Oh let me try this...third gen '84. Dan (Dan's Haros) will see this post and give you the exact right answer.

I wanna see how close I was.

Oh yeah, and don't you dare refinish that. That's a survivor.

I was just looking on the BMXmuseum web site and from looking at the frames I'm going to guess 81-84. Looks like in 85+ masters had frame stands built in on the back of the frame by the rear hub.

Ok I'm new why should I NOT rebuild it?? "a survivor" you called it?
I'm listening...smile.gifsmile.gif

To be honest I was going to look for some blue or white tuff wheels and some brakes and slap it together....smile.gifsmile.gif

Hey whats good for getting the crap off the frame (clean it up a bit)? WD-40?

thanks

About refinishing: should be only for frames that are quite rough. A frameset is only original once, so once it's been stripped, painted and stickered, it's just another restored frame that could have been a total POS and had to be welded on, etc. So keeping a decent condition frame OG is what you want.

A good deal of time and effort with a mild auto rubbing compound and a soft cloth to gently get scuffs off would be a good start. If there's residue from grip tape or whatnot you can use Goo Gone or something to get that off. With anything you use, be gentle on those original decals!

Putting some era-correct parts on that thing (you know, stuff that was available around '84-'85) and making kind of a "rider"...that's what i'd do!

Check out the Vector bars....

I second the goo gone, that stuff is killer. And it doesn't smell like it will give you a tumor after you use it.

Oh, and the orig fork is gone I guess but what you could do, is look for a fork from an '85 FST---without the pegs---and that would look good with that frame. Unless of course you can find the right one...but good luck on that, LOL.

That's a great score and will make a real neat lookin' ride with the right stuff on it.
twintoptuber
Yeah, that's a first gen. '84 Master frame with Vector VC10 bars.

Nice score and if you sell it to me for $500, I'll find the forks smile.gif

James, you rascal...

$500??
Is it worth that much?? (I'm not selling...lol)
So should I scap the vector bars and get some Haro's?

Also what kind of forks should I go after...don't have the coin to go nuts here.

Any input and recomandations would be cool.
I'm NOT going to restore it for show

Just looking to get it in riding condition and ride it.

It needs

1. forks (because the forks on it don't have a hole for brakes)
2. Bars?? maybe
3. lay back seat post
4. seat
5. Brakes, front and back
6. tuff or skyway mags.
7. freestyle tires (any ideas?)
8. grips

This is going to be a nice winter project.

thanks

Hey GM -

Hit www.harofreestyler.com & check the gallery. A US master commands the respect to be build correctly. They are not that common & yea, it's worth $500 all day long. The official build specs are there & take your time.....you don't need to build it in a day..or a year.

Thanks for the info
You think I should go all stock
Even if I'm not going to strip it and restore it?

I just want period correct stuff on it so I can criuse around..wink.gifwink.gif
Like I said I really don't want to dump $400-$500 into it right now.
Just getting the frame redone would cost 150-200 plus decals

$500 all day and its chipped up and has a few small rust spots??
I'm amazed!!!

I had a white 85-86 when I was a kid...who would have thought...LOL

Sorry guys Frame is gone!!
Dans Haro's beat you all to it.
By the way it is a 1984 Gen 1 haro Master

I traded it to him for a MINT restored NOS chrome 1985 Haro Master complete bike
with a set of redline flight cranks on it.
Just like the one I had when I was a kid...... smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif tongue.gif

Thanks Dan for being Honest with me on the frames value.
I will post pic's of my new bike soon.
thanks for all the info guys...Love this site

I knew he was up to something, LOL!

Seriously though...Dan's the guy when it comes to Haros. And as straight a shooter as they come. You can rest knowing that frame is in good hands, along with other family members in Dan's stable.
