Yes I do take PayPal for the stands. I still need to put my current new stand on my website for sale. I could also bring you one to the grands unless you wanted one earlier. Could save you on shipping. My website is www.deansfabshop.com

I could just do a request money from Paypal for now if you wanted one before I put them on my site. I shipped one to Las Vegas last week to Conman's Dad and it cost $16.00 to ship it via UPS ground. So, whatever you wanna do bud.

Dan's Comp also sells my DFS BiStander stands in the Race section.

Thanks,
Dean

I wasn't the one who asked Dean that question. I'am well aware of the difference between Dean Howard from owensboro, and the mike howard who went to Doss, next time pay Attention negative.gif

Joey, I've sat here a good while trying to remember who that is behind you but haven't had any luck. Could it be a racer who was from western Kentucky or maybe the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area? worried_anim.gif

In the NBL Grands pic of the pros on the starting hill is Ken Aman the Blue Max racer between Stu Thomsen and Tommy Brackens?

Rod Miles' pic of Henderson brings back some memories of that flat track in the tree filled park. First place I ever saw Dan Duckworth of Dan's Competiton fame dealing BMX goods out of a van. Racers of today wouldn't know what to think of loose dirt surfaces and charging into tight turns like hungry uncaged badgers chasing a rabbit. sarcastic.gif

Nice pics Joey. I don't remember a track coming together out Highway 60 West in Owensboro. The only one I remember is Chataqua Park right in the middle of Owensboro. What year was that from?

Man I just found this thread and it's awesome.

I have lots of great memories of BMX in Kentucky. I lived in Southern Kentucky so mostly did my local racing in Hendersonville, TN and Nashville, TN but I lived for the State Series. So many cool tracks, Henderson, L'ville, Lexington (Masterson Station), Madisonville (rain cancelled to only chance I had to ride it), Owensboro (I think it was called Hawesville) and the Bowling Green track in Lampkin Park.

I recognize a few of the names but I think like 2X4, I blossomed a little late ('86 to '94).

Keep the memories coming, guys!

lampkin Park, I have been trying to think of the Name of that place, for awhile Now, that is where they moved the track after Beech Bend Park track shut down,
I remember having a great Battle in a State Qualifer or the State championship in 86 or 87 with Breckley Tipton, and A guy Named john Mains, or John Sledge, I can't really recall his last name,

Lukedogg post up some pics if you have some,

And the Owensboro Track was in Vastwood park, Near Hawsville, Even though It wasn't really in Owensboro it was called the owensboro Track,,

Dood, I wish I had some pics. Only a few from racing in TN.

I remember one time racing a State Championship at the track in Lexington (Masterson Station, I think even though I went to college there, I'm not sure of the name of the park) and noticing that weird, menacing building off in the distance. Late that night, after driving 3 hours home, I watched this late night documentarty about women's prisons and they filmed it at that federal prison! Kinda surreal.

The fast cats I rode with (not necessarily raced) were Matt Satterly (he won a National #1 I think the first year they started handing them out to Novies), Lee Hagendorn, Travis Dooley (I thought he was from TN), Mike Lausman, Chad Meyers and some others I can't remember.

I remember Jay Becht as someone I really looked up to.

I also remember Jimmy Levan rockin' the mike and pickin' up some older, but still young chickens.

Anyone remember Howard's Bike Shop in Bowling Green? They had a pretty good team for a minute.

Again, good thread.

Could that be John Hicks from Franklin, Ky? I know I used to ride with him and Randy Trout to some races BITD. They were on the scene a few years before me. Like me, they did most of their locals in TN.

Them Derby City Grands pics rule. Shows the newer folks what it was like twenty + years ago. Grands packed with people and a track that actually had BMX jumps instead of 4 stroke Kawasaki needed dirt mountains that are useless to the majority of racers. From what I've seen from recent video and pics of that track the first three straights are basically filled with jumps that are so big the majority of riders ride up the face of them, across the top and then down the backside. The jumps are just too big to where it's hard for most to jump them or it's slower to jump them. I can hear people now when seeing it for the first time:

"Where is the BMX track? This looks like an MX track." biggrin.gif

The first three straights need reworked. As it is it probably scares new people off and makes regulars get bored or disgusted easily.

First straight: make the roller bigger, step up style first jump looks fine, make the table a doable by most double with a nice long backside that smoothly blends into turn one

Second straight: make the roller bigger, shorten the first step up in length and make the landing side taller so one is actually jumping upwards and landing on a nice sloping backside, shorten the second step in length and make its transition into the second turn pavement landing better

Third straight: take the table and make it a roller/table by shortening the length of the table and putting a roller before it, first double needs to be made into a doable by most step up where you actually jump upwards onto the landing side and have a nice long backside, second double needs to be made to where it's doable by most and do so by making it shorter in length and height with a long backside

Rest of the track looks fine.

Them Grands pics show a track configuration where it was so fast to race on and the jumps weren't Joey Chitwood Stunt Show obstacles like today. Well, even back then they were big obstacles to my hillbilly self that just ramped my BMX onto flat ground over here in the hills regularly. biggrin.gif

Hey todd good analogy on the kawasaki comment .
The second jump is stupid.
The table coming out of the 1st turn is stupid ,these both are ride up across and down jumps [allthough i did jump the second one its still stupid]
The step into the second turn is hairy i jumped it some a month before the grands [the week before they stretched it a foot or 2 and made the launch taller=i didnt even try it at the grands]
evansvills step in thier second turn was awesome it popped you right over they need one like that .
OR just dont do anything with it the way it is its hard enough now [dont screw with it next year took me long enough to get it right.
The 3rd straight is very crowded and virtually no room to pass[the 1st straight and second is really the only places to pass]
I like the 3rd straight but it makes it virtually race over at the second turn unless you screw up.I like to pedal and there isnt no pedalling that 3rd straight anywhere at all.
The last straight was so beat down in 1 line in the middle there was no passing there ,and the way it turns theres no outside line .The finish/straight should be toward the gate or make the turn at the last turn to straighten the last straight.
But im a nobody ,have raced the grands 8 times/years though .
