I have an old school SE scooter that I am in the process of building for my significant other. Unfortunately, the headset is giving me trouble. I took the old one out thinking it would be easy to replace but to my dismay, has not been the case.

The Good: The forks are the basic 1" threaded. The 1" threaded headset I bought threads right on with no hassles.

The Bad: The frame appears to be a 1 1/8" and other than a Chris King conversion (I don't want to double the price for the scooter), I can't find anything out there that would fit.

Any suggestions? This will probably be one of those stupid questions that could've been answered by myself with relative ease on my part but alas, I have had no such luck.

Again, measurements are as follows...

Crown race I.D. 25.4mm or 1 inch.
Head tube I.D. 28.575mm or 1 1/8 inch.

Thanks in advance.

Travis,
Here's your hook up, Heather @ Performance Bike Parts. Her & Ian are the owners & are the local BMX vendors out at the track. She's also the main gopher at Staats in Sandy. Not only can she wrench on anything with 2-wheels, she's considered OS around here now as she's been racing since 91'ish. Call her at this number, 842-3885 & tell her I sent you.

Thanks Bruce.

Are you accidently using a regular road bike / mini BMX size 1" headset? They are way smaller than an old school style BMX 1" headset. An old school bmx's 1" frame headtube is actually way closer to a threadless 1 1/8" headtube than a regular road/mini 1" headtube. If your scooter is early 90's or before this would have to be the case... if not, and the scooter's headtube is really 1 1/8", buy these and run a regular road bike/ mini BMX 1" headset into it and it will look good, be cheap, be strong enough and work beutifully.

Hope I solved you problems bro.

I was thinking the same thing. Headtube/set spacers would probably do the trick. Thanks for the info Spin.
