I got this at a garage sale. I have searched all the redline threads I can find. From what I can gather it looks like a MXII or III. This frame has no serial number on it anywhere. There is nothing on the bottom bracket at all. It was found with a Redline Brute stem, Redline V bars with redline stamp. The forks were chrome and have a redline stamp in the steer tube in a circle. The fluted seat post was stuck in it and had to be drilled out.

During soda blasting it looks like the frame was originally yellow????

Anyone know what this is??? or the year for it????

any help would be great . THANKS IN ADVANCE !!

Jon

I think the issues is: it is a combination of new and old. When I first saw it I was going to say 2004, since the headtube/decals but the cranks, steam, 7X all say 80's...

You need to get more details. what serial numbers are stamped? Could be on the bottom bracket, or could be someplace else - you have to find them, and also being that it might have some newer items on it but could be old, see if there is a Redline stamp. I honestly thougth at first glance - 1 1/8 headtube and too new.... but it is not new.

TeamRob, Thanks but that is the problem there is no serial numbers on the frame anywhere.

The original owner bought it complete in the early 80's. It was spray painted white and he put newer style decals on it. You are right , the serial number should be on the bottom bracket for this era frame. You can see from the picture there is nothing. I thought maybe someone had grinded the serial number off (stolen) but it is not. After blasting the bottom bracket area is super smooth and no marks.

I already printed off the serial number year guide posted on this site But its not going to help since there isn't one.

1979-1982ish MX-II frame. the stamped fork points to a Japanese made setup. besided the bars/stem and wheels, not much looks stock. if the cranks are stock, it may have been a 700 model originally.

did redline ever make a year with out serial numbers??
TeamRob
If it is Redlin it has a serial number someplace. Maybe not on the bottom bracket (that would be after SBS bought them). This frame is for sure not to old. The top tube and down tube are at least 1 1/8" so, if I had to lay money on it (I would not lay any more for this bike) I would say 1989-1991? I am not the new Redline expert. You might wan tto try the new school side and see what they think.

with those dropouts and the super laid-back seat tube angle, it's definitely an older one.

the lack of a serial is probably just a production screw-up. it happens.

after blowing up the pic again, i just noticed the fork decals. if those are original, it's '81/82.

thanks a bunch Coasterbrake.

The fork decals were original, I called back and got a hold of the guy that bought it. He said he bought it new in 1983 asa complete bike. He changed parts as they broke. So I will take your word for it that it is a 81/82 model MXII.

It is also lacking the gusset weld in the lower chainstays that people have talked about.

I just didn't know that they sold them with chrome forks and painted frames. Most adds I have seen had them as F/F painted matching colors.

Dud I have a chrome one just like it. Mine is japan made '81 model.

Meant to say Dude not dud.

the non-Proline frames didn't have the brace between the chainstays, so that's all good.
