1984 loop tail Tahoe Cruiser not sure how rare they are but I don't see many
stolleee
Of course I will have to throw the German PTR in the mix. And yes, I have one....

I am surprised as long as this thread has been active that no has mentioned the "ShermanTank" of old school bikes - the Stroker, and I am pretty sure I thought I had even seen pix of one on this site too. I am glad someone mentioned Peddle Power too. The one I was thinking of though came out around '79/'80 and this one had a front gusset (the Privateer I saw earlier had no gusset). I think it was one of the last PP frames during the PP/PowerLite transition. I remember it well. My neighbor got it for Christmas. It was powder-coat yellow and had Tuff - I's on it. His brother got a matching candy-red one that was race-ready. He also had a sweet a@# FMF gold aluminum mini too. Lucky, rich-kid bas%#@ds. Those guys always had the best gear. We had another guy in the neighborhood that rode factory LRP. Never saw another one of those after about 1981. DK is pretty rare too. I saw the name Jeff Haney a few posts back, that's not a Haney from Denver is it?

No. I remember the Denver Haneys, though, if you're referring to the two bros who lived in the Mission Viejo area. Same guys?
Greg_Hanna
Jeff V. I had a bunch of CC racing decals a while ago. Never saw one though, got any pics?

Yea! That would be them. I think their dad ran the Expo Park track or was a NBL committee member (or both) or something like that. I'll go out on a limb here, but is this Evan Lee that lived in the same neighborhood?

97 SE 24" Quadangle, only 2 SE 24" (usa) were ever built, and one was cut in 1/2... ohmy.gif

Here is one the 1987 Phase II Pro cruiser. Serial #687113, there probably were not a ton of these to begin with, but I only see the Mini Titaniums still floating around, You rarely see a Chrome Moly version. This was mine from my factory days and I just got it back from Powder coating where it was returned to its original white.

Here is a shot of me racing it back in 88'

I have owned a couple of the rare frames listed in this thread: Sorry the pics are not too clear.

BB Racin Cruiser, probably 1987.

Peddlepower Privateer, one of the best 20"s I ever road. Wish I still had this one. Racing in 1989.

I also owned semi rare:
84 Kuwahara laser lite
Early 80's Thruster Vanishing Point
87 Phase II Pro 20"
85 Zeronine Pro (this replaced the kuwi when it was stolen)
jmc/ace
I still have my '77 ProFab tandem..... wacko.gif

Now that's somethin' ya don't see every day, or ever for that matter... cool.gif

Not sure why my MN faction brethren are not sharing this basement find here in the rarest frames thread. ....I'll press the issue.

ABM with clamping headset and BB.....

That ought to act as a cattle prod.....wink.gif

Yup, we have a couple of ABM/Race Tech frames here in MN/WI. They belong to my brother in law Nate. A guy he knows just gave them to him w/ a bunch of parts.
The Freestyle frame is FH3 and the race frame has a S/N of 047. They're pretty wild, though it appears the race frame has a bit of a bend in the rear end. It's seen better days.
Also check the dropouts on the customized Hutch fork. You could set the front wheel BEHIND the center line if you so wished.

Remember when Toby Henderson and Jeff Bottema rode for Raleigh? I remember them eventually getting some frames made of Reynolds tubing by their road bike welders. Looked very nice for the time. Don't know if more than 2 were ever made!

yeah, that bike was rad! Pretty trick ride...
hemidart1
How about the 1982 Norco Starfire Team bike. Made from Tange full Aero tubing(just like other bikes of the day) but came with a 5 inch headtube!-That makes it pretty rare. I've got one and have only seen one other pro size(I've seen just one expert sizeas well).
mtbnj
They maynot fetch the biggest bucks but the Thruster Tripower Cruiser (The big frames) are certainly rare. IMO one of the coolest designed bikes from BITD. and I just happen to own one! biggrin.gif

I've talked about the American bikes before - but I remembered something new recently. The race frame was called the "Stealth".

I've been looking for that shot of Toby's Raleigh for years! What a great looking bike. Anymore shots from that magazine article? Thanks - Buzz.

#32. Kuwahara Single Gusset model KE-1 1979

Top 10 in my book, it took many years to find and restore my KE-1!
I still need a MCS Hot plate if anyone has one for sale?

blink.gif The E.T. Kuwahara should be somewhere in the top 50. I know ET is a kid movie, but it was built on a solid platform and did help propel the popularity of BMX to more youngsters. I raced on my ET Kuwahara back in 82' and think the rareness and collectability is reflecting in the steep prices you see today!

L8,

Mike

When I was a kid growing up in Texas there were 2 brothers that lived in my neighborhood. The older kid Tommy had a Rebel Racing General Lee and the younger brother had a Johnny Reb mini. Both of these were loop tails from what I recall.

From what I understand the only people that got the Rebel minis were factory riders and those who had close ties with the company. Later in our youth the mini got stolen and man I remember the father blowing a gasket.
mroze1
Someone probably listed it but my NJ made Mr. Stix Wedge is rare not just in brand name but design....seriously, how many BMX frames had 3 top tubes?

Has anyone ever seen a black chrome GHP?

John Cherry, owner of Project Bike in W. Lafayette, IN and racer, had one of the first ones. I remember him being all geeked up about it. He said Greg told him they wouldn't be doing any more because the process was hard and pricey.
Jason F.
Vector Mark 1.5 expert I have the only one that there seems to be any record of actually still existing, has to be a few out there sitting in garages or basements.....
Jason Chang
Titan did chromo frames for the big guys but I only seen the Ti mini stuff. In the NW I saw a Hi Tech. Bacck about 1978-80 the shops would have all the frames lined up and there always seemed to be 1-2 frames I never heard of and was not in the mags.

I just re-read this entire thread. There is no mention of a Beacon King Cobra (Kobra?) My friend bought one from our local bike shop around 83 as a F/F combo. It has prismatic decals on it like a Diamond Back of the era. It was an extremely light bike built up. He gave it to his nephew and it hasn't been seen since. I would love to find another one.

Another bike that I have, supposed to be rare is a BADD 20" frame from '99. I know it's a lot newer than we are talking about here but its supposed to be one of three. THe kid I got it from rode for them and said only he, the owner and the owners son had one. I really should take some pics of it.
rick kast
i have a badd frame, don't know anything about it but it has a hella long top tube, but still set up for caliper brakes.
Jud Ciancio
White Profile frame. In 1984 and 1985 only the factory team had them, about 20 frames total.
CJGoodrich
Factroy Columbia frames, 1982-83 mini's and 20" less that 15 total. The team rode cro-moly of course. My team frame was a one off custom.
All other Columbia bikes were made with hi-tensile steel.
G-Flash
1) Steel FMF that's still NOS
2) Rick's frame (OG WEBCO)
3) Anything that's A&A!

Best answer so far, hand made frames are all rare and each one is wholey unique unto itself, celebrating craftmanship is where its at.
