Okay, I found a GT nora cup a couple of months back. As i was taking it apart for cleaning i was estatic to see the sticker on the fork tube. I also have another. Here's the deal, I was looking at both serial #'s only to discover they're different in how many #'s are used. Can anybody shed some light on this. I tried to by way of a topic on another board.

Pic of the one i found recently #23403

Pic of the one i've had for sometime #6831109

I think its a 2/83 - I've got a 24" # 12307 (1/82)...

I don't know that I've ever seen a 6 digit serial...but I'm not that big of an expert, I just have one.

Hey Psycho...I went and checked the one old GT frame I have. It is a GT Mini. The serial numbers all appear to be individually hand stamped, because they are not really aligned with each other. 781XXX (the X's are replaced by numbers, but I don't really like to give out my serial numbers anymore, due to a bad experience one time.)

I don't know if this helps you puzzle out your own serial numbers or if it confuses the issue more...

Your serial numbers look a lot like the numbers on my old GHP's. Not surprising since I think GT made them for GHP at one time.

If I had to guess, I'd say that your frames are #403, made in 2/83 and #1109, made in 6/83. Now, the question becomes, #403 of what? 403rd produced that month? 403rd of the year? Does that include mini's, 20's, 24's?

Why didn't the rulers of Bicycle production anticipate that collectors would one day want to know the answers to these questions?

Good luck to collectors of new school BMX frames made in Taiwan and/or China. Those serial numbers could challenge even Hut 8 of the Government Code & Cypher School. (Anyone interested in chatting about that chapter of World History - PM me.)
