What are these forks?

They're shaped like DB, have a diff cutout in the dropouts, yet they still have the baseball stamp in the serial number.
Includes a 'made in japan' sticker on the steerer tube and what appears to be the remaining goo from the kozumi sticker (as per DB forks).

Thanx.

They were probably made by KOIZUMI (and if the numbering is the same around 1980) but they aren't Diamond Back forks. They were very distinctive and very adamant about having that hole cut out in the drop-outs. At least they are of good quality though.

They are definately Koizumi, 1980 and were found on the Raleigh Pro Burner, also manufactured by Koizumi.

Thanx for the info guys, yep, they have that nice cro-mo 'ring' when you flick 'em...and light too, which made me think they were somewhere more 'upper' than 'lower' class ;-)

Thanx again.

I guess i should ask if anyone needs them, i don't ;-)

a perfect moment to suggest a "pay it forward forum" like the other sites have.

great way to share the wealth and keep people giving to the cause of building cool old bikes.

Look the pictures of Diamond Back F1 forks, with stickers KOIZUMI and engraved TANGE.

In talking with some of the Japanese engineers at work, they mentioned that "Tange" may have made the Chromoly tubing and Koizumi did the fabrication, Sandy Finkelman also mentioned something to this effect, that "Tange" made Chromoly tubing.

If I remember correctly, the older DB forks that were on a 1979, and two 1980 DB's that I had with dual drop-outs didn't have the "Tange" stamp on them. These looked exactly (save for the diamond cut outs) as the one's pictured above.

Thank you for that clarification. It's very interesting.

TANGE did the fabrication also of certain FRAME for example the LAZERLITE KUWAHARA frame ?.

I don't know about fabrication, but it could have been that Kuwahara used TANGE chromoly tubing.

from what i've been able to piece together from many years in the biz, i don't think Tange did any sort of production welding fab-work. i was told that even the early '90s "tange big fork" branded/marketed MTB fork was sub'ed out.

I have some dual dropsouts 1980 on my Large Pro, and also some other Koizumi forks dated 1979 which were used for a later DB model the 'Works' Pro-Star. I'll check them both out.

It's also interesting to note that Raleigh sold a model 'Aero Pro' which came in two frame formats, one stamped 'Tange', the other 'Koizumi' and both have very small differences.
