hi guys --

can any of you please tell me anything about how that free shipping offer for small-part orders over $50 works at dan's comp?

i've got a bunch of stuff i want to order, but my catalog's outdated so the "offer code" i've got won't work. must've dropped off their list since then.

placed an order for a new catalog 1 1/2 weeks ago, and tried ordering that e-zine that supposedly also has the free shipping offer in it. nothing yet.

do they individually number these offer codes for individual catalog recipients, or will the code off anyone's catalog work for anyone else, as long as it's a current code?

cheapskate -- tryin' not to pay shipping.

thanks!

I got my new catalog about a week ago. They are now offering the free shipping on only $30 or more worth of parts until Aug 5th.

You might need the code that matches your customer ID, I really don't know. I'd just give them a call and ask about it.

Everyone loves free shipping!!

Little joke here...If you want be become a millionaire, start off as a billionaire and open a bike shop.

Sad joke here, there's not an LBS within 3 counties of me. In rural areas, no one could possibly compete with walmart, ebay, and genre-specific mail order.

I've tried to support two different LBS's and it's a headache. One does nearly nothing with BMX and they look at you retarded when you ask about anything other than road or mountain bikes. The other actually has decent knowlwedge and parts for bmx / freestyle, but will not listen to me. I asked about a budget wheel build and they came back with a freakin oddessy cassette wheel that would run $200 for just the rear. I like supporting the locals, but it is a lot less of a headache going mail order. I've bought from both Dan's and J&R and both times were zero hassle.

There are at least 6 bike shops within 10 miles of where I'm sitting now, and they all bug...
There's the 20 something skatepark employee who wonders why I need brake parts or knobby tires; the roadie owned shop that doesn't get mtb's, let alone bmx; or the shop that's a snowboard/bike combo, and the young guys that own the place can't wait for the next snow...
It's a nightmare.
I used to go to a shop owned by a guy in his 40's, that carried Schwinn, GT, Specialized, S&M.
He had two of every tool that Park made, and knew how to use them. Try and find someone now that faces a bottom bracket, the head tube, and straightens the dropouts on a bike with candlesticks BEFORE they sell it to you. Just doesn't happen.
Long story short, he closed up shop because it was hard compete against the big mail order guys (this was before the internet was huge). Service was king, but most people just don't get it, including "todays" LBSes.
Who to support is kind of a toss up.

Since you are in Michigan, don't forget Albe's. It's an excellent place to get freestyle stuff from. I've gotten free shipping from them by mentioning various things regarding an aardvark.

You can also mention exploding penguins and get free shipping from albes.
