A friend of mine who owns a shop pulls this bike out the back room he says he KNOWS I won't have ever heard of before... an RL Osborne Bully. Funny thing, he was WRONG. He would have been more correct to say that I have never SEEN one before in person. It is in pretty fair shape and complete save for a few rim dents in the rear. What is it worth? It has the RL neck, frame and forks, Skyway seat, 48's and a few other cool parts. Was this available as a whole bike or pieced together? Any interest before it gets Ebayed? Motoxrcr@wans.net

Oh cool. I'm looking for a Bully Bashguard bike from 1989.
Can you post some pics? I'd love to see it. I had a Black and Olive one back in 1990 - but it broke because they were made of pretty inferior metal (despite the 4130 decal) Everybody that rode one bent or brkoe it.. so they're semi-infamous.. but I always like the design and graphics.. and always wanted to replace mine.
PM me - or post pics. I'm interested.

Yeah man. Perry Mervar was AMAZING.. His section in the Ride Like A MAn video is one of my all time favorite flatland moments. He was the king of those Hang Nothing's with his feet out over the bars.... He had the Red/Black bully (with no bash guard) in that video .. right?

Yeah, it was available as a complete bike. As was mentioned before, I've heard lots about the quality control issues.
Is it the bashgaurd model, or no? I think maybe Pauly has one. Of course its worth money, but it'll be worth more if those 48's are Peregrine Super Pros.
Sorry all, these are old images from a scanner that was on its last leg. No time to find and re-scan right now.
PS(I wouldn't give TOO much credit to Bullys as a flatland bike. Perry Mervar could make it look good on a Huffy Sigma. Props.)

Haha.. Perry Mervar on a Sigma.. Now that I'd like to see... and I totally agree... they werent' really Flatland Geometry.. .. Thanks for posting the old magazine scans.
I have a Bully/Hammer catalog somewhere. I'll have to scan that too... funny pen & Ink Characatures of RL (dreadlocked version), Mike D., Perry Mervar, and Craig Campbell.. and a bunch of busty-bathing suit-clad babes.... with big lips and High hair....
haha...
I'll look tonight.

I remember the first time I saw/rode one of those bash bullys' I was staying at Hal Brindleys place in Williamsburg Va. He had an olive one. While he attended his classes at William & Mary, he let me ride it around town. Keep in mind Hal didnt use a post or seat on his bikes so I was a bit sketched at first but believe it or not I had one of the raddest street sessions ever on that thing.
Chromey, funny you mentioned the red/black bike of Perry's. I rode that when he stayed at Hal's for a contest and was horrified at how rickety & crooked it felt. I dont know how he even rode in a straight line lol!
I ended up getting the flatland complete bike for christmas from an ex g-friend. Josh you nailed it, those things sucked big time. I still think they look cool though.
I have a bash frame I want to build up, does anyone have a Bully chainring for me? Please!!

Yeah, I scanned part of that ad for a Mike D. thread a while ago. You're dead-on about the big lips and high hair.

Haha.. woah ... I totally forgot about that... HAL rode with out a seat or post.. ... yeah. Insane.. I remember..... I stayed at Rosie' house back in like 92 for a contest we were putting on in s. Jersey.. and Hal Brindly and Steve B. stayed too... Seeing Hal bail out of a fakie wall ride .. WITHOUT A SEAT..... freaked me out.
PS - you should make a Bully chaainring out of an old peregrine CD, or a Anlun/Hutch Excel one.

I have a red/black bash frame I could let go if anyone's interrested. I also have a blue/black one built up that's been just about done for a long time now. I really like that one, I just need to get the brakes on it.
Here's an old pic of the frames together. (No I didn't une those dumb GT forks on it, I just set it up for the pic.)

The blue one is done up with Peregrine mags, Bully forklifter type bars, Bully chainwheel & padded seat, gold pedals that go pretty good with the yellow in the stickers. It's really cool looking, I just need to finish it one of these days.

WHat year were the bully bash made from 89-92 or 93? Can you date them by the serial numbers?

I rode a Bully bashguard in late 90' early 91'. I tried to like it but it just felt squirrly on vert, switched back to a Haro Sport and all was well. Gave the Bully away to a friend in Florida, last I heard it made it's way to Houston and some lucky neighborhood kid is rolling around on it.

Here's my blue one as it stands today. I'm pretty sure it's an 89 or a 90. I'll have to check & see if I can figure anything out from the serial number. I have to get a gyro on it and the brakes, and a little cleaning up. Then find some turquoise brake pads for the mags. I have replacement stem bolts too.

My little Bully Vivi, LOL. She's an 06 model.

Yeah, the frame isn't really turquise, and the mags aren't blue, but I thought they went together really nice.

What does your serial number star with? The first five letters or number?

That Bully looks pretty bad w/ those Peregrines...looks like they match perfectly. Good luck finding turquoise brakepads, though. (Let me know if you do...I gave up.) I think all Peregrine colored wheels came with grey pads?
I was thinking perhaps ACS might have a close match, because they made z-rims in aqua and also made many color pads. Never seen any around, however.

Thanks, I remember using white pads bitd when I had some on my team Sport. I looked for a while too for some that would match when I got these again, but I haven't found any turquoise ones either. Oh well. I'm just about to go home from work, I'll check the ser number in a little while.

The serial numbers on both of them are actually really close.
RD6101073 is the number on the red one and
RD6101098 is the number on the blue one.
I still don't know what they mean though.

The one I sold to my friend he decided to put it on ebay. But I told him to list the serial number since it might help the sale. His bully serial is RD9101032. I think you might have mistaken the first number as a 6? Or did I make the mistake since the stamping is hard to see? He had one too back in the day. He trashed his frame. But he had the forks somewhere. I was trying to get him to sell me the forks. But he worked out a trade for the bully frame from me.

I checked two of my Bully IIs, and the sn# are:
RD9101?
RD9101?
The rest of the sn# on both is covered by the weld on the b.b., lol. Guess you could say they were consistent.
I'll check my other frame tomorrow.

and the red

Still don't know what it means, mine start with RD6 and all yours start with RD9. Hmm?

Don - if that blue one is the one you bought from me (Bill in St. Paul), I can tell you I bought it during the summer of 1990. I don't know if that'll help you decipher the S/Ns at all...

Yep, that's the one Bill. So it's at least what I thought, maybe an 89 that was in the shop for a little while until you bought it or a 90.

then it might be a "6" the paint was covering part of the number. But the serial number is on the chain ring side.
