I love this time of year. It feels so good to me to get out and dig on the jumps. This is my favorite line at our trails. C-did and ob-3 diggin Here is a pic from a couple years ago on this line. Sorry about the poor quality of the pic.
pwh4130
Nice! I always look forward to seeing what goes down at your place each year.
BS
Yes!

We're on a different schedule out here in the west with the trails looking good in the winter then going to heck in the summer. I love the trails though and wish more people did.
Kelly B
BS, I hear ya on lovin trails. I think (at least here) alot of people like riding trails but when it is digging time they aren't to be found. Yesterday before I went up to dig some local riders called and asked me if I wanted to go ride in a barn that we go to in the winter. I told them that I was going to dig and the reply was "thats cool". Another one I get is "when are the trails going to be rideable"?
mdurg
I'm going to have to come down and check those out (of course when you're done digging --- just kidding, I'd help out if you needed!) I need a beginner section though. Did the box jump in your backyard survive the winter?

I think this is the most frustrating thing for me coming back after being away so long. I used to jump anything and now my b@lls seem to have disappeared.

I'd like to ride CAL too, but the weather looks like it will be in the dumps for a while.
pwh4130
I'd actually rather dig than jump. Dirt hurts me. I went to the trails last summer. Worked 3 hours. Rode 30 minutes and got a hipper and broken thumb. Yeah, I suck at dirt.
Wheelie Nelson
I'm coming to see you this fall, Kelly.

And we've been dealing with outright trail moochers here for 15 years.

It seems to be the same everywhere.
With so many places to ride these days, it's almost impossible to get some of these younger guys to actually work on something.
9th street is in a public park in the middle of town so it's almost impossible to regulate on people.

Good work, Kelly.
Bmx needs more of you.
jesboogie
I want to be like Kelly B and Whillly when I grow up. I too suck at dirt. Still have it in my heart though,

Great pics. Yeah, it's my favorite time of the year too. Nothing better than diggin, listening to the birds whistling, the smell of the dirt, slight chilliness in the air, buds on the trees. Spring has been my favorite since high school when I used to chip through the ice to get a jump on digging. I'm in FL right now, but can't wait to get back to NJ and start it all back up.

Between people not diggin but riding, stolen shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows, and either too much or not enough rain, it can really be a labor of love. But...there is nothing better than a good day at the trails...

Amen to that, brother!

this thread made me smile. when my son discovered the joy of trails at 16, he was the one trying to drag folks out to work them. he put so many hours in. man i used to love watching him fly.
Kelly B
We opened the trails yesterday. Man that felt so good to ride them.
Wheelie Nelson
[I tried to curse] YEAH!
Herb Syntec
Yeah brah....love it. Trail season is here. Got the emergency room on speed dial. Someone is a going.
RIP 401, hello Fuquay.

What's proper etiquette for out of town visitors?

Will a case of beer and some hookers suffice?
Kelly B
Wheelie (greg), Ill make sure the trails are as dialed as they can be when you and your crew come up. Our scene is about the same as yours with older dudes, jumps, lounge, fire pit and beers. Im really looking forward to seeing ya.
bmxmom
you have a lounge at your trails? is it a piano bar type thing? is there karaoke?
Kelly B
Dani, we had our wedding reception there. We had lights strung through the trees, a bar set up, tables, a big TV, a home stereo, a easyup tent with a pool table and pool table light. It was all powered by a generator that we dug a hole and had it in so it wasn't loud. Once we had a kitchen setup and sleeping quarters there. A freind of mine stayed there for a month before he could move into his new apartment. Our grill is called the handle bar and grill. It is a big metal rack with a pair of handlebars cut in half and welded to each side of the grate.
jesboogie
It has been a year since my last biking trip. I smell a fall visit back to the North East..

I think Kelly and I might be brothers from different mothers.
Kelly B
I agree wheelie (greg). You guys will feel right at home at the acres.
jesse d, we love having visitors anytime.

Kelly - pics look awesome - good to hear the place is back running.

The last 2 Sunday I've been at our trails - some digging, some riding and it's been great. But, a little too great tho - word is there are a lot more kids showing up to ride when we haven't been there. The past 4 or 5 seasons it's just been a few of us locals. Keeping my fingers crossed that it won't get to popular. I don't necessarly mind people riding - just don'e want another spot plowed.

BS
Kelly B, livin' the life!

Thanks Kelly!

Hey, tell Crandall to post that tabletop pic of John Lee from your trails last year in his gallery on the FBM site. That was one of the best pics ever and I can't find it anymore. Do you know which one I'm talking about?

Thanks Wheelie too!

Kelly Baker is a hero.

Kelly - Awesome pics and trails. I miss riding with you guys. I can honestly say you never shyed away from a shovel at The Pines. I am going to try and visit this summer on my way to the Roch.

Keep riding bro....
Kelly B
I hope it isn't too tacky to come on this topic once in a while and give a trails update. We have raked up a old line and made the doubles into tables. Now our sons ride the trails with me. This is a pic of our son Benny riding the trails. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to have my sons ride the trails with me. This is our family hanging out by the fire after a day of riding.
bmxmom
heck no kelly! makes more sense than starting a new thread, keeps the whole story together. cool about the boys enjoying the trails too

Not tacky at all. I hope you keep doing it!

I had a little sundown session in the backyard yesterday all by myself. I was trying stupid little transfer lines and making myself laugh at myself!

BS,

Hey, I'm moving from Fresno to Helendale(near Barstow) in a few weeks and I got a place on half an acre. Got room to build a little trail area or maybe a pump track set up and the Wife is cool with it. Might have to check out your back yard on the way through B-field. And if the yard isn't enough room, I have all the open desert I need.

Steve
BS
Cool, just PM me. You can come out.

Kelly - I changed a line at our trails pretty much in the same thought - get something running for my son to ride. It was a bigger line that no one used so I threw some logs in the middle of the sets and cut the lip and landings down. Added some berms to get into it and now it's one of the most used lines at our trails. It's also a nice warmup to get used to the bike and get loosened up.
mdurg
Hey Kelly,

How's it going? I LOVE those pictures, especially the family pics - those are great! When things settle down this summer, I have to make a trip down and visit you. At least this summer we haven't had the massive rain like last year so it must give you more riding opportunities. I've been racing cruiser (is that a swear word in this forum?) and running a lot. I'm going to do the Utica Boilermaker. After that is over I'm going to try to ride freestyle more and try to get more of my old moves back - jumping included. Though I think I'll have to start off on Benny's line first!

Take care!

Last night Ian Morris came to our trails and rode with us. Sorry but If you don't know who he is then I don't see the need to explain. It was a total honor to have him ride with us.

The Ginger Ninja!

I was surprised to see him on the fbm site the other day. All the way across the pond just for the Belmar comp?

Shouldn't he be sliding a rail somewhere?

Our trail season in coming to a end for the year. This a pic from our last pretty big jam we had. we have a line that hasn't been used in 5 years. The distance is 40 feet. I was super happy to hit it. 40 feet at 40 years old. . Un fortunatly I broke my hand about 3 weeks ago and it isn't healing very well. it looks like my season is over and this may be my last post in this trail season post that I started in the spring.
BS
Great thread Kelly!

40ft. @ 40yrs! Mad respect! Hope to meet you face-to-face someday.
newenglandbike
Holy crap! 40 yrs? Shoot, 40 ft at any age seems effin huge.
Kelly B
I really didn't think I would get a chance to post in this topic again this year. My hand is feeling a bit better and the weather gave us a break. Saturday a bunch of us got together and celebrated Crandall's birthday at the acres.
