Maybe it's as simple as copyright infringement. If it was your property, wouldn't you want to get what's rightfully yours? Isn't there some kind of strike going on right now regarding much the same issues? Somewhere in Hollywood? New York even. Hmmmm.....it's funny how so many people can jump to conclusions and are just ready to spread discontent so quickly. Has anyone directly asked Oz? Does anyone wonder why it was his Lawyer calling? Don't lawyers handle theses kinds of things?
Oz is a great guy, I don't think he is "hurting for $$" or is doing anything different than any artist has done before him (yes, photography IS an Artform). Don't musicians have lawyers go after what is rightfully (by LAW, not personal opinion) theirs?
You know, I bet if we ask Bill, he probably got a very professional and cordial request from Oz's lawyer(s), just as if you were witness to a crime, you would be subpoena'd by someone other than the parties involved.
Also, why is this such a big deal to everyone? Someone asked for some help in locating something and all of the sudden, everyone is bashing Oz.
Like big E said...."Let's not try to read too much into this".

Drama begets drama. Oz being a controversial figure here as a result of the previous drama. Therefore, any threads like this one (esp. with the LEGAL twist) are fodder for additional drama.

in the early '90s i turned our Haro and DB reps on to some t-shirts at Kmart that featured their logos/images used in a semi-generic manner. i don't know the outcome, but i do know their guys went after the shirt maker. this is probably a similar issue.

After reading this thread it becomes obvious to me that most (not all) but most of the opinions are based on not really knowing the facts..Here is the deal, if you want to be upset or pissed or negative towards someone for "Taking his toys and leaving" direct that towards me, not Oz..Oz is not the one that started BMX Action Online, I am.. Oz hangs out and writes articles and posts but he is not the owner of the site I am. Lot's of negativity in this thread, kind of reminds me of why I started BMXAO to begin with.
Do we have 300 members yet? LOL we have over 500 and it's only been 8 months, let's see how many members we have 5 years from now...It will be a different story I can assure you..
Having said all of the above I am going to say this..If your hatin on Oz you obviously have no clue what is going on and do not know your BMX history. Being so quick to throw him under the bus because he no longer comes here is rediculous. Oz's attorney made a request to Bill Curtain and Bill makes it public for the drama factor..Good call Bill, way to handle the situation..VBMX has become DramaBMX.com enjoy yourselves..What a joke!

And of course there's people who love drama.
Like Hill said, hating on Oz does not lead to anything, but if it feels better to bash on people, knock yourselves out. If your past heroes don't meet your childhood expectations, that is your own problem. You put them up there in your mind and apparently forgot that they are human beings just like we are with long bonds, friendships and loyalties.
When the big mess with one of the sponsors of this site happened, I respected to no end the loyalty shown by the site owners. Regardless of the bashing and criticism that they received, they stood by their friend. This is no different.
Oz and Hill go way back 30 something years. I certainly hope that some of you would react the same if one of your friends was being bashed by unknowing people. I have a longer fuse than Hill, but I was getting pretty tired of the pointless emotion based opinions and speculating that have gone on since the initial post.
I'm here for the bikes and the friends we made and still make by this common bond--but if drama serves your purpose, carry on.

I didn't think the stuff said was that bad. Seemed to turn into a bunch of jokes to me. I appreciate Hill standing up for Oz nothing wrong with that. It did take a nasty turn with a shot at Bill in the end. Bill can't contact the thousands of members individually so he put up a post for some info. If there were 500 or so members he might be able to handle that.
"If your past heroes don't meet your childhood expectations, that is your own problem"
I think it was our adult expectations that were not met. The whole take my stuff and leave was childish in my mind. As far as heroes and hero worship Reilly you are as guilty, if not more, than the rest of us. The only difference is, you got to know these guys on a personal level so you have more invested when the mud is slung. They are just public figures to the rest of us so it makes them easy targets. Afterall, we are human too and we know humanity likes to see the mighty fall.

You drama queens! Jeez. 4 pages in a day! That hardly leaves time for you to watch Oprah.
This was posted to find who was the orignal poster of the diaper drama. It was me and I spoke with the "Lawyer". From my perspective, it was Bob's photo. A graphic designer employed by an international company used an image that had to have been knowingly taken from a magazine. I'm no lawyer, but it would seem permission should have been requested. I image they used the image as stock photos or hiring a photographer would have added time and or cost. It's digital world and IP is IP.
BTW - I not only have bank, I have two banks.

Greg,
You just cannot stay away from the VBMX drama, huh? Me neither. Something about it always draws me back. I think it is all the friends I have made here.
Why doesn’t Bob post here anymore? Does he only post on your website? I would love to hear from him here.
I am a little bit familiar with cease and desist; it has been quite some time since the diaper thread in question was posted. I hope the amount of time since Bob was made aware of the infringement is not an issue...
If you would, please tell Bob happy birthday for me. *early*

Holly cow this went south. Ted's honey pot post still cracks me up it's really the only reason I posted, it deserved some cudos. That and I posed a ponder of copywright infringment kinda a "what if" about the term/name Bicycle Moto Cross. but no one wanted to talk about that.
Dayride, Reilley1 knew alot of the people that are now the who's who of OS BMX guys long before this site ever existed. He isn't guilty of any hero worship in my book.
I don't have anything against OZ or Greg they both made and still make contributions to the sport and hobbie, but the shot at Bill was a bit bad form. Bill needed some info right away he couldn't find through the archives, so he put it out here because he knew someone would remember and VIOLA! Someone did, just another case of VBMX bros helpin bros. If a lawyer called me askin a bunch of questions and talking litigation I'd be sweatin a little and trying to get those answers any way I needed to as well. It just so happened that the mention of the parties involved invoked the rehash of some bad feelings. I don't really know what happened back then and do not desire to know now. Greg if you feel the need to reprimand the posters you feel were taking shots at OZ, fine, I stick by my friends too, but as I see it Bill was trying to get answers as fast as he could. I consider Bill a friend and I'll stand by him as well.
I venture over to the BMXA site from time to time....and to OS......and to the museum. I spend most of my time here because one, it's the first one I found when I got the bug, two, I find it easier to navigate, and three I like to take shot's at Elvis

I for one could care less how many members any of the sites have. It's not the quantity it's the quality. Do you think a meet as large as Rockford could have been pulled off and continue to be pulled off without the dedication of some quality people.
