A few weeks ago I saw a picture of some guys racing with their bars upside down and backwards making the bikes look like a flat track bike. I was in a hurry and didn't capture the image. I remember seeing the pictures of this in a magazine bitd and even remember messing around with my bars and deciding that it wasn't very effective. What were those guys doing or what was it called?

Are you referring to the short lived fad of gravity powered downhill racing? There were some custom bikes made just for this purpose, but a lot of the racers used upside-down bmx frames with upside down bars and something in the back to stand on.

I thought it looked pretty cool when I was a kid. If there ever comes a day where I get through my long list of "want to build" projects, I might build a replica of one of these.

Lee,

You mean one of these?

That may be it. I just remember the crossbraced bars being upside down and backwards. I rode my bike like that for about a day because I thought it looked cool. After riding it for a while the coolness went away....

I don't remember the bikes looking like the one pictured though...

There is a feature article on this type of downhill racing.

That's what I was thinking of. Is that what you're thinking of monster?
Monster-Robot
That's it! And...I think that may be the very issue that inspired my little unsuccessful experiment. Just wasn't a very good idea...
