Just wandering, I raced the first race in Amarillo back in 1977 on a Schwinn Mag Scrambler. The race was put on by Gene Roden and Sam Rudd, in the Tri-State Fair Grounds Coleseium. Then they built a outdoor Track on South Washington. Then I got my first real BMX bike a DG (still have).

Welcome to the site, I'm in Dallas but did all my racing in San Antonio in the early 80's.

Danny Wall, another Amarillo native, stops by here from time to time. I raced there at your outdoor track in 1979 and 1980 during the ABA Summers tours, as well as at the nationals held there. We also raced at a track in Dumas and one more that at another nearby city who;s name escapes me at the moment.

I still see Danny from time to time. One of the last time I saw him he was racing at the new track here in Amarillo. Some of the places that I raced at were Amarillo, Dumas, Lubbock, Enid Ok, Ok City Ok, Albaquerqe Nm, and the Grands in Las Vegas as well as the same Summer tours that you listed.

Anyone ever remember a guy named Chad Sheffield from Amarillo? Circa 1980-82?

I raced the indoor track during the Redline Nationals. Home tracks were in Albuquerque but spent a bunch of time in El Paso and Chandler as well.

Billy Patterson,

When you were in Austin, did you drive 280z or know Chico??? Just wondering, your name sounds familiar???
