I just got a cruiser to set up for street and park... cant wait till it arrives. I got a DK General Lee 24, and I ordered Shadow Conspiracy Mean Pegs. I'll post some pics when she arrives.

Yo bros!
I'm an older/bigger rider who's racing cruiser class, but I wanted to build up a cruiser for park riding too - especially after viewing this thread
Question - what brakes should I consider?...big bikes w/big guys need big brakes!
...BTW love the pics - that Candy bar thingy is crazy cool!

Worley is riding a 250 Trls...bought as soon as they came out. He's a ripper for sure. That DC street vid is just a small sampling of what went down at the VANS park...we went there every tuesday night for three years. I once pulled a decade kickturn on Worleys bike at the park. It rides so nice.

Here's some more shots....
Worley with an X-abubaca
Worley with a Powermower Kickturn
Stang with a double peg stall on the sub
Stang with a tailtap / front wheel tap on the sub
Worley had 990 posts welded onto his seat stays and forks to run, you guessed it.... 990's. Those brakes hold those big boys.

I am riding a Standard Trails 250 cruiser. Not many were made. I am running 990's front and rear with a gyro and potts mod. My bike also has a Suntour coaster brake with an ACS Freecoaster. I rode 20" for 20-years and switched to cruiser. I found everything that I could do on a 20" is possible on a 24". Some stuff was even easier on a 24". On bigger ramps the 24" is much more stable and a better air/jumping bike. -Stang

Thanks for weighing in, man...
If all goes to plan, I'll be killing it on my cruiser on friday out at our local MTB jump park.
Okay, maybe not killing it, but definately wounding it. Or at the very least, sending it a strongly worded letter.

Just curious, what is common gearing for a street/park/trails cruiser? Will 30/13 work?
I've run 39/16 (2.4375 ratio, a touch too hard with short cranks and high profile tires) and 36/16 (2.25 ratio, a little easier, and what I'm running now).
30/13 (2.30 ratio) would probably be perfect, right in the sweet spot between the two. Nice and compact, and you can use a flip flop hub and an Odyssey freewheel.

Anyone safely running 30/13 on a cruiser? I should be getting my parts soon. One thing I didn't think about was my chain rubbing on my chainstay.

What is a good street/trails cruiser? I was in the process of building a 20" race bike, but am now considering another cruiser instead....

I'm loving the geometry of my DX General Lee 24. I can't stand cruiser bars so I put some 8" Rise Nyquist bars on it. With that done, it rides like a 20"
Here's a slight threadjack, but you guys on cruisers will have good input I'm sure. What is a good rim? On only my third session on mine I managed to taco the rear wheel being a bit over-exuburant on an endo 180. I'm a big guy (330#) so strength of the wheel is paramount. I'm also strong, so weight isn't too much of a concern. I may buy a whole wheel or I may just buy a rim and spokes and lace it up to the current hub. If I lace up the current, I'm thinking some stout rim (alex tripple wall?) and 12Ga spokes. The ease with which I tacoed the rear wheel is making me re-consider trying bar endos out until I have something better up front as well. I don't love the Tuff 24's (7 spokes looks weird to me) but would they be more robust that a good 48 spoke?

The strongest rim I have found is a Velocity Taipan rim. It is only 36-spoke but don't let that fool you. It is a very stiff rim. The trick is to have it laced by a very experienced wheelbuilder. A rim is only strong if it is tensioned evenly and high. Good quality spokes like DT 14g are a must as well.

30x13 gearing works great on my DK. good if you don't want a cass hub.

Thanks for the suggestion Craig. If I manage to kill another I'll take it For the time being though I wanted to spend as little as possible, and since I had a perfectly good hub and spokes, I went with a Sun BFR 48 spoke which allowed me to escape for only about $50. I laced it up and now I have a bike again, so I'm psyched. I did put some pretty good tension in the spokes, and upped my air pressure from 60 to 75 in the hopes of protecting the rim a bit better.
