Hey guys

my name is Garth im from Australia and i have a oversized chrome mongoose frame thats been in my gf's shed since i have lived with her. it was her little bro's but he painted it with black spray paint and it covered all stickers. He now has a new bike so i get the old one to fix up. only problem is i dont know what it is and what its worth, or whether i bother fixing it. it come with chrome 3 piece cranks, threadless headstem, a nice light aluminium seat post. not sure of rims as i think they are stuffed. brakes were fairly standard. it had chrome hangers but they were stuffed too.

so here is a few pics ive taken so if anyone can help me please do

any info is greatly appreciated

cheers Garth

Motor City Mongoose
Party on Garth! (sorry, couldn't help myself)

It looks to be anywhere from `99 to about `04ish. Not really collectible, but you could put it together to ride around with the GF's little bro.

hey thanks for that, i didnt think it was vintage but a guy on ebay mentioned this site for help with mongoose bikes

do you know what type of mongoose it is, coz a few ppl said supergoose

but i dont know

if i have the dollars ill be sandblasting the frame forks and cranks and most likely powdercoat them white and then add a few black parts here and there. i love the whole white and black theme. i have a white car with black parts smile.gif

is there anyone else who has this style frame or any one else with pics

should i be posting in a different section maybe?

thanks for the help so far

Use a chemical stripper, you shouldn't sandblast aluminum. (looks aluminum from here, at least...) If it is, it would look cool polished.

its not aluminium, its was a chrome frame that was rusty then painted with a can of spray paint. then ive sanded it back and thats as far as ive gotten with it. coz its chrome i need to sandblast or use stuff called penetrol on it so that paint will stick to it. im not a fan of chrome at all. looks tacky and cheap. id rather powdercoat it or spray paint it. im about to go to a bike shop to have a look at some new bikes that are in my budget. but if nothing tickles my fancy ill be slowly working on this one. i love the style of this frame

went to hadleys 2day and found a GT zone i liked for $349 3 piece cranks nice rims and all the rest

only reason im after a bmx is for fun and fitness not for freestyle or jumps

atm i cant afford to buy straight up so i guess ill be working on the goose for now

neways does anyone know how to prep chrome parts for painting

i plan on doin the frame and forks (red), cranks, seat post and handlebars (white)

most of the other stuff ill buy new ie headstem, headset, rims, bottom bracket

i got brakes, seat, and chainring for nothing

any help is great
