2 sets of trails in the NW may be getting plowed. One in Redmond WA and one in Portland OR. The Grotto in Portland had been running for over 16 years. Keep ur fingers crossed, keep your spots chill and don't bumm out the neighbors...

Sucks. Nothing takes the wind out of your sails like getting your trails plowed. We had three sets that all got plowed in a two week span in Bakersfield. Pretty much killed the dirt riding scene down there.

Scott, whats the word on those jumps?
Have you been out to Duthie Hill? It's mostly (or all, really) XC/freeride, but there is one line that you would probably like. The Big Tree Bikes (or Zebs) line. It is around 20 jumps in a row, slight down hill. They are kind of racer-ish, not real big lips, but it's damm fun.
Takes about one full minuted from the first jump to the last jump. Some gaps are around 20 plus feet.

Redmond, WA Trails RIP. I heard they got plowed friday..lame. I feel for Leo, Robert, Tyler, and Justin out there, they did an awesome job, i'd say over 40 sets. It was a sik spot.
I stopped by the Grotto a couple weeks ago. No Trespassing signs are posted all over. It looked like no one had been there in a bit, as there were branches and debris all over the trails, and it didn't look like anyone had been digging. Jumps were capped, and if it wasn't so muddy, ready to run. Word is that an inspector at one of the houses across the street that was selling asked about what was going over there in the woods, and it was enough to call ODOT and the people who run the park. Really too bad as that was always kinda a go to place in PDX.. but this winter, it looked like the bmx'rs got on it and totally re-built it (which according to some, is what caused it's potential demise). I hope it makes it.
Busted out the mtb and rode Duthie park yesterday. Zeb's line is pretty sweet. I guess that is one thing the mtb'rs have in many cases like the skaters, and that is some organization, and are building some legal places. It's getting harder and harder to legally catch some air on the ol 20" these days..
Maybe I'll have to bust out the clips and go girl hump some pregnant rollers or try to gap the tables w/ 2 lil bumps on each end at the track??!

You nailed it Scott. BMXers don't have the adult/organization that is needed to communicate with the suit and tie city officials. One or two bad apples makes BMXers look bad.
But, the BMX racers clearly have some organizational skills. I stopped racing in 1983 when I put pegs on my bike so that's not really my world.
Seems like the racing world and the dirt jumpers (guys they don't call it Freestyle anymore?

) could work together to get something done. I honestly don't see that happening though. Do you?
I was always kind of a Box Jumping Freestyler but I'm riding a 26 inch dirt jumper now and all I want to do is ride trails.

I never understood how people could just ride trails all day and not care about doing/learning tricks. I GET IT NOW.

Hey Scott, I am Pat Joubert. Not sure if you remember me or not. I took some time off due to a back injury.

Pat, how are you? Good to see you on here. Yea, I hear ya on where the trails fit in with so many riders lives as they grow up and out of the disciplines they grew up doing. I always raced bmx, but was building spots to catch air to "train" for racing. But over the last handful of years, I realized how much more rewarding it is for me to be just riding my bike, with my friends, on stuff we actually built, and the feeling of floating a new jump or line. No rules, no sign ups, no sitting around, no kooky parents..!! It, in my mind is the purest form of BICYCLE MOTOCROSS you can get. Sure, at some time it's great to win races or learn tricks, but it's sure great being just a big kid in the woods riding and smiling just like it was 1985 again..
Good week for me. Lynnwoods, Duthie, Dart, Blackrock, and maybe get to Lynnwoods tonight. Brahhhp.

ugh.. got the call today, trails got plowed earlier today
not much compared to others, but still hours upon hours digging lost and we were on our way to greatness
plus they found ALL the tools cause "somebody" didn't put them back where they were supposed to be at, oh well...at least nobody got ticketed for digging i guess
oh well, off to find the next spot weds

I've just discovered this gem of a thread today while at work and this is so awesome. I've read it all. I live down in Austin but my girlfriend's family is up in Portland. Was going to ask if any trails in Portland area would be ridable (weather permitting ofcourse) in September. Sucks asking after hearing about Grotto. Sorry for your loss. Looking to ride some street too, pm me. Coming into town sept. 4th.
Awesome thread, once we've got something substantial built at my buddies house I'll post the pics but it seems the donkeys and longhorns like climbing on our lips and landings. Might be selling some beef soon, if they keep it up, lol.

That's funny I've got the same issue. We've got 4 horses in the pasture where I'm wanting to build some jumps. I'm going to have to build a fence to lock 'em out!

we don't have donkey's or horses at our trails, just poachers usually on big bikes who are allergic to digging..
