I have just got these from a complete bike I bought. I know nothing about them, can anyone fill me in about the era and what model they are (apart from Suntour). I never saw them in mags or in person BITD. They appear to be seal bearing and great construction....I would appreciate any info...

Awesome pedals I have a set.

Suntour MP1000 pedals. They were from the early eighties. I remember them in bike shops, but hardly anyone bought them, because I recall them being a bit overpriced compared to KKT lightnings etc back then.

When the Shimano DX's hit the scene, that kind of killed it for these style pedals (except for minis etc). In 1983 Suntour released the XCII's (onw of the nicest pedals I ever raced on in my opinion)

Those are nice looking MP1000's though! What are you putting them on?

Thanks for all the info guys. I thought they were a nice looking pedal...they came off the Patterson cruiser I bought recently (which is half delivered, 2 out of 3 cartons have arrived, hopefully the last carton should show Monday huh.gif ).

Not sure what I'm going to use them on yet, as the Patterson cruiser is going to be a rider and I don't really like this style of pedal to ride on. (I'll be rolling on DX's). In saying that, I like them to look at. Not too many pedals with seal bearings either (except Hutch)...I might put them on my Cook Bros. as they would appear to be era correct.

Very nice!

Probably stripped and polished cages.

Hey Stu there the original suntour bmx pedals, came out in mid to late 79". These where my first good pedals, i got mine from europa cycles in liverpool in september 79 along with the suntour VX cranks, seat clamp and chainrings. And great sealed bearings !

Thanks Andy, interestingly, they were supposed to be nos, but I agree they do look polished out...

Hey Damon (man of many flight cranks wink.gif ) they are pretty early then....Wow I forgot all about Europa Cycles, that was a sweet shop back in the day!..Thanks for the info...

yep those are sweet pedals and would look great on any build. smile.gif

Yep, definately polished up, you can see allen head markings inside the screws also.

shady seller.

the bodies always had a sand casting look. and the cages were usualy anodized, but i imagine you could get silver cages. they have been polished but not too much. right at the limit.

I had a set of those pedals with blue anodized cages.....Excellent pedals but a bit light on the gripping side of things

Those cages definitely look polished. The cages on those MP1000 pedals were available in red, blue, gold and silver.

The black caged versions of the them came out later, and were actually early mountain bike pedals. These were known as XC Comps. I have a really nice set of Clints here. (Which I have to send back to him smile.gif )

Thanks guys...just one thing, I wouldn't call the seller shady, he may have ment they were NOS before they were polished. He is a great guy, that is on here..either way polished or not I'm stoked with them. But then again, I'm one of those naughty polishing guys wink.gif
RadicalRob
NOS or not those pedals are sweet regardless!!!!
