Hey Guys - I'm SO STOKED!!!! biggrin.gif

Let me tell you why...
A mate of mine (not into VBMX collecting) rang me and said he had picked up a old 80's mongoose with tuffs from a kerbside pick-up and would I want it?
Oh yeah! A free goose - bring it on. My mate lives in Sydney (900km away) and said he'd be up in Brisbane last week for work and
would drop off the bike as well.
He rang me when he got to Brisbane and said he only brought with him the OTHER bike he got from pick-up.
A "steel frame bike without tuffs" and "a set of steel wheels" he informs me.
OK, I say - a bit deflated but happy with any bike. He gets to my place and opens his van........this is what greeted my eyes!

DB chromoly frame
DB forks (capped)
DB stamped SR stem
DB stamped MKS pedals
DB stamped Sugino 3 piece cranks
MX 1000 Dia Compe/weimann brakes
Comp 3 tyres (very used)
Alloy bars
Dia Compe lever (scratched up)
Anno fluted seatpole
Suntour Seat clamp
Fuan Grips (very used)
Araya rims with High flange Shimano hubs
Stainless chain

....plus a rusty bell.

AND....the "steel" wheels are really a great set of Red Anno 20" Ukai's with Shimano hubs and red Panaracer tyres!

Amazing stuff - one of the best scores for me and all it cost me was a few beers for my mate.
She'll need a dip in OA and general clean up but I'm stoked! I'm wondering now about the "Mongoose with Tuffs" he has for me as well.

Any info on this frame would be great - serial# 1H0166 (with baseball)
Cheers

What can I say, thats one of this years real finds!

Well done Mick!
Volcano
Thanks guys - blew me out of the water when I got it! biggrin.gif
I forgot to add that it has Araya 7C rims and Dia-compe levers - but is missing a Kashimax DB seat.

Can anyone tell me what year it is? huh.gif
Serial #1H0166 (with baseball). I believe that makes it Japanese made?

Cheers

Kurt.
Hey Mick.

It's definitely an '81. Yep - Japanese made. Only 77/early '78 DBs were made in the USA and can't be mistaken for the Koizumi made frames.

The Senior Pro was released in mid-'81 with that sticker set, then moved to the blue DB stickers from the start of '82.

You've got yourself a rare early Senior Pro. Very nice.

A buddy of mine had one of those when we were kids. Ive looked all over the net for a DB with the red accessories like that and havent seen anything. I didnt even know what kind of DB it was until kurt just said. There arent many around. Pretty rare Id say.

Let me know if you want to get rid of it. My buddy would flip over that. Cant wait to show him the pics.

EDIT: When i said red accessories, i was also talking about the red in the DB stickers. That is what I had been looking for and havent seen any at bmx museum or anywhere else for that matter. Id be hesitant to scrape those stickers off until i found some more. Maybe a DB expert around here can tell you if you can find some repros for it. Look around for DBs with red in the stickers and you'll see what I mean.

Those decals are incredible!

Mick,

Great score! I say you just clean her up a bit and ride it! Looks like the perfect old school rider to me!

Volcano
Thanks for all the comments guys! biggrin.gif

Kurt - Cheers for the info...wow, a Senior Pro - never thought I'd own one of those!

MadCowboy - Sorry...he he, this one's a keeper. I found a sticker set on UK ebay. Not sure if they have anymore though.
I'll keep an eye out for ya. Keep in touch about that.

Average Joe - Yep, I love the decals - the other DB's I've seen just have the letters and no snake.

serva - Cheers mate! hows the new old school shirt?

Jeremy K. - Not much of a rider - I think I'll build her up and admire...LOL

RCain - I'll post lots of detailed pics when I finished...now I have to find some red radpads for it huh.gif Anyone know where to look???

TuRBo Todd Britton - Graphites might be a long shot but you never know...ha ha

Cheers

Mick

........I now seem to be an "expert" as the info box tells me...LOL laugh.gif

Volcano
Hey guys - I've got a set of red tuff 2's, do you think it be too much "red" if I put them on or should I leave the araya's on??? huh.gif
Also, what grips would be best?
Mick
MadCowboy
the Arayas and Oakley B1s would be my choice
Volcano
Araya's I have biggrin.gif ...Oakley's will be hard to track down huh.gif
I have a set of A'me if I cant find Oakley's...
Does anyone know if "Fuan's" were the OE for this bike?
Mick
REBEL24
dont think faun would be a good choice..ask oldschoolpk to post a pick of his..it is nos..same decals but euro bb..i love those..i have always wanted a blue decal senior pro...nice score
Volcano
REBEL24 - I don't think I'll use Faun's, I have some red A'me's - they might do the trick. cool.gif
Any DB experts out there? - I know you are Kurt biggrin.gif and cheers for all the info...
Mick

hey Mick, I have a left NOS red oakley three that you are welcome to but finding one right one has proven to be harder than finding a pair. I've head this bloody thing for three years looking out. biggrin.gif
Volcano
Christian - You're too kind! biggrin.gif
I'll return the favour...I have some grips you might be interested in.
I'll email ya with some pics!
Cheers for that - I've never had Oakley grips before.
