This is the best Thread ever,
post more pic's,
I wish someone just for the fun of it would start a sactioning body with tracks just like these,
I would race again, these remind me of the days of just trail riding using the natural terrain, though I never raced on tracks like those because I was a wee lad in those days and we didn't get our track here until 1980,
I do belive that is the way BMX should be, after all its named Bicycle moto cross,, we all wanted to be motocross racers but for reasons like our parents wouldn't buy us a motorcycle or they thought it wasn't safe no money, we raced bikes instead,
I must admit I was a nobody also, but I kinda got sick of racing on tracks where getting the holeshot meant everything, the tracks were too short or too lame, it seems that the shorter and easier the tracks were, the faster they could run the races,
these pics remind me of the days of just going back to the trails in the neighborhood and lining up and racing each other on whatever surface was available,
of course I could have done without all of the BS that went along with this thread..
this was a thread to show the early days of the sport, so lets just keep it like that and post some more pics for us to enjoy,
if anybody wants to talk about if the 70's were better than the 80's or the 80's were better than the 90's, clips no clips whatever take it somewhere else,
lets just keep this thread full of great 70's pics,,and if anyone has a problem with that and wants to fight,,well then crawl up your own a$* and fight for air, suckers!!!
NOW POST SOME MORE PIC'S
spike
I'm surprised that this topic got bumped up.....

I got about 30-50 or so more pics but I feel like I have to clear it with the proper authorities.........

Merritt in 1975. Danny Oakley in the lead, I'm just comming off the jump in 5th.

Spike, that last photo is really cool. It sure would have been a fun track. I bet you had to drag out the 48t sprocket for that. We never really had any downhills here in MN. A couple had some downhill starts but nothing like that.... I'll post a bunch more later.

This is my favorite thread so far.

Louisville, I also agree. It would be fun to drag out my Stormer and run it against something comparable (DG, FMF, Webco), or somthing from the day..

Did someone say something about drilled out # plates on the previous page?

Brian,

That twin top tube bike you're riding (or trying to hang on to wink.gif )... is that a Rink's Raider or early Steve Johnson design?

You old timers act like all us 80s boys did was ride on a race track. Race tracks were only riden approx 3 days a week. The other 4 days I was riding trails that were every bit as gnarly as those tracks in your photos. Id also put my race bike (nora cup GT) up against any of those bikes yall rode, strengthwise. Those one piece cranks of the 70s are no match to the strength of my flights. And lets not forget that our bikes weighed less allowing us to get everybit as much air as yall did on those tanks, and most likely more!

great photos btw smile.gif

wow i'll put a pair diamond cranks up against your flights anyday rode all of them including them if it wasent for the 70's you guys would still be riding tricycles bow down and pay your respect you rock spike thanks for the kaw pic thats mine ph34r.gif
