Well i dont know how it started but i have decided to restore my old BMX. My mum dumped it on my doorstep a few months ago when they cleared out the garage and it has been calling out to me every time i go into the garage. Well i finally gave in to the calling and i am in the process of stripping it down so i can work out what is scrap and what is worth keeping. The spec is as follows (From memory)
all are 1984 ish
dp Firebird Freestyler Limited Edition GL Plus. Now then, this is what i remember it being when i won it in a competition in BMX Action Bike i think, (either that or BMX bi-weekly). If Anyone anywhere has any info on the correct name or any photos or other versions out there then i would love to hear from you. I know it is deffo genuine and real as i have had it from new.
Skyway Tuff 2 wheel!! The rear wheel was knicked which is why it got put in the garage in the first place. The front has an aluminium hub spyder which i cant see on any of the NOS or new skyways? Dont know why mine where like that but they were. They are again genuine as i saved up all my pocket money for them! Would love to find a rear if anyone has one in WHITE
Panarcer freestyle tyres (White) Perrished beyond use. Can you still get these? If so where?
MX Levers, and dia-comp calipers with thumb turn adjusters.
Diamond back pro bars
Redline Fork Lifter Stem with the Hole in the middle.
Not got to the crank yet
As i am starting to do this and looking for parts on ebay i notice that old skool BMX Bikes seem to be fetching good money. Just out of interest is this lot worth anything? I would not sell it as it was a big part of my life when i had it but it would be nice to know what i am spending on it isnt wasting money.
Anyway hope somone can help me.
PS. Has anyone heard of radbmx.com? saw some links to pictures of firebirds on here so been trying to register there and can't. the register button does'nt work?
