Hey Guys
I've got a 20" Huffy Pro Thunder. Can anyone tell me what year this was made? Are these frames rare or dime-a-dozen?
I'd like to restore this to it's former glory but have no info or photos to reference from.
It has brass brazed tubes and came with original forks - one dropout is broken. The Frame number is HC0910135.
I saw the "rare frames" post and there was a Chrome Huffy cruiser with the same gusset. I've added some pics of the frame.
Any help would be great.
Cheers

Back in 82 I had a chrome Huffy with the same head tube gussett. I got it from a friend and it had no stickers so I can't judge by that. I think they kept that model until the Sigma came out some time around 86.

Cheers pwh4130 - Thanks for that.
Can anyone else shed some light on this bike? Any pics or parts list would be a great help

there was a complete pro thunder listed at bmxmuseum last week, having a hard time getting rid of it, you may get your parts cheap.
the parts are super low end so they won't be easy to find on ebay as most wouldn't consider them worthy of posting.

hey volcano,
I got a yellow one in very good condition, minus 1 wheel and the headstem but I'm pretty sure I know where they are, I'm in melbourne Australia and it's all yours if you want it but it may be too expensive to get it you you. I know youre in oz somewhere. They were a supermarket bike interesting but worth pretty much nothing.

broke L345 you are a Legend!!!! That frame has some parts I'm missing.
I'm based in Brisbane but I'm trying to get down to Melbourne to see Waza real soon.
I'll organise something with him and see if we can meet up when I'm down your way? Are you in Metro Melb or the outer suburbs?
I'm sure Jetstar will allow me to take it on as "carry on" luggage....LOL
Can you PM me your email address? Is there anything you're chasing that I can help you with?
Thanks again for the frame.
Cheers

I dont think id call myself an "expert", but I recieved many bikes from huffy to ride and give opinions about, everything from 16" pit bikes, to Pro Thunders, even 10/12 speeds. one interesting bike I was given was the slingshot, but more about that later.
I believe, based on the comp cert sticker and the type of bracket that this bike was built in late 1980 or early 81. They are rare, because they werent highly prized in their day and usually found their way to the scrap yard quickly. just having one today, not that its worth much, but if one were to be in excellent condition, and have era correct parts, like tires, grips, pedals, It would be worht a bit in MY opinion.

Hey Chris
Thanks for that info. Any chance you might have a pic/ad from BITD with the original parts?
Something to reference from when I'm searching for parts.
Did huffy sponsor any Factory riders?
Cheers

Hey Mick, those yellow mags come up all the time. A mate of mine scored some a month ago ($40). The stem might be harder. Marty (Mr BMX) in melbourne won a stem 2 weeks ago. It was NOS too I think.
I don't remember them in stores at all. I only ever looked in bike shops. I worked for Coles but we sold other names.
I have a magazine ad for those Huffys if you'd like it. I'll scan it later.

Hey Coasty - That would be great!
The ASC tuffs were 6 spoker's from the pics shown. I think I have a front one but not a complete set.
So when are you selling me that Supergoose?.........

Are you making fun of me....LOL
Don't knock Target, I do all my Xmas shopping from their discount & damaged goods bins!
Maybe that's why I don't get good presents...
I think I'll ask santa for a supergoose - have I been naughty or nice this year?
Thanks for the picture. Cheers Mick

My first BMX bike was a Huffy Pro Thunder. I think we got it used at a Holiday gas station sometime in 1983. It had no caliper brakes, 28-spoke rims, black frame, yellow v-pad on the crossbar, yellow pad on the gooseneck. The top tube pad was blue and said "Pro 4". I pounded the heck out of that bike.

LOL Nah Mick, Not havin a go mate. I can't even remember the name of my first dept store bike.
Hey, Huffy has been around for a long time. They can't be that bad.
Oh yeah, here in Hervey bay thats all we have. Target is the main store around here.

So how many bike shops are in Harvey Bay? Have you raided them all?
You don't have a dedicated Vintage BMX shop...that's odd?
I noticed there is a Huffy Pro Thunder up on Aussie ebay.
How many bikes do you have in your collection? Are you chasing any parts at the moment?
Cheers

LOL I saw the one on ebay. It's all there.
We have 2 shops in Hervey bay and 2 in Maryborough (35k's away). All of them have been cleaned out. So has Bundy and Gympie. Only small bits left. I got them!
Only bits I'm looking for at the moment are bendix 76 hub parts for my motomags. I have everything else done but the bendix bits. I'm also building a mid school Mosh at the moment. I have everything for that now.
I don't know what I'm gonna do with it but it will ride nice.

LOL - I knew you would have raided them! I still find a few bits n pieces now and then.
Just last week i scored 12 sets of "Ornate Design, Inc" grips (otherwise known as ODI).
Not mushrooms though. So there's still stuff out there if your prepared to look hard for it!

I saw a Huffy on eBay USA and it looked pretty good. Tuff 2's and ano bars - thinking I might go that way with mine.
Not sure if I want to go "era correct" as I have a few projects on the go that are more of a priority.
