I'm building up a 26'r and need to pick up a chain. I use a KMC Kool chain on my Firemans 26" and it's great. I am looking at the Shadow Conspiracy chain with the half links but need some opinions. I want a chain that pedals smooth and has some side flex in case my chain alignment isn't dead on. Are these chains nice and worth the money?

Just JeffB now
After almost a year and a half I replaced my Shadow Conspiracy chain. I was just going to get another one, but I found out they made it in black now, and it`s in VERY short supply. Very cool looking:

(and never mind the protein bucket. Inside joke with Greg Hill)

If you can find them: DID or D.I.D. chains. They still make chains today but for motorcycles. I used one BITD and it never failed me. The very same chain is still in usage today.

I used to always get the Sedis Sport chains... now I usually get Shimano HG chains. they seem to work equally well.... I have yet to break either one on a single-speed bike. Crankarms, freewheels and chainrings have broken on me many times but I still have some of my old Sedis Sport chains from BITD... and as long as they stay wet with plenty of oil, they are good to go!

The Sedis people now manufacture SRAM chains, so you can technically still get those.

If your 26'r is going to be a single speed, the half link chains are great for getting just the right dropout placement. I use a KMC half link on my regular 20 and it's held up fine. It has a little more slack than the Shadow chain mentioned here, so you might want to look into it.

Now, if you want something sturdy that isn't wide like a motorcycle chain, consider the Whipperman chain (with matching beefy price tag).

Good Luck!

I ran sedis sport chains all the time bitd. so when I got back into it I called some of the local shops,
some of them didn't know what the phuck I was talking about. then some of them said they didn't make them anymore. but if sram is make them, technically they are still out there. I liked them because they would hold up to my large body and strenght. and I also second "DIRT"

Keep a close eye on that KMC Halflink. I just broke mine at the skatepark last week. I've had a few other riders complain about them as well. Alot of locals go with a KMC 410H. It looks like a standard chain but the outside links are a little thicker than the standard 410. We sell more 410Hs at our shop than any other chain by far.

Shadow chains also rock and are now available in alot more colors.
