Got butter on that popcorn? I'm hungry.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm diggin' that Super BMX letter sharing. Thanks Mr. Sears.

Being a solo BMXer hillbilly made the magazines be like a cool score every time the post office would serve me one.
Something else about the Louisville track. Moving the first turn about 50 feet out towards them Freys Hill Road shacks would be a good move. Longer 1st n 2nd straights for more pedaling action. Of course moving the jump into the first turn and the second straight tower jump too. Could like make the first turn even steeper banked for WFO radabonzical carving speeds and passing lines ruckus!
Steve, I bet on most of the modern day tracks that you've raced on so far that you got be like grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr over not having much straightaway length to uncork some of your speed.

Joey,
Greg Dawson here. It was nice reading through this thread and hearing some names from past and viewing some pictures. I see Susie Levan at races randomly and she told me about the event you were planning this past July. Unfortunately I had vacation plans with the family so I was not able to make it. I hope to know more about the event this year and would definitely like to come. Earlier in the summer works best for me so I don't have to make back-to-back trips to Louisville. If the event works out, my dad and I will definitely come. Heck may dad would likely come even if I can't make it. Anyway, aside form the usual pictures and press clippings here are some items we could bring if needed
Trophy from the 1983 national
Trophy from the 2003Grands
I'd like to think I'm the only person having two trophies twenty years apart from Derby City BMX
Track Champion plaque for 17 experts Derby City BMX 1986
Pictures from the national at Hopkinsville (hop town)
Assorted Kentucky State Series plates
Bicycle Today that has the track my dad tried to start at the old distillers on 7th street listed as a new track
20" GHP
24" GHP
T-Shirt from the 1984 Grands
And a lot of stories
I don't really post on vintage anymore but you can always find me at bmxTRUTH.com
Please keep me posted on the event.
For the person who asked about Doss…I don’t think you are asking about me, but I went there, graduated in 1986. The only other “racer” I knew was Randy Stephenson. He now lives in Roanoke Va.
As for names
(I may have missed them on the list)
Mike Wade
Tim Ryan(?) I remember the sisters Angela and Beth. They lived in the same neighborhood as Jimmy and Susie. Went spent many days there after races cooling off in their pool
As for Shops
Jeffersonville Schwinn (still have the Jersey from when my dad started the team)
Tracks
There was a track behind a school in New Albany In. 2X4 will remember the name. They had one race a year for Harvest Homecoming. I remember the Frazier’s showing up one year looking to get some easy points but it didn’t work out for themJ
Anyways,
Again this was a good read, please keep the post updated. BTW do you keep in touch with Richie Jones? What is he up to? Man, I could never beat him.
Last thing, you probably know how to get a hold of Brian Fell but if not, contact MCS bikes. Pretty sure he is still working there.

I'm hoping you all do because, short of being confined to a wheelchair, you should all be on the track.
Just sayin'.

Greg Dawson, Did you crank the Metallica at Derby City BMX? If not, I've got you confused with another racer.
I haven't had a BMX bike since I sold my last one in 2001. My pedaling times nowadays are spent on my rigid mountain bike riding in the hills and hollers of eastern Kentucky. I like to throw down some miles for some smiles. If I get back into the BMX racing scene I know that I'd be WFO stoked. Good times with some good peoples I say.
Joey, That GT you got looks smooooooooooooooooooooth. Seen the pics on here.

Joey,
thanks for posting that picture. I remember the day I actually saw that picture for the first time. I felt like I had really done something. In reality, all I did was fill up a moto that Doug Davis was in...I was so intimidated by big names back then. I definitely didn't have the mental game to be successful back then. Today, I love getting in the gate with the big guns. Not that I can beat them, but I enjoy giving it my best.

I do still have a GT cruiser.
I am in the blue shirt. (Gate 2) This is the 31 year old cruiser class back in ‘99.

Proud of you, JS, for starting this and doing all the leg work.
Have you guys seen this movie?

I just got it a few weeks ago.
A MUST HAVE. TRUST ME.This is from the Christmas classic in Ohio, not sure on the year.

I will find some pictures & post them when I go home to Madisonville for Christmas. All the pictures are at Dad’s. Kevin & I are planning to do some motorcycle riding over the Christmas holiday.

Dad, Paul and I we talking and we raced at so many places I can't even remember some of them. I am not sure if we still have all of our number plates as we had a big box full. If I do I will snap a photo. We donated all of the trophys to Special Olympics and used them at the Madisonville track. I can't believe that we never took a picture of them as we had over 600 of them in one room at the house.
By the way, Debandi is the only guy I know to wreck twice in the same moto.

This is about the time I started riding with those Nichols' boyz.

I would sneak to the indoor races in Evansville with the Nichols because I was not permitted to race bicycles.
I actually hid the trophies at their house. I think Kevin actually "stole" some of them and told everybody that they were his.
