Full Version: Saw A Patterson Cruiser The Other Day

So after all these years or riding, collecting, I have never laced up a wheel. (This will eventually get to the Patterson.) I'm working on a Ceppie Maes replica CW and I brought a Z-Rim and a Sturmey-Archer front drum brake hub to my LBS to get the spokes and have them lace it up for me. I'm talking to one of the guys and another one comes over and knew exactly what I was making. I brought a pic of Ceppie on the bike to show them what I was making and the other guy saw that and knew who it was right away. We got to talking about older BMX bikes and I told him that I'd bring this binder I have with pix of all my bikes when I come back to pick up the wheel. Turns out they got the wheel done and gave me a call a couple hours later, but I was on my way home from Fort Wayne already and wouldn't have been able to get back to the shop in time. So I told them I'd come get it next Monday because I had to work the next few days and then would be in Chicago the few after that.

Anyway, Monday I went to get my wheel and brought the binder with me. They were all getting a kick out of the bikes and one of the guys says something like, "Hey, we have a Patterson cruiser hanging in the back, you want to see it?". It turns out it's another guys who works there but he wasn't in that day. They said he got it at a yard sale with a couple other F/F sets, not sure what kind, all for $50.00 not too long ago. They couldn't remember what the other framesets were, but the one guy was sure they were looptails, which could have been a bunch of things, but who knows. It was pretty cool, definitely ridden a lot, it was chrome, had black 24" Z-rims on it, a silver Tuf-Neck, GT cruiser bars, pretty beat up Oakley grips. I didn't get a pic of it because I had no reason to have my camera with me at the time (could have used my phone I guess, just thought of that), but it was pretty cool to see hanging back there.

Cool score for that guy. Would have love to seen that one hanging from the rafters in the back. Patterson 24" is my next build after my childhood Cook Bros. Nice story.

Cool story, you should check back with the guy and see what else he scored and ask him if he wants to sell any of it. You never know and it never hurts to ask! smile.gif

That is a funny coincidence, I have never owned a Patterson before but just recieved my Cruiser today (previously a member on here owned it) in the mail from an ebay purchase...it also has GT Bars, Tuff Neck Stem etc...I will have posted up once I have built it and made some of my own touches!

Seems to be really nicely made that's for sure, it's going to make a nice rider...

That is a funny coincidence. That's an awesome bike to get today too!!! I don't remember the pedals that were on it, and the seat was a black Kashi or Viscount Aero I'm sure, the markings were worn off the sides but there was something there at one time, lol. The one I saw had 1-pc cranks. I'll definitely check back on it the next time I'm there, and about the other framesets he picked up. Even if he's not interrested in selling it, it'd be cool to know or see what else he might have.

Nice story - will he part with it?

Nice 24" 84Profile - who owned it before you?
I've seen it before.

Stu, that is a real nice PR240 smile.gif

Here is my 1983 PR240. It is currently stripped down, awaiting a facelift. I hope to have it done before Christmas smile.gif

Bob, there's really only about 2 that I go to, both in Fort Wayne which I live about a half hour north of. One is called Rider's Ready, which also goes by bikes-and-boards.com, and the other is Summit City. Summit City is where I saw the cruiser at, and there's some cool people that work there, but the other store seems to have a lot more BMX stuff. The Rider's Ready store looks a lot more old school with benches made out of old skate decks, 2 cats that live in the store, and it just looks like an old shop. The other store is a lot bigger though, nice big building, really bright and clean, but a lot more road bikes. That one's closer to the track and most of the other places we go to when we're in Fort Wayne though, so I mostly go there. I've only lived out here a little over 8 years, and they've all been here at least that long, and the few other shops I've seen have been all road/mtn bikes.

Donvader, thanks for the info. I live about 2 hours east of Fort Wayne. I've lived out here my whole
life and most of are older bike shops have closed or are new school/road/mtb. I would like to see what's out there. p.s. the last time I was really in Fort Wayne was for the '85 nationals at supreme b.m.x. park. it was a N.B.L. sanctioned track. again thanks for the info.
