2Fresh has been my friend since the late eighties. We used to ride a lot together. I think it's really great that his Ozone was voted as number one since he really deserves it. I liked the Haro Master a lot as well. Anyways congratulations Timo!

WORD.
2FRESH
This is overwhelming. I'm lost of words really..

I want to send out warm Thank You's to everybody who voted for the Oz and also for those who atleast took the time to check the photos. I know the Ozone's been out here on display many times before so i wasn't sure how people would react this time. Like, are they waiting something completely new, rare, nos or what. Bottom line for me is, i don't have the kind of money/resources to make a new build every other month so i decided to just stick with the ones i truly believed in and liked the best personally and see where that goes. Obviously it worked and i'm both surprised and grateful of it.

I'm terrible at writing "speeches" without sounding sentimental or silly so i'll just try keep this simple if i can. First of all, i am AMAZED that with the 500 USD prize money thrown in there was only so few submissions?! What was up with that? Atleast I was expecting the FS BOTY to be flooded with variety of cool entries. 500 IS a lot of money for me and well worth putting some effort into the entries. "Money is forever and glory is only temporary".. uhm ..or was it the other way around? LOL

Some of my personal faves (in no particular order) were Bedlams ProStyler for the candy colours and for a bike you don't see that often and for the colour balance and effort with the photos. Robertos unbelievable Master restoration was sick, i mean unbelievable effort and PHOTOS!! Those photos alone are worth 500 bucks! Brian P's black Styler was badass! and i loved the details! Supra DTs blue Sport was one of the cleanest i've seen. Totally diggin the crystal clear blue and white. Donvader's green/orange TS stood out from the TS crowd in a good way, cause i always enjoy seeing custom/unusual, non-stock colours and part combinations. Stephens GT can't get any shinier from that! And the fact it was rechromed from bare frame and the 88 decals makes it special. Man, every bike entered was amazing!

Mikko, thank you bro. We've had our highs and lows since we met in late 80's but Mike has always stayed in my heart and i'm happy to see him on a bike again. Those early days we spent riding around Helsinki, both on our italian Carraros, Mike had the freestyle model and i was sporting the BMXer Carraro. Those were some of the best times ever. I'm sure you also remember how i started more less constantly talk/dream about getting an Ozone one day in early 90's. Crazy it took me some 14 years. Mike was also the one who sent me the white '85 Street Beat i'm still riding today! And i certainly remember the day of excitement when you got your 1990 black-chrome bashguard Haro Master. The best times.

Mikko P, the "finnish connexion" is magic, it's faster than teh internets. Kiitos man smile.gif
Raul, Pat, Ditchweed, Donvader, OS BOB-O, Stephen thanks so much for the kind words guys.
Caleb, thank you.

Here something i created during this competition for fun.
The agony of waiting for votes and results..

..and the excitement of getting the good news. The results WERE announced on the radio worldwide weren't they, right? RIGHT?

No, they aren't real magazine articles.

Who knows what will be up next year.. laugh.gif
Again, thank you everyone. I appreciate it.

-Timo

..You bet. I am always serious. cool.gif
Kyösti is my main man, in fact he builds all my bikes i just hand out tools and lube cables occasionally and take all the credit for his work. Thanks so much Josh.

1niceharo, lol dude! I was expecting someone to come up with that idea eventually. Send me your paypal and we'll split it for the two of us, but don't tell anyone..
Dani, thanks so much. biggrin.gif They're still running the news extra on TV. Totally messes up our daily soap operas.

Thanks everyone.

Timo, Congrats!

Great bike, I too have always loved the Ozone.

Funny thing is the one that was on ebay a couple of months ago was only about 3 miles from my house.... for years...

Doh!

Hope whoever got it does it right.

That bike was so cool because to all us riders it represented progression.

Many of the best underground riders were flowed frames by Ozone, and were seen tearing it up in contests all over the country.

Danny Meng, and Chris Young come to mind right off.

Last I spoke to Danny he still had a couple of his Ozone's (actually they are in a garage not far from where I am typing this message...) So maybe one day I will actually get to ride one again.

But, Timo, the way you set yours up is what makes it so cool. The Gold peregrines, just set it off. Its just a riders bike, and I am sure it is totally dialed in. Looking at it, you know that you could bust out a smith decade without any fear of anything slipping.

In conclusion, I went back through my archives and picked up a couple of Ozone pics from bitd.

Chris Young, at woodward during filming of Dorking 4 1/2.

Just in case you didn't know, they were great ramp bikes too. 360 over the spine

coasting stick b

and one of my favorite pictures I've ever taken, Decade drop in

2FRESH
Thanks so much Glenn. Yeah, i'm aware the Ozone was somewhat common frame in both ramps and street. You know i always watched every tiny image in the magazines to see if there's an ozone somewhere in them, lol! Leo Chen comes to mind first of the ramp riders, and ofcourse Craig Grasso & Campbell in the street dept + many others. Those pics are very cool Glenn, thanks for sharing.
Like i've told many times before, one of my main source of inspiration in my Ozone was Pete Brandt's and Eric Emerson's bikes cause i used to look up those guys and their flatland skills and ofcourse, their bikes. They were packed with custom stuff. I could stare some of the images in the magazines forever. There was always new stuff to see and think about. The next week i would build some of the customizations i saw myself and try them out how they work. Some of those images helped me alot in understadning how everything in a bike works and how you stretch the tech into your personal taste.

Speaking of, this has got to be my all-time favorite image of Emerson and his full on tricked out Ozone M1. This was form and shape i was always looking for in my bikes. Dialed in and custom.

And this has got to be the most read article in my magazines. Anarchic adjustments by Brandt & Emerson.

I'm curious, is the voting still on?? Because last time i checked (this morning) there was 100 votes and now the count has increased to 101. LOL! So, there a prize for second and third place aswell? smile.gif

hi timo, congrats, you deserve it!about that go article, that remains to this day one of my eternal faves, seems like we were in the same channel back then you wouldnt want to know how much stuff I damged trying to dub these things!the one that comes to mind was a gt 1990 dk lookalike stem I had, which I took out the shaft and inverted it,to disastrous results, seems that the alloy neck lost rigidity and snapped during a back packer(?),good thing, had it been during a cliff hanger or something,I would have wrecked!anyway, that was the spirit that motivated me to go out and bust long hours of sundrenched fun, even if only 5 persons in the whole island were into it at that point(refer to ride on'"bmx is dead"intro),the feeling of knowing that 2000 miles from you a head is thinking the same thoughts made me just push myself, thanks to my trusty walkman, and go! or freestylin before that!props to you timo, your bikes are meant to be ridden, and in fact are being ridden!

Great thread. Should be pinned for all eternity.

Seriously. Does anybody even moderate this forum??????????

Didn't think so.

Congrats!! 2fresh.. Very nice Ozone..

It's nice to see that Ozone still has some fans, I haven't seen one since leaving the company as team manager back in mid '88. I worked for them only for about a year and helped refine the design of the Method Air model, I thought it was a good bike back then maybe a little on the heavy side but very ridable.
Jeff Cotter, Derek Orie, Greg Grasso, Tony Peterson and I think Pete Brandt rode for me at that time..

Anyway, nice bike..

All of the bikes were gorgeous but oh how I wanted an Ozone when I was a kid. My Grasso search led me to this thread....I cannot express how much I am enjoying checking out this forum. Stoked to put up pics of my new bike after it's done being built this week!! biggrin.gif

Congrats to 2Fresh!

Below are some pics of my Redline RL-20II. I built this bike up as a tribute to my childhood RL-20II (which was stolen in 1987). I found the crank arms in my old toolbox at my parents' house and had them re-powdered; all of the other parts came from ebay and vbmx. I ride it as much as I can, re-learning the old tricks.

Here is the parts list:
-- 1985 Redline RL-20II frame and fork (refinished with 1986 painted bottom bracket)
-- Redline Forklifter Freestyle handlebars and stem
-- ODI Mushroom II grips
-- Sturmey-Archer drum brake hubs laced into Z-Rims with Dia-Compe brake levers and ACS Rotor
-- Redline 401 Flight cranks with Redline Techmatic bottom bracket and Redline Flight chainwheel
-- Shimano SX pedals
-- GT seatpost
-- Viscount Dominator seat
-- Hutch seatpost clamp
-- Tioga Comp Stadium tires

The topic is still pinned, why?

I think we just need to tell a mod to un-pin it. I guess they never look much in Freestyle.
