I traded off my 87 Haro Sport and picked up a Redline John Purse cruiser, just to kick around with the kids. I see alot of older guys (me too) racing the cruisers, I see alot of dirt jumpers and even a few guys riding street and ramp but.....is anyone riding flatland on a cruiser? Ive searched here and on youtube, but I saw nothing in the flatland area.
King of Pipeline
I thought about that myself.. It's just not something to do..I'm not sure why I was thinking about adapting mine into a flatland bike,, in a way.. But on four pegs and a front brake.. and trying some tricks.. why not.. it would work right??
D
Mark Mundt from TN rides flatland (or at least rode the last time I saw him, which was some time ago) a custom made Standard Shaman 24". It's a really nice bike. Mark is very tall, like 6' 6" or 6' 7", so the bike fits him perfectly, but when I tried scuffing tricks it made me feel like I was a hamster in wheel. Cool idea though.
King of Pipeline
I think i'd try just even a front brake. If I could do some front wheel hops, for some G turns, I would be stoked.... I think i'm going to have to try that next year for sure.. It would make riding the cruiser more fun for sure..
Nightsblood
This could be the beginning of something beautiful. First, front brakes...then, AXLE PEGS! Im with ya, first of the year, its on!

Oh yeah, gonna need a rotor too.
Elvis
One of the magazines a few years ago ran pictures of some flatland jam and there was a guy on a cruiser, a tall guy, may have been who D is talking about.
King of Pipeline
Not sure if I woudl get a rotor.. I'm fine with the straight back cable...even a straight front cable... I may have to look into this.. See if pegs would fit on my free agent cruiser..

Check out the mtb street scene. there are a lot of guys doing street type riding on 26" mtb's. i just finished a single speed street/jumper bike to ride at the local indoor ramp park, it definitely has a bigger feel, but it can be thrown around a bit. go for it!!

This isn't really flatland riding but similar. It's cool to see what people in other parts of the world are doing on bikes. Maybe you've seen it before.

I've seen vids of guys doing massive urban assault and dirt jumping on 24's. It's like
a cult. Can't remember all the details, but I think they even referred to them as
UAV's (urban assault vehicles) They were ripping street, ramps, everything.

Doesn't seem to matter how tall you are. You know, once you get the feel of
throwing something full-on, you got it.

Plus, there's the old saying, 'if you can't wheelie a 24, you can't wheelie'.
Goes the same for the front end, they front-wheel-hop like a dream.

All that said, I still prefer 20's. Just adding some input.
upsetbmx
i dig it. they're my old tricks (from the 90's!!) but it feels stable and smooth. i'm 6'1".

I was trying to get this Haro Nyquist Backtrails X24 off ebay since it was 20 minutes from where I live and could have saved the shipping costs but I jacked around and missed the end of the auction. sad.gif

Here is a sequence of me at the Buds BMX reunion. A little fakie action with a 540 roll back. It's on an S&M RV cruiser.

akcuda was doing tailwhips on a Floval Flyer on one of the Jersey City rides, that was awesome.
Nightsblood
Wow, I hadnt visited here since the holiday started but, those are awesome videos. I had kinda talked myself into picking up a 20"er but with this, I think Im gonna set up my Redline 24 and give that a shot.

Im a born again flatlander......and now, with better health insurance!

$80!?!?!?

i'm gonna have to start prowling ebay a little more often. looked like a decent bike.....a lot of fun for a low entry price!

i've seen a few guys lately with 24's and they look super fun.

for flatland on my general lee 24" cruiser, i found that running my 7.25" standard rick moliterno 'lil deuce' bars with stem flipped over (therefore about 6.75" rise bars) was a lot better than running stock DK cruiser bars, which i think are about 4" or 5" tall. it is soooo comfortable.

i recommend it for any of you old school flatlanders and you don't want to ride the TINY bikes that flatlanders these days are riding. you get a flatland cruiser setup and you'll be swinging some huge flail boomerangs. it's just a fun ride.
Hudson
Wow...that backtrail was a steal. I sold 2 of those about 4 months ago for 225 each...they were pretty mint...but still 80 bucks...i'd have bought it again...
Nightsblood
My brothers got one of the Backtrails, and its set up for flatland. Man, that bikes super heavy.
Haro#7
WOW !! what a cool thread. Funny how this same exact subject entered my brain almost 2 years ago. I was just getting back into BMX and being a flatlnder from back in the day I wanted to dabble with it again, but all the flatland bikes are way to small. So I thought of a 24" freestyle bike. Thats where my project began. Well to make this story shorter I bought one of those 24" Haro Nyquist bike y'all have been taking about. " AND YES THEY ARE HEAVYYY " It turned out looking more like a early Mike Dominguez Haro bike, but I didn't care. It's fun to ride and a real eye catcher.

Before and after pics , enjoy.

Dude, YOU SUCK SO BAD! THat is the Coolest Friggin Thing I Have Ever Seen! I cant describe the smile I got after seeing that conversion. As if I didnt have enough stuff to save money for....now this!

Cruiser bug bit me hard about a year or 2 ago. Most 24" bikes are affordable and set up well as stock bikes. I have Mirraco 20forty (came w/factory detangler paid $300 and change) that started me riding cruisers, then bought a Shadow Conspiracy invisible man from a member, (thanks again agentheinz! The IM and the Standard STA purchased from Ripper_Rudnick are my fave rides!) a Volume Sledgehammer (26" bike and I just do not feel comfy on it? Pd $350 used) and am considering a Free Agent Devil24. (they come w/factory rotor/pegs and can be had for $360!)

None of these bikes have front brakes but are easier for me to trick on than my 20" rides. I was 325# ohmy.gif when I started riding again and just wasn't in any shape to ride a 20" bike. I have not changed diet or beer habits and don't really ride that much but now weigh 288#. I have nothing besides the 24" bicycles to credit for the weight loss. Seems to a lot more bike companies putting out 24" dirt jump rides too!
King of Pipeline
I was hoping to hit the skatepark tomorrow.. I could post some pics.. if anybody wants to see an old man riding... Ha..
King of Pipeline
I got the cruiser out last night..

That vid is sweet! With the balance those guys have flatland can be done with 24s. I don't know why you would want to, though.

a bunch of those brazilian kids are regular stock cheap mountain bikes. rad... imagine if they could get hooked up with some good bikes.

remember that Hoffman video (maybe it was Until Monkeys Fly ?) where he did the stadium show in brazil. it looked like a 20,000 crowd for a rock concert. nuts!!

So where did you get the HARO FREESTYLER frame decals ?

Were they originals or replicas ?

Ever dealt with these guys ?

I remember when I first started I was riding flatland on a Norco ladies beach cruiser. That was about 40 pounds too much. Sheshh!

i've been watching the forums around the net and it seems a little odd to the world that there are some 24, 25 26 inch flatlanders out there, but I think it's rad!!! So, get out there and ride your bike and bust a couple tricks!! wink.gif

Yeah, I've been riding for a couple of years now, here's last years project [version 5 -2007] on my perspective on 26" flatland.

You can see all of my album (including KOG 2007) at:

I hope to see some good riders this year. I'll keep you guys up to date on a new website I'm working on.

Hey guys! I actually just baught this bike from rusty8857. When I saw the link in this thread I contacted the winner of this auction "rusty8857" within this thread. When you click on the link, it is an active eBay link! LOL! I simply asked him if he remembers buying that item # on that date, if he still had the bike and if so, would he consider selling it. I never thought in a million years I would hear back from him! The next day he replied and said he still had the bike!!!!! He put two new tubes in it and had never ridden it, it was just laying around his shop. Then he asked me how much would I offer him? I shot him a price and BAM! it was done. It arrived this weekend! Same exact bike! I have to give a shout out to Madcowboy for posting the link in the thread!!!!! I feel like I owe him some sort of a finders fee or something ! LOL :-)
Any way, I thought since I actually own a part of this thread I would share it with you!!! I'll post pics later to validate my claim.

This is a little different that flatland on a cruiser but it's pretty cool to watch
Spank
Oh man. Haro#7. That's almost the exact project I'm working on! Looks like I may need to choose a different
color to go with now. Nice job, man. That's unreal.

I just picked up a Haro Nyquist Backtrail 24 and stripped the frame and fork today. I thought maybe
the retro cruiser would be a good place to start a build I haven't seen before. Till today.

If anyone feels like dropping any suggestions for my retro cruiser build lemme know. I'm open to ideas.

Man that is one badass looking ride. Nice work.

had a blast a local comp/jam yesterday. entered on my cruiser. (first two tricks in the vid... thanks mark!). i gotta catch up with the new schoolers and learn some new sh*t tho!

there are some rad locals here. i'm psyched to see the flatland scene doing so well. thanks a ton to Mark D and bmxfreestyler.com for that !

wow I knew this would catch on..Too bad I thought I'd be the first to ride flatland on a cruiser. I got one this spring and added a front brake and was doing rockwalks and such on it and thought of adding pegs. Unfortunately my cruiser and I got swept away in a flash flood and the thing is at the bottom of a lake now!!
rolleyes.gif
I cant see any reason it cant be done on a 24 or 26 in fact probably better considering how small modern flatland bikes are.
bobsnewdirection
ive been riding a floval flyer for the past month or so at the local skatepark, its fun as hell and scares all the little guys that get in the way. i think its actually more fun than the 20" but it could be that its just different.
Nightsblood
Geez, I started this thread 2 years ago and its still got some life. Took out the cruiser yesterday and went riding with my son. Good times.

a project bike i've had on the backburner for a while. it's a late 90's (1 1/8 headset) Torker aluminum 24". several things obviously make it not great for flatland--like the v-brake mounts and the more-raked head angle. however, the raked head angle kinda reminded me of a MORALES. especially with the 4 PRIMO tube steak pegs and Standard 6-piece strip bars. like 1993-95 era flatland.

i've got some chrome profiles, graveyard 36t sprocket and a primo casket stem which might end up on it.

'94 Hoffman Big Daddy for comparison/calibration. heh heh

pretty stoked==just ordered a Tribute Bikes 24"
will have a sick freestyle cruiser build shortly!

http://tributebikes.com/

this is on my general lee 24::

short vid clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQA2E71iWUE
the General Lee 24" (i think mine's an '06) make a surprisingly good flatland 24"--but i knew it could be even better. it's short in the front, like 21.25" or so, normal steep-ish head angle, probably a 74.5. the back end is a tad long but the top tube is nice and low. the crankset is stupid heavy. so, looking forward to a more dialed freestyle 24" with the Tribute.

CharleyGnarlyP290
That Tribute is cool. Looks like an R&R....
upsetbmx

some of you mid-school flatlanders may appreciate this . . . . Basic Whammy bars, Primo Tubesteak pegs, KHE freecoaster, on my Tribute24:
