Anybody seen the new sidehack pictorial on Defgrip? The skatepark shots are friggin' awesome...the airs out of the bowl over the trash can are mind-boggling. I don't know who those guys are, but they're obviously not kidding around with the hack action.

Those are two guys (their tags are at the top of the page - Truly Odd and Greyboy) that are very active on another site and are trying very hard to get a sidehack revival going. I've seen Truly Odd post here recently. Maybe he'll see your post and elaborate. Greyboy was recently on the cover of Dwell magazine (an excellent contemporary homes magazine) riding a BMX bike in front of his really cool (IMO) home. I don't know either of them but their posts and pictures are always enjoyable.

I just met Greyboy via phone last week. Both our sisters live in tx and are good friends and thought we should talk, since we both love bmx. here are 2 pics he sent me of his hack. oh and he is a real nice guy as well! ryan
ps He also has a pretty sick bike collection!!

Looks like riding one of those is nothing but fun.. There could be alot of cool stuff done on one of those. Hopefully they become popular again...

King of Pipeline
That is stoke when they go around corners and the sidehack guy leans out. Somebody needs to get these going again. Can you imagine downhill racing on these things. With big jumps? It would be a national phenomenom?
rick
Did they win the race? That's so dope. Is that Jon Anderson - Icee #8?

ICEE #8 is Mike and Dalton Melvin.. the hippy is behind them in the Snap Jersey....

Not for nothing and I'm not slamming but if those pics were of JP and Takahashi, Tak's butt or shoulder would be draggin' on the ground around those turns....

Yep GB and TO are really cool cats, I stayed with Grey when I went out to LA for Gonzo's BBQ and yes his house is truely a work of art. I took a bunch of pics of them ripping it up in the bowl and these guys are RAD! Checkout Grey and TO doing the un-planed no-footer can-can!!
The Red Baron
In the whole scheme of things, those two are relatively new to the 3 wheeled thing. I can attest from first hand experience with them how quick they picked up the art. Reilley and I rode with them at our not so secret downhill. They did real well for thier first time on a dirt downhill.

Since then, they have honed thier skills in some local skate parks. They have also raced a couple of times locally. They are doing what few are willing to do. Trying to revive a side hack awarness on something far better suited to a downhill but they are doing it in a flat track world. Try dragging one of these around a flat track for a full lap and you will understand.

Keep at it boys, the public loves it!

truly odd
thanks fellas. yes, thats me and greyboy. our hack career is relatively new, but we're both OG racers from the late 70's and early 80's)....and into the whole bmx thing (old school & today). we've been trying to revive the hack movement and create a new hack sport in the skatepark. we're really just having fun ridin' again. the parks are cool 'cause its some uncharted waters on the hack....we never know whats gonna happen. racing is naturally what were about though...so we're really havin the most fun with that.

and yes....we won that race! (*trophy pic below)

also, it was great riding with red & rick at the downhill that day...and to have stu thomson there riding with us was incredible! (definitely gotta do it again). congrats on the Hall Of Fame too!

our sponsors: Rick Twomey (Ricks Bike Shop), SE Bikes, OS
props to : JP & Doug (original RBS hackers).....our mentors!

spike...if you aint got nothin nice to say...save it! i do when i see your posts.

The Red Baron
Way to go! Tell it like it is, straight up!

Thanks for the congrats.

We'll ride together again, I'm sure. Take care.

Don't worry, I'll NEVER comment on you guys again....

Actually, when I look back on it, my comment was pretty uncool, I apologize TO if I offended.

You guys get mad props from me...I'd really like to get a hack, but w/10 plus bikes and an in-law apartment in SF, it's not in the cards.

As far as hacks in parks, it's not totally uncharted. Remember the pictures in BMXA of those two cats who'd ride Pipeline and Del Mar on a hack? They'd carve the bowl and at the apex the monkey would bail out?

Who's got those photos to post?
truly odd
word...i've seen those pics and the video too. so you're right, its not "totally uncharted". i should've probably said.... that it was just, never really developed.

maybe somebody could tell some stories of the OG hackers doin stuff too?

Man does that all bring back memories. Don't know if any of you all remember Norcal SideHack racing back in '77 and on my brother and I (Joe and Mike Discipulo...Discipulo Duo) raced UBR/NBA/ABA) on our Gary Little John Sidehack...still have the hack in the family. through the years in the past we showed up for awhile for Exhibition races with Gork (ABA). Man those were the days. Now I have ol' friends suggesting that we should bring out the GLJ once again. I'd love to also help out and revive the Hack. In '77 we just started out with using it for our paper route in San Jose, CA. From there the Hack riding bit. We quickly added it to our racing menu...20", 24", Open class, & sidehacks. I also had a sweet Pic of our us on a dare from BMX Plus to jump the Pro sections at the famous
Corona Downhill in LA. Most air on a hack I'd ever had, man those SE wings would've been perfect!...Anyways, if it's old school I can talk for days!!!! LET'S GET THE HACKS BACK!!!! NorCal hackers email me and we'll see you at the track or on a downhill!!!....Joe Discipulo...ohana4me@yahoo.com...
*****oh, yeah, if any of our NorCal race buddies are looking at this or know them...extend a 'Whaaaaassssaaaaapppp!!! to the Crowfoot Bros.*******Pics to follow

Thank you, my long lost "other" brother-in-law. LOL Jon, that was a great story you told my wife and I at Roseville.
Not to high-jack this, I just wanted to add to it. Especially since most of the side hackers here were there. smile.gif

Love the pics guys. Great shots.
It brings back a lot of memories for me too. My riding buddy bitd was the monkey on the Aust #1 hack. That were a great team. I never got to have a good go at it. Pity 'cause it looks like a lot of fun.
Anywho..heres a pic of some OG skatepark hackers. Greyboy and Truly keep it going. Rock on boys.
