Howard sliding out. Debandi looking at a Hot Babe and Eddie Lewis going over the top of the berm.

Aww Vastwood BMX, that is the track, How am I not in that pic, 1987, I would have been 17, I cant remember was it 17 and over x or 18 and over x,

But then again I wasn't racing much in 87,

The Saber Team Pic is from the State Championship in Louisville Ky 1982, that pic was taken at the end of the 2nd turn in the last straight, looks like everyone did pretty good, earned their state plates

Here is a link on Jimmy LeVan, and what he has been up to these days,

I'm sure you guy's remember Jimmy,

GregDawson
I remember sitting in my house in NC some 10 years or more ago and I get a call from my dad. "Hey quick, turn on ESPN!" What did I see but Jimmy getting RAD in the X games! I had been out of BMX for some time at that point and had no idea Jimmy was still involved. I was stoked to see him riding so well. I usually see his mom and Susie at a race or two and always look forward the getting updates, except when I hear about his injuries...which is often. Jimmy, keep shredding and stay healthy.

Just got in from Christmas. Spent some time cruising around my old hood in southern Indiana where I lived before we moved back across the river. I hope some of you guys can post up some stuff, I really enjoy seeing the pictures.

Did any one race at the indoor track in Hopkinsville. The track was concrete, had wooden jumps and a starting ramp so steep that you have to pull up at the bottom of it?

What about Fun City in Evansville?

There was also a huge barn in Belleville Illinois where at one race they were slaughtering pig just outside the finish line exit.
