I ride a PK Ripper and a Quadangle cruiser. I've been riding the Calgary BMX track when I can but mostly just bombing around Kilarney with my little guy. My wife has actually been riding the bmx track too.
I know a bunchof trails but they are much more suited to a Mtn bike.
Still trying to learn how to jump these beasties. Way different compared to Mtn.
I'm down for Calgary OS meet, where and when?

Sometime in later July would probably work. I will be on holidays pretty here pretty quick and wont be back until then. I have been trying to find a decent PK Ripper around here but to no avail......Id like to see them they sound sweet!!! Hopefully thats enough notice July 18-19 ish or later whatever works perhaps in prince's Isle or off of 17th
perhaps???? Millenium park??? I dunno just suggestions.

July 18 works, how about okotoks bmx track? It's the only bmx track around Calgary that's not fenced in.
I got my SE bikes from Kurt at Bowcycle. Great guy to deal with and is keen on old school BMX stuff.

Well if we go when the track is officially open than yeah, there are equiptment, clothing and money requirements. Since Okotoks track is not fenced however we could go on "off" hours and just ride what ya got.
If we want to officially ride a track the Calgary track is much closer and they are open Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and Sunday at noon but you gotta join their club. Trial memebrships is 35$ for one month. I joined up for the season along with my little guy. They have free equiptment to use for club members, good deal.

From an Okotoks Club Member, my 7 yr old is in his 2nd year racing and we hit all the local tracks every week for race nights! I just started racing cruiser this year, have an 08 Haro SR 24.. luv it. It has replaced my old school gary fisher mtn bike.
July 18 - 19 would be great days to visit our track, but not so great if you intend on riding . We are hosting provincial races # 3 and # 4 that weekend so the track wil be closed to the public. we are having an awesome "Dash for cash" for teh Elite mens group. every moto the $$ prize money for the first rider over a line in the 2nd straight doubles. Final dash for cash $$ is $800. and that is on top of the pro purse that is on the line.

We haeva member who just left for worlds in Australia riding his old school Kuwahara cruiser...

come on out and tear up our track some time

Thanks Mike, so when is a good time to head to Okotoks if we actually want to ride?

Roadie, We have practice nights Tuesday from ^ - ( and our district race nights are Wednesdays from 5:30 - 9 pm. typically any other day the track is wide open. Lots of locals hang on it and its not locked out to public use.

if you are wondering if there is something happening check out the news and calendar links on our home page
www.okotoksbmx.com

we have a great cruiser and 20 " group over the age of 30 so if you feel like coming out sometime $35 bucks a long sleeve shirt, long pants, gloves and a full face helmet gets you racing!

See you at the track..

Well I gotta go to Invermere this weekend to deal with our rental property. How about next Thursday night we meet at the Okotoks track? I'd be happy to donate to the local club to ride the track, no desire to go to the formal races, just wanna ride. I've been racing bikes for soo long that it is nice to just ride for a while.

JMOORE,

Are you Jonathan Moore who raced OBMX in the late-80s?

Sorry I didn't notice there was a post. No I am not JM. If you look again I retired '83. Is there anyone from the Lower Mainland who raced in the early NBA or ABA days? Recently met up with Jack Hutton and little Julie Wilkinson who still is still active in the sport. I guess the original old schoolers are not around on these BMX forums.

I am officially collecting! smile.gif
finished the Raleigh (rider build) and dumped the CTS

I am now obsessed with anything Webco cool.gif

BTW, collecting 70's bmx bikes and parts in Montreal is not an easy feat.
Hardly any of those bikes made their way up here back then so there is nothing to be found...things are pretty rough ... no CL scores, no swaps, no OS gatherings, nothing here! only shipping fees! I don't even know someone else who collects vintage or old school bmx in real life. If you're from montreal, please write me!

Hi, I'm new here and I'm Canadian! good2.gif I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba, raced from 1982- 1989 in and around Winnipeg and made it out to Saskatchewan for some national races... broke my collar bone in Saskatoon.... ahhh the good ole days. I am now in Maple Ridge, BC and still ride, but the bikes are bigger, still BMX but bigger. My bikes:

2009 SE racing Big Ripper
2008 SE racing PK Ripper
2007 SE racing OM Flyer
2009 Urban Menace BB
1986 ELF Pro
1984 Diamond Back
cruiserdad
Armand,
that is quite the collection of awesome bikes! if you like SE racing ( who doesnt) believe it or not those are very hard to come by here in Calgary. We visited your home track @ Ridge Meadows this past september for the Western national Grands. The boy loved how fast the turns were and how smooth the track was!. I was amazed at how well that track held up in the rain...We are hoping to make it out again this summer ...
armand71
Hi Mike (cruiserdad), I've been an SE racing fan since day one, my first one was a 1982 PK RIPPER that I bought as a frame only and built up just like my current 08 PK. The only SE bike I bought here was the OM Flyer, the others were online purchases. I've been on the track a couple of times but I'm not a racer anymore. It's a whole different ball game compared to the tracks in the eighties and it was born in the rain. laugh.gif

TK 4130
Yeah, a ride around the park, maybe a ride over to the skatepark, then hit some dirt, and of course beer to top it off....sounds like a dream day!

Hello from Delta( 20 min outside Vancouver ) British Columbia .

I need to get more sports in my life , so I dug my 95 diamondback outta storage and I am going to start riding . No racing just yet , but many cruising the streets .

I used to be into racing and everything to do with bike when I was 12-15 , then sold all my bikes except for this diamondback .

Funny thing is , I was about 5'3-5'8" when I was riding BMX .... Now I am 6'3 ! ... my 20" TT just don't fit the same ... I guess I will get used to it again . Cause I love riding 20" , but I may have to go to a 24" if I don't fit .

Any local VANCOUVER area riders know of any old/mid/new school cruises in the area , or local clubs that are not full of snotty kids on bikes there mommy's bought them . I know I know , I was once one of those kids ... but I am looking for more mature riders .

Anyways . Great site . Look forward to getting back into the sport/hobby of BMX riding and collecting .

Hi Blazeone, I dont know how far you want to drive, but Ridge Meadows has an awesome track run by a good bunch of people that always make us feel at home when we ride there.

I'm from Ottawa, I used to ride for the Boardwalk Freestyle team back in the day, doing a demo with the Dyno Team and Ron Wilkerson in Quebec was the highlight of my time there. I rode and still ride, very seldomly an 88 black and blue Haro Sport.

I used to ride in steveston.. I bought a Kuwahara laserlight from Steveston Bicycle in the early 80s and kick myself for selling it in the 90's to buy a car.

Living in the GTA now, and looking to get back int BMX with my two boys who are just learning to ride. Looking to build a couple of junior racers and a Kuwahara for myself.

Great to see the Canadian old school BMX spirit alive and well!

Originally from Victoria BC. Used to ride at UVIC all the time and "SkateWave" before they bulldozed it. Raced at Esquimalt, Langford, Central Saanich, Sydney, and behind the Juan de Fuca rec center from 1982-85. Hit a few Provincials and Nationals in Nanaimo, PoCo, Ridge Meadows, Vernon and Penticton. Just pulled my 1983 Haro freesyler out of storage forn 27 years, and am now in the mecca of Vintage BMX living in Northern California.-San Jose. Getting back into this with my kids, hoping to stay injury free.

Hopefully more Victorians will find there way to this site.
