Is there any difference in the wheel itself between a freewheel Tuff Wheel and a coaster brake Tuff Wheel? I want to put a set of coaster brake equipped Tuffs on my daughter's bike and can't find a stock set. I was thinking I could buy a set of readily available freewheel Tuffs, take the rear one apart and put the guts from a junker coaster brake wheel into the Tuff. Will this work? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Kieth, i believe that the freewheel version and the coaster version is different, but i could be mistaken. Skyway makes a few different versions of the mag wheels. Ed from coloredtuffs.com is the forgoing expert on skyway mags. you can reach him on here or email him through www.coloredtuffs.com or www.planetbmx.com.

if they are the older style with a riveted-in hub, yes you can change out the whole hub (not just the internals). getting your hands on a rivet-style coaster hub will be the hard part. best bet is find a beater coaster wheel on the cheap and steal the hub out of it.

if the wheel has a "molded-in" style hub you're out of luck. no changing those, at all.

Hey Keith, Skways are still available with a coaster brake, in black or white. Check with Ed at Colored Tuffs. His link is over on the right >.
