Just wondering how high you can go....? I built a measuring bar thing and I topped out at 32". Here's my friend David clearing 32" but couldn't get over 36"...next time....

I built this wide enough to also do 180's through it...we'll see how high we can get those next week.

When I hit 30, I somehow lost about a half a foot on my hops.
Weird.
I can still clear 30, but barely.

Somewhere around 33"—just under crossbar height.

^Dag. You guys got pop.
Not that I've never measured (okay, that sounds gross) but probably about headtube high. It depends on what the consequences are - there are these concrete benches that I sometimes hop over that are just above wheel high that I psych out on because I hung up back wheel one time and got pole vaulted. I can hop onto stuff no problem.
I lost a little on my hop after I switched to taller/wider bars, but my shoulders thanked me for it.

I could clear handle bars BITD. I just started riding on Monday after a 15 year lay off. And I bet right now I would be happy to clear a curb.

last summer I could get 23 only but I was on a very heavy standard sta (30 plus pounds). This has inspired me to go out and play though. Thanks guys
I topped out at around 26" at the last York Jam. I'm not sure if that's the highest I've ever hopped, though. I'd love to clear 30" this year (I turn 30 in September), I think anything around or above that is officially high. Anything higher than 35" or so is SICK! Anything even approaching 40" is just ridiculous. I need to practice more.

I usta (used to) could hop really high. I once jumped up onto a 5 foot loading dock, and I have witnesses. But, I was being chased by the police so the adrenalin was pumping. I tried it later and didn't come close.
Here are some pics. I could clear my 48 inch bunnyhop bars easily bitd.

Five feet would be 60 inches 4 feet would be 48...no bumps or anything that would be pretty crazy...is this a fish tale...
Don't know how high I can hop but I can hop hand rails and I can hop a chain that is middle of the bars height....Don't really measure though. With a handicap sidewalk thing I hopped caution tape over bar height...(my memory on this last event may be skewed to show greatness) but its definetly the height of those little orange barrels however high they are...

My dad built me a set of bunnyhop bars when I was a kid. All the neighborhood guys would come over and we would have contests every week for years. By the end all of us could go really high, but after I started clearing the top of the four foot bars it got boring. Straight bunnyhops are harder than jumping onto something, I don't know why it just is.
We also used to jump onto the cardboard bales that were behind the local shopping center. After we got really good at jumping up on a single, we got the crazy idea of putting 2 bales on top of each other.
I think that is how I learned to jump really high. It was crazy high, but with a cardboard bale, if you went fast enough and got the front wheel over, you could just jerk the back of the bike up even if you landed on the sprocket.
I'll look through my pics at home and see if I have any other bunnyhop pics.
Although Herb you live in Raleigh, just ask Jon Byers next time you see him, he was there the day I jumped onto the loading dock. I'm sure he would remember, he was tripping out about it for months. He is the one who talked me into trying it again.

Hopping onto things makes you go just a tad higher because you HAVE to make it.

That`s insane. I can squeeze out about 36 inches, probably not far off from what I could do as a kid. I could ollie about 40, though. Hmm...good times!

My best measured was 37", when I was 17 or 18. Now, Im happy if I can do a foot and a half.
There was a kid that could easily bunnyhop 48" that some of us knew back then, but it was a weird thing, he had his bars like almost 90 degrees forwards, which helped him get all that height. He couldn't do anything else on that bike obviously.

Here are some shots I took last year. No I don't really know who they are or how high they are, just thought this was a good thread to post them in lol.

Here's a shot from Rockford 2005.

Shot from the MN VBMX Gathering 2005.

Man I wish I could still do that. My record is 40 inches back in 1981 on the old PK. The most air I get now is when I swing one leg out of bed.
