I have a pair of white Skyway Tuff IIs (genuine, but they're ones that were built more recently), and some parts of them are like turning a light orange.

Does anyone know what causes this discoloration, and how it can be removed?

Thanks in advance!

Mr. Stereolab,
Is this your one post for the year? Are you doing another build or are those Tuffs on your C-Dub?

Drop me a line.

if you search the site i did come across a thread on dyeing faded mags and bring new life to em. sounded like they had good results and i guess that is the only thing i know of.

Heheh, yup, they're the ones on my CW. Saw the discoloration and was mortified. I'VE NEVER EVEN TAKEN THAT BIKE OUTSIDE

Rob,
Did you buy these from Coloredtuffs.com (PlanetBMX.com) by any chance? If so, contact Ed Ferri and see if he can do something for ya (link on the right).

I know I've read something around here before about cleaning up Tuffs (something to do with sticking them in the dish washer). I'll poke around and see if I can find something.

Several options, the color is a dye embedded thru the plastic so you can sand it off and it will turn the original color, usually skotch brite is enough, if they are white you can soak them in bleach, if they are colored you can soak them in dye......google it as this is the readers digest version. If you sand them, once you do, soak them in wd40 by spraying them down and letting it soak in, then they will look good as new.

Another option is to stick them in the dishwasher like I mentioned earlier. You may need to do it a few times. When its done and dry, but still warm, shoot it with some WD-40. DISCLAIMER: I've done this personally with a black nylon Redline seat and it came out great, but I'm not sure how well it will work with yellowed WHITE Tuffs.

Not sure if the hot dishwasher will warp the wheels either, but I think others have done it. If they do go a little out of true, the freezer is supposed to be the way to get them back to straight. Again, I haven't done this personally.
