Cross Fire by Uni.....this is rare as its the only one completed.

Cross Fire composit handlebars....2 sets made.

Vector Mark 1.5 only one that I know of, if you know of another let me know.

You notice this has a standard bb and dual downtubes but the tubing is all the size of the mini came with mini tubed forks also

Hutch 16" pit racer 50 built only 5-6 known...at least what I was told.
Vcarter
Thanks but is not for sale. It is the last actual bike that I raced in the 80's.

Thanks man! Unfortunately, it isn't a survivor though. I bought the frame/fork/bars/post. The person who sold it to me had it complete and parted it out. I bought the cranks/brakes back from the person who bought them, and the rest of the parts were found on ebay and through these sites. It was almost identical to the big magazine ad from BITD. Just need a seatclamp and grips now.

That just makes that bike all the more cool. Well done!

Jason, those UNI pieces are great....are those yours? If so, how did you get them...if not, what's the story on who they belong to and how they got them (if you know)??

I work for Roger Berg, the original owner of Uni since 1977 and those are in the design/display/storage area...and are not for sale cool.gif
If you go to the Uni seats facebook there are more pictures of the frame and bars from the good old days.

Vcarter,
That Robinson is the bomb.

Thanks Brian.
This is what it looked like when I got it back last November. The Araya 7x, AME grips and Comp 3's were toast. Every thing else was in great shape

Jason,

I think there were more than 2 sets of those Uni-Bars. I know of a set that was used and painted white in color with a red decal. I owned them a couple years back......and they are now in the hands of a prominent collector. I find it difficult to believe only 2 sets made, with one known set having been used.

The white set is off the display bike that the frame is pictured from above(would like to know where you got them from as that has been bugging Roger for a while where all the parts from the bike whent too, not an accusation either he is old and cant remember what went where), the other set has never been mounted. The mold that the bars were done in was good for two bars....and only one mold was finished. I just asked Roger and he said only 1 set was done, and they are the ones pictured above, the ones you had are either regular bars painted and stickered or if there were 2 made its the set from this bike pictured below.....
Here is the white ones you are talking about. If the "prominant" collector would post a picture I can tell in about 2 seconds if they are indeed the composite bars.
CSquare43
I really dig that UNI bike...any idea what the frame was made of? And what kind of composite were the bars made from?

Very cool stuff.......

Jason,

Roger will admit he is getting old and may not remember all the facts smile.gif

Roger had Jay Graves test the other set. They ended up in the storage area of The Bike Gallery and about 10-12 years ago they were sold off to a serious collector. That is the set that is being discussed and they are certainly the real deal.

Ken

People remember what they want.......like imaginary barriers at nationals laugh.gif .
I know there had to be two sets as one is pictured in photo shoots and one is the set still here are two different colors, I think Roger means there was one "set" made meaning 2 as they needed a special ballast tube that was made of rubber inserted into the mold to expand when the mold was filled and then heated, and that tube was only good for one run.

How about the double head tube Blazer? I had the only one made and it was stolen before we even got paint on it, Racer Yeomans had a triple head tube Blazer. Definitely a crazy solution for a growing team member....."Just add another head tube it'll be fine, Oh still too short add another". I had to run JMC forks because the front end was so raked out and they were the straightest forks we could find. I'd love to have that one back. I also still have a copper plated Blazer, it almost looks pink. I think the copper ones were strictly for the team or they were just to ugly to sell so we got stuck with them.

I'm trying to picture how a "double head tube" frame would work? Any photos? Did it literally have two head tubes, one in front of the other?

I had a friend who had Diamond Back forks and thought they were too raked out, so he rode at "coasting" speed into a cement retaining wall. Solved that problem right away smile.gif

What about the double steerer tube forks?

Let's see some pic's of those double/triple head tubes and double fork blades. My imagination has kicked in, now I need visuals to satisfy my hunger popcorm2.gif

How about a Slingshot Mini. I visited with Mark Groendal and his brother Joel 12/11/2010 and I inquired of them how many Slingshot Mini's that had made. Contrary to popular belief they did not make two for their children as they had no children. Point in fact is they made only ONE, it was a single cable frame made especially for Brandt Hendler a hot shoe racer from Grand rapids, MI. His father and brother Jamison also raced Slingshots quite successfully. I scored the mini the second time I saw it on e-bay, passing the first time because I thought it was too expensive. Hope you enjoy the picture. Cannot get picture to load.

Those RaceTech pics are awesome. My sister raced for Hawk Factory (MN) in the mid/late 1980s and had one of these. I inherited it from her and raced it myself (Uni Disc and all). I remember it was a pain to find a seat clamp that would fit! My dad finally custom machined one...I think I know who still has the bike since I saw it at a race about 8 years ago. The same folks who bought it from me still had it! As far as I know these were produced by American in St. Cloud, MN. I owned a few of their MTBs too.

I cannot figure out how to upload my photobucket here for the Slingshot Mini Race Bike.
Perhaps you can use this link to see it. I have several photo's of it posted to photobucket.
Thanks, hope it works.

It's not the rarest, but I'm sure there isn't too many of these still floating around in this condition or color.

It's marked as being (black), but it's a incredible (metallic brown).

great thread. maybe i missed it, but what about the The Rampar R9. Ill post a pic of my NOS one soon. That was frame set was very tough to find in any condition, and was pretty sweet for its time.

My buddy Aubry has this one. It's the only one I've seen with straight seat stays on a non loop tail. If I remember right, this one is stamped 86. He was co-factory SE in the 80's.

Wow, that is pretty interesting. Never seen one of those like that.
Kastanman
our theory is it's a transitional frame, from where the seat stays meet at the seat tube, and the normal ones that join the top tube, but have a bend.

Personally this, and the loop tail version with the straight seat stays, are the best looking quads.

This is really cool. i have an '81 looptail and mine has a slight bend to the seat stays. Those straight seat stays are really interesting.
PM on the way.

1973 Redline looptail

If you throw out team frames and specialties like the TA24, GJS24, 26/24 OM ETC and go with straight rare production frame sets here is a quick list of some hard ones to find.

1. 1983 Race Tech frame. Fully adjustable cam headset / all alloy frame / only came in black. Less than 60 frames were ever produced and for less than one year. Absolutely one of the most beautiful frame's that you will ever see.
2. True first gen STR1 looped BB .... The search still continues....
3. TW racer which went up in smoke but did crossover into the early LRP era which is also very very rare.
4. 1983 Black chrome GT
5. Square tube slingshot
6. Any Nomura
7. K&S Racing built by champion / I only know of one to exist
8. Dale racing frame sets
9. Tuff Neck/Superbyke Chromoly Super Cheeta
10.Redline Monoshock only around 35 produced
11.R&R Squareback , Only two found
12. GJS Big tube
13. Factory gold looptail PK Ripper , Only 4 known survivors
14. Doug Schwerma Champion
15. Freshour / US or overseas but only about 20 US frames were ever built and only one Freshour is known to exist period.
16. Hyper built for the late Billy Ferell / Beautful twin downtube frame sets
17. Slingshot cruiser
18. 1st gen Round tube PK Ripper
14. JU-6
15. Aluminum Hutch

Freshour overseas? Freshour was made in Sikeston Mo. I think Jerry made a couple hundred frames. I raced for him in the early eighties. If you were fully sponsored he would take your measurements(inseam, reach) and build frames specifically for you. I had a white one and a chrome one with my name stamped on them. I quit racing in 85 and sold the last one ( white) in 94 i believe. I know tk had two or three also. I think maybe most of the frames were a standard size other than that. Always look for a name or initials stamped in them. Ide love to have one of my old ones back . I think the shop is still in Sikeston and run by family . Im sure you could find a frame in down in that area.
