I know there has been some recent success recovering stolen bikes through the VBMX network, hoping we'll have the same result with this Cook Bros. Thanks for your help in advance!

It looks like the thieves are out and scooping up some sweet bikes.

I could never take a reward for returning a stolen bike to its proper owner!
gptrash
Did they all come from one guys place? Like a break in or were they boosted from the street? Just wondering?

Man, that seriously stinks.

I had a motomag stolen from the garage about a year ago. They didn't get too far thanks to the flat tires. They ditched it a few houses down. I hope you have the same luck.

I'll keep a look out up here, as I'm sure gptrash will too.

It turns out that the other bikes listed above are his as well. Eric is not a member here (yet) but should be checking in soon to give some more details. Again, thanks for the help!

Hey all,

I just joined last night after HH clueing me in and being so generous to post up on his account about my stuff.

So here's the deal:
We're renting a house while ours is remodeled. The bikes went 1/2 to the rent house, 1/2 to the studio.
The studio suffered the break-in and we lost computers and power tools, as well as the bikes. Where we are, it's most likely going to support a drug habit, rather than feed some bicycle fetish. Otherwise, all of US ohmy.gif would be the suspects, rather than the posse.

I have serial #'s for the OM, Floval, and Franklin Roadie, but not the others.

If anyone wants pictures or build details or serial #'s, let me know.

Also, any opinions on recovery strategies are welcome, i.e. Go to Pawnshops, wait to go to pawnshops, put out signs, etc. Of course the cops already have everything we could give them.

This is all in Austin, TX

I would absolutely go to pawn shops right away. I woud also post pictures and details at local bike shops and anyplace where kids get together to ride bikes (Ramp Parks).

Some of these criminals are so stupid that if you post a WANTED ad for old bikes on craigslist someone might contact you vs. Stolen ads.... Someone with a drug habit needs to unlad quickly and usually don't travel too far form home.

I used to live in a two family flat and some druggie crawled in a window in the flat below and stole anything they could find while the other guy was sleeping. Then out to the garage and stole more. All my tools and other items were stolen and my motorcycle was in the alley about 5 houses down. I guess a little too heavy to get out. Anyway, the poice finally caught up with the crackhead. They estimated close to a $10,000 a week coke habit. I think that is a high (no pun intendend) but he still had a lot of the items.

My best firned is a cop and the cops usually know where someone with a serious habit would be hanging around to score. Talk to them and see if they will give you some information. Then post ads around there about your stolen stuff with rewards! They will turn up if you get to the right spots! Money ALWAYS solves crimes, especially with drug addict theives. They will sell their mom for a hit!

Sorry to hear about the bikes and welcome. Wish for you it was under different circumstances. Everyone here will keep their eyes peeled and will post here if they are spotted!!!

Eric,

Tomorrow is Frankenbike (www.frankenbike.org) down at Lovejoys between 6th and 7th, this would be a good place to look and put out the word to the local bike community. I was planning on heading down there around 2 PM to catch Hit By A Car, I'll keep my eyes peeled as well.

Henry and Eric...
My eyes are peeled as I cruze the streets of Austin. If I catch them, they won't be available for questioning...
