After much searching, I finally got a Matthews Monoshock frameset. Picked it up on Ebay for a good price. Not sure if the seller is on here, but the seller was great. I now have a Matthews mono to pretty much complete my collection. I am building it as a rider, so we can use it on desert camping trips, etc. Here is a shot of it. It appears to have been refinished, has long Ashtabula fork (anybody have a girder fork???). I added Ashtabula stem, Schwinn box bars, Motomag II's. I have quilted seat, and several sprocket sets to chose from yet. I even still have my NOS set of stickers from BITD. Plus...as MonsterRobot said, Im bumping this thread 'cause I like Matthews.

Beautiful frame Guy! Good luck on the forks....they're tough to find and the competition is fierce every time there's an auction.

You scored well! That's going to be lots of fun when added to your mechanical menagerie!!!

I have wanted a Matthews since 1976 when my friend Larry (Larry33 on here) and his two brothers each got one. About ten years ago I traded an NOS Torker f&f with a euro BB to a guy I didn't know for a "Matthews" monoshock. It turned out to be some bone mono that no one, even to this day, can identify. I know the guy now and I still have that stupid monoshock. The funny thing is, I actually owe him for the many hook ups in the time since. Right Dan? I do have some forks though...

.....FORKS??? did you say you have some girder forks?? If you'd like to sell them, please keep me in mind? Thx

Here's mine. I feel like riding that puppy this weekend!

Guy....check your PM...I may be able to help you..."maybe"....! Let's see the finished product...you've had ten days....that's usually enough time for you to finish a project! (It's enough time for me to polish a rim....)

TimL....that's a very sweet red monoshocker you've got there! Is that all Takagi in the bottom bracket?
Guy Mazza
Hey Michael, Got your PM. Please keep me in mind if anything comes of that...
Heres the mono, I re-did the rear swingarm/shock hardware, and this thing rides great. I have schwinn box bars for now, Oury grips, Ashtabula stem, fork. Unknown brand crank, and soon to be changed (too small) sprocket. Also added MotoMag II's w/Bendix coaster, and one of those crappy quilted re-pop seats.

Im only 155lbs and the shock actually works pretty good! I just wanted something to 'play' on while camping, and not riding my real scooter:

Next time your in Cali, lemme know. We'll have to hit the dez!

What or how rare are the Girder forks, checked ebay and nothing. I did find one localy and they think it is a lowrider fork. Boy did it look funny not on a bmx bike.

I'd definitely try to pick it up. I'm sure Guy Mazza would take it off of your hands!

As far as eBay, they come around a couple of times a year. It seems to me that every time one sells high a couple of others will come out. Twice in two years I've seen little groups of NOS discovered. They went really high at first ($450) and then came down a little. Used are, of course, usually a lot more reasonable.

Thanks, wanted an idea of a price to offer. So I guess if it sold for $400 before then If I offer $150-$200 would be good?

I've seen NOS as low as $225. As always, condition would be the big factor. It would need to be pretty sweet for that money in used condition. Just my opinion. I doubt you'll have any trouble moving it though.

yeah grab them, you can always move them this way if you don't like them angel.png

It's a little slow here so I thought I'd give a sneak peek of my latest "almost but not quite done" project.

I got this far last weekend and ran out of time. I should be finished this weekend. I need to install some currently NOS KKT pedals, chain and bottom bracket. I also plan on polishing up the motomags as they are a little oxidized. I just picked up a set of MX-60 wheels that will eventually end up here. They need powdered and hub guts. The bike should be quick and easy to finish.

I'm up for suggestions on the decals. I've not seen this bike in chrome in any of the old magazines. I'm assuming that it uses the same decals as the painted frames.

So far:
77 Matthews Hardtail
LRV Fork
Box Bars
Ashtabula stem and crank
Three Arrows 44T
Vinyl snap pads
Tange grips
Messinger saddle (saw an old Free Spirit 10-speed at the Salvation Army for $5. Gave them the $5 and an old seat I had in my truck and left the bike)
Unknown chrome seat post (installed "Spike style" until I finish the bike and adjust for my shorter legs)
Motomag IIs (for now)
Cheng Shin tires

broke L345
that's very nice, I'm unfamilliar with that model so I can't give you any advice I love that seat.
