Does anyone have experience cleaning pads?

These are my original pads from the early 80s. I found them in the bottom of a bucket of parts.

The flash picture makes em look NOS but really they are covered in a dull dark grime.
Just dirty from use.

The logos and threads are perfect so I just need to get the wrinkles out of the nylon and get the grease/grime out of the material.

I'm thinking about soaking them in a bucket of warm degreaser then wash off under the fawcet.

PS-I don't intend on keeping these after I clean them up so if you have any interest just let me know.
Otherwise, they'll be hitting ebay in the near future.

Hey Bridgey...nice pads...Personally I would not put them in degreaser, as I would be a little concern with the print being a little delicate after all these years...I would try something a little more gentle and wash them in dish washing detergent, and repeat if necessary. I would use degreaser as a last resort, as they really don't look too bad...let us know how you go with them..

Gotta agree.. No de-greaser.. I got a set of used white pads and thought.. well they should wash.. well, they were not meant for this world.. They frayed badly and the blue wore off a bit in spots.. I really should have known better but you could imagine that a well used set of whites would be very dirty.. I had no other way to get them even half clean.

Warm soapy water and a fingernail/soft hand brush should be fine as long as you stay aways from the ink.

well it worked pretty well.

saturated the pads with dishsoap and let em sit for 2 or 3 hours.
then put the pads in a hot bucket of laundry detergent.

waited a couple of hours.

lightly scrubbed the pads with a toothbrush.

ALL of the grime came out leaving the original blue vinyl.
the red part of the logo was more delicate than the rest as I noticed some pinkish soap when i went over that area. still kept the logo intact just fine.

ended up with 2 light colored dots on the pads which I presume would have been there anyway since they were just covered by the original grime.
