Was surfing around and noticed tons of kids now using Shimano DX's on their bikes. Oddy Jim C pedals were everywhere last year, now DX's are taking over. Aside from being great pedals, what made them so trendy?

I rode them for years 1986 till 1991. I would put them on every bike I had. Never bent, cracked or broke.
I sold them a while back so they can continue performing.
I wouldn't consider them trendy, they worked, you feet stuck to them, they were light and you didn't have to think about them.
what more can you ask from a pedal...

Just a trend. Next year it will be another pedal.
The Shimano PDMX30 Platform pedals are one of the lightest aluminum pedals around. Now with the magnesium pedals popping up. I think that will be next years trend. Shimano's are more expensive as compared to other brand mag pedals that are coming out. I got one set of the old school and 2 sets of new school DX's. I also use shin guards, so no more battle scars!

The original Shimano DX pedals were classics. Since then, There have been many companies copying them but in my opinion they have really rivaled them. Some of the best 'DX style' platform pedals that I have ridden have been the GT platform pedals with the replacable pins.
If I get my hands on a set of Shimano DX's I will never be selling them again thats for sure.
I read an article a few years ago that flatland legend Kevin Jones had a stockpile of NOS Shimano DX pedals still in their boxes..... Just imagine what they would be worth on ebay these days??

I've got two sets of Perregrine platform pedals and love them. Theyre not light, but they have a large platform. Plus they've got a wicked looking bird on them.

"SUCK IT!"
Had Unions, MKS, KKT lightnings, then DX's. Had more surface area to distribute the power to, once you lock in...your there but easy enough to adjust your foot if need be.
Look cool, weight ok, and durable! Never had a problem with mine and they still are on my original '83 Torker Pro-X.
