Picked this up today. Pretty good except the paint. Some VERY minor surface rust, but nothing bad at all.

after looking around a bit, I'm not sure on the year. The serial starts with 87, but it is on the bottom of the downtube, not the dropout. Does this make it an 88?

looks like an 87 or early 88 from here. I think the only way to tell the difference between 87 and 88 is the decals. Later 88 models had painted rear triangles and I think they lost the 990 mounts.
At least that's the case with the Sport. I believe the Master followed suit.
Selling? I'd like one of those as a rider.

Nice score there. Did you take the headset out? I've had 2 of those 87/88 Masters that the top cup could be removed by hand, and the lower cup not much tighter.
wagonguy
Yes, it's for sale, and no, I didn't remove the headset from it. I'll definitely test fit a cup now. Thanks for the info.

It may be the original YST headsets were a little smaller diameter? Beartrap cups should fit good.

I went and test fit a selection of used cups from my "junk box", and while not overly tight, most fit tight. One of them I could push all the way in with my hand, but most I could not. It isn't flared at all, so it must just be the way they are.

the black/chrome was an 88 color scheme and most 88's had solid color handlebars not two tone. the all 88 masters had chrome rear triangles and 990 mounts unlike the sports that went to a solid color rear triangle and no 990 mounts for 88.5. just like cars the next model year starts getting made durring the current year hence the 87 in the begining of the serial number. lot's of 88's also had painted forks rather than chrome too. 88 seemed to be a very mix and match year for haro

oh yeah almost forgot nice find
