Anybody know a place I can get a skateboard. The old school type, you know, the wide type. Like in the 80's. Any good on line places to get a complete.

I had Indy 169's on a Tony Alva , coloured "signature" deck , waaay cool board to be walking or riding around here in the late 1970's. Orange wheels ???
Now MIA , presumed stolen from our garage by one of Matt's school "friends" in the mid to late 1980's when they were visiting.
What I want is a set of those "G&S speed spark" things that attached to the rear of your trucks & gave out a big rooster tail of sparks , or at least find out what material they used to create the sparks....
Definately more fun to mount something sparky onto your BMX , pegging cards into the bike spokes never really did anything for me , especially after I saw the G&S ad.......

Seems those old school boards seem to cost a bit. like about $130.00 for a decent one. Kind of alot.

K.O.P. Thats pretty much what you would pay for a decent new board, think of it that way, helps take the sting away a little.

I bought a Vision Gator reissue deck for about 50 bones. Came with rails and a tail bone to boot. I had the local shop order some wide trucks for me and I was in business.
There are several companies making reproduction decks, I like them for riding but prefer the originals to hang on the wall.
Ebay will have reproduction decks available cheap, usually the repops' have a different design somehow so that you can easily tell it is not original.

Most all of the "retro 10x30" decks aren't cheap, they are a niche market right now - at least from the major companies.
$120 - $150 should get you just about any killer 10x30 set up.
Whatever you do, don't mess around - RIDE INDEPENDENT TRUCKS - 169's or 217's are the sh*t...

I gave up trying to find the ones I'm interested in. One is Walker skateboards---the Scorpion, the Nightmare, the Exterminator...I used to skate at Tory Boettcher's half BITD, he lived about 15 minutes away and was sponsored by Walker.
I also dig the early Rocco-era SMA stuff from the late 80s. But I'm not collecting that 'cause $$$! CRAZY!
Those new tribute boards they have out now, though...that may be worth a look.

One question. I am interested in getting a board so I can skate with my kids. But I don't like the popsicle stick decks of today, but today's boards seem so much easier to ollie. Which of the old school boards have good tails for ollies comparable to today's standards? Any help would be appreciated.
Criscobath
Aug 31 2007, 12:02 PM
Looking for good tail?
I really liked the tail on my Zorlac John Gibson. It was the Retro (upturned nose and different wheel base), not the Re-Issue Zorlac John Gibson (just like the original). I wasn't much of a ollie guy, so take it as you will.

I've actually grown to love the popsicle sticks.
I started w/ a shop board w/ indy's and Powell Soft Cores (can't say enough about those wheels for ditch action). It's a blast! Super easy to work. It doesn't feel like I'm riding a kitchen table.
Old school shapes do feel more at home on vert though (which I've given up). Or, the odd run to the store.
Seriously! If you're using your board for cruising or ditches, look into the Powell Ditch Techs or Soft Cores. They're the cat's ***.
