A friends son found this on hard rubbish. In Australia the council ask you to put junk out on the street once a year for collection. Often it's a very good source for old bikes. He found this I offered to buy it with no luck so I offered him a mid 90's haro for a trade and I got lucky.
as you can see it was a rusted up piece of crap but mostly complete I still need a seat though and I'm hoping to get black peddals instead of silver. I think they would work better.
THIS IS A : 1977 Crossrider MX1 Australian built, heavy as you get and I thought it would ride like a sofa on wheels but it is surprisingly fun to mono and just ride around. I chose orange instead of the original yellow because I thought it looked a little too much like a Yamaha. Artistic licence I guess.I also had the decals remade, pollished, painted it to it's new state.
Thanks for looking.

Amazing... What an awesome rebuild!!! If I had it, I might think of Ginny's for parts... She's excellent, you might find a proper banana seat here:
http://home.comcast.net/~rinisbikeshop/seats.htm Restoring such a piece of history should make you awefully proud! Cheers!

That's beautiful Christian.
The Rottie doesn't look too excited but I'd be happy to have that in the collection.
My first BMX was a Reliance dual shocker quite similar to that. Brilliant downhill, a b!tc# uphill!
How on earth did you score the Crossrider stickers???
Kurt.

Thanks guys!
I grabbed it because it was pretty much complete.
I had the frame powdered twice because the first time the guy gave it to his apprentice to do and I could have vomited a better finnish( it's still not perfect but nice enough). went to the local bolt shop and bought all new bolts for it ,the ones on the rear shocks happened to be an odd thred and he could only get me stainless ones plus I had to buy the whole box of 25 if he were to get them in they cost me about $130.00 for the box so now I have 21 spares.
my wife runs the project & design department at her family business so they were able to peice the decals together within 1/2 an hour and sent them to a guy in the next office who just happens to have a sticker machine at home. found the rims NOS at a seccond hand bike shop one was gold so I had to strip it. the hubs were found at the same bike shop but I had to dip and re spray them. bars resprayed, metal pollised locally, tires on ebay, grips from willios (ebay) every thing else was wire brushed and pollished or painted. A Thai guy I know was looking at the wheels in bits and asked if I wanted them laced, apparently thats what he did as a job when he was young so BANG they were done.
put it all together all regreased etc at thye moment I have been sitting on the rear guard to ride it a bit, being impatient. It rides so well.

Stellar restoration job, but I think it would have looked better as a cleaned-up survivor. That second "before" photo looks downright mean. But, survivor vs. resto is a matter of taste, so congrats on a job well done.

Wow Christian, that turned out awsome. I love the job you've done.
Could you have the seat redone? It doesn't look as bad as mine.
Awsome!

This is what I found on the side of the road
One day during the council kerbside pick-up - i was about to give up when I spotted this little beauty!
Even has mongoose stamped reflector bracket and Gold stem sticker in great condition.
Sorry, no other pics yet. It's in the middle of resto - will post pics when it's finished.

I guess it would have to be a kinda dragster seat from the shell I had but I am picturing a black ribbed vynal seat of some sort. I guess I have to keep an eye out on ebay 'cause Ginny's doesn't have quite what I'm after at this point.
Turbo, the kids dad has seen it and just shook his head , he couldn't believe that you could bring something like that back. I'd feel bad if the kid fell in love with it, but he will see it and get a ride if he wants when it's done.

Christian, is this the style? I don't think Ginnys has them in black though. They have others in black. The seat I needis a little different to yours as mine can't be solid mounted at the rear.

Or this one maybe?

Coasty,
I'm pretty sure the first on is more like it. judging by the shell I have.
