okay, all time dumb girl question...

is there any reason that regular profilie cranks can't be ran as LHD?? i know the pedal threads will be reversed but that is the only reason I can think of - and i'm not sure how disasterous that can be even if i keep an eye on it.

my little guy wants to set up his new park bike like that and he already runs a 13t oddesey freewheel and i can order the LHD one of those for $20.

i'd just buy him LHD cranks if they were made in 160mm!! any help is appreciated.

thanks.

The leftside pedal will constantly come loose if it is run backwards.
punkrockgirl
nevermind!! i can add LHD on for $15 if i order
from the profile site. i didn't notice before!!

thanks again.
BS
Actually both pedals will unthread while riding. That and the pedals will be backwards. What I mean by that is that the trapezoid shape of the pedal will be backwards whereby the platform you are standing on will actually be toward the back rather than the front of the bike. I know this is hard to picture but try it, it feels really wierd.

With that said I've actually been riding my bike this way for awhile by just putting some loctite on the pedal threads. I wouldn't recommend it but it will work in a pinch. You have to keep an eye on the pedals though and maybe keep a pedal wrench with you.

Also, you can get just the LHD crank arms without buying an entire crank set.

The pedals wont unthread if you tighten them good, my friend has been running RHD profiles as LHD for years and hasnt had any problems.
BS
OK, I guess putting loctite on them and leaning into them with my 210 pound girth isn't enought then because mine occassionally still unthread...

I'm still running them though, I just check them frequently.

use loctite red. the peddals can be disassembled to switch the axles.
BS
I use loctite red, but that's a good idea to swap the axles.

Thanks.

I ran left side drive for using regular profiles for about 6 months
my pedals never came loose, its kinda like a urban legend that they will lol

just tighten em good

yeah i ran my cranks switched for a differnt reason as i kept rhd, i just switched them to get the part that holds the canks away, dodgy as hell I no, but it was a strange pickle i was in, hard to explain so i won't, anyway my pedals never came loose, ironically i pickedup a set of pedals for my ther bike which I switched the spindles on as they were for 1pc not 3pc, but they were silly cheap as they were brand new in the trow out type area, would've come witha bike that never hit the floor as they were in there shrink wrap from factory stil haha, and put them in the wrong pedal, which I realised a fair while down the track so i had 2 bikes with pedals setup strangely.
atleast I didn't seem to otice it.

You guys are awesome! I'll remind myself that it's just an urban legend the next time I'm tightening them up!

I'm happy to hear yours are working. I think I'm just gonna buy new crankarms.

Peace bros!
