I'm mostly a mid school guy but like the SE made products from the late 70's and 80's - so from an outsiders perspective I am just wondering why the loops are going for soooooo much money on the bay lately...from what I have gathered they made loop PK's from 79-84 (correct me if I'm wrong) and there is no way that you can tell the difference between the frames by serial....I have no idea how many frames SE cranked out there in five years, but I'm assuming they're not that rare as compared to lets say a mild steel quad (which were the first year of production correct) or even a 1985 PK (the only year with a straight chainstay and a loop)....IMO I would rather want a 85' PK if you're going for the "rare" or "collector" factor...

Are the high prices a result of collectors who are a little bit older and have more money to spend?? I have wondered the same thing about HUTCH bikes...It seems like you can find a loop quad, a PK, or a Trickstar every day of the week on the bay, so why are the prices so outta control? Please comment and let me know, bc I'm lost...

Just to clear the air, I LOVE SE bikes and I just picked up a 86ish (non-loop, curved chainstay, no brake cable guides) PK ripper and correct landing gear fork and can't wait to finish it...Maybe one day my PK will reach the value of these ones ohmy.gif

Everybody wants a PK.. especially if it's from the 80's... They seem a dime a dozen. I like the new retro stuff myself... But, Hutch come on.. Everybody knows,,they demand bling...

I know that they demand bling, but why? They seem to be a dime a dozen just as the other PK loops...

I also liked the PK retro, but made a trade to get the 86...

With the looptail PK's being the first PK's, they are the most popular. As you've seen, there are plenty of them out there. Your links don't work but I assume one must be of the white frame and fork. That is a topic of discussion elsewhere too. There is absolutely no reason it should be that high other than there are two guys (probably both fairly new to Ebay) that want it and are gonna bid each other to death. I'd actually be surprised if the seller gets paid. You can buy nice restored PK loop frame and LG forks for $600-$800. I've sold numerous completey restored loop PK's with all NOS parts for what this frame auction is at ($1600) and sold a couple ALL ORIGINAL loop PK's recently for about half of that. It's Ebay. There will always be someone dumb enough to way overpay (unless of course it's me doing the selling).

Ebay BMX sales run real hot/cold. For the last two months you couldn't hardly give the good stuff away and now in the last couple of weeks stuff has been going for stupid money again.

Brian,

I agree with you for sure...maybe asking "why" prices are so high is like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg? Yes, one of my links was to the white PK and the other one was to the baby blue "survivor" ripper with unstamped landing gears that have rust on them...that set-up needs a lotta work! Not that I wouldn't love to have it... smile.gif I'm looking forward to going to Pep's and I'm sure we can continue our discussion there...maybe I will bring my baby blue ripper...I don't think it will be finished, I ran into a slight crank problem smile.gif (I will bring those too to discuss them) but it's coming together quicker than I thought it would....
