Geez I would have liked to see that! He was a character for sure. I wonder if the frame I have is the one he raced? It's dated '77.
COASTY
Heres a pic of my sons Newer Aussie bike. The Vortex Mini.
BillyDub
My word. Some of these "Aussie" made bikes are really strange looking. Maybe just really old I guess. You guys got anything from the 90's?
Wrectangle
Classic jetninjablack I wish I'd had a dollar for every cotter pin I'd broken or lost the skin off my ankles from jumping dragsters. I've still got the scars from those days...one of which my wife thinks is hilarious...I sheared a cotter pin, went down on the top tube on my nuts and my right foot/shin got caught under the opposite pedal. Only having a coaster brake meant the only thing slowing me down was the skin coming off the top of my right foot. To this day there's a neat round scar behind each toe where i ground all of the flesh off....ah memories!!
OldSkoolRoy
Bennet...with those cotter pins we all loved.
Pete Porker
Just finished, more pics in main vintagebmx section, -the Quicksilver 24 -
OldSkoolRoy
Nice one Pete...that's a sweet ride ya' got there.
freestyler

cheers freestyler
QuicksilverBMX
I think this looks better with tuffs than Z's
COASTY
I agree Reece. Very cool.
KOSY-MOTO
Sorry Reece.. the Z's look betta..
wanna sell me the pair laced?.. Im interested!!!
freestyler
reece put the Zs back on bud if think it looks better with the zrims
cheers freestyler
Jet Black
If you like to ride your bike Reece keep the Tuff's on it , however if you like the sounds of spokes breaking & seeing your rims flex & bend beyond belief & never run true , stick the Z rims back onto it.
Maybe a compromise of a Z rim on the front & a Tuff on the back would work.
A Z rim on the rear could never hold up to any serious street or skatepark duty bitd , it took some serious insane airtime & a totally messed up landing to be able to flex a Z to death on the front of a BMX bike....
Hell it's your bike fit what you like.

Hmmmm I got a pair of black Zed rims here doing nothing maybe I can find some nice looking old skool gold high flange front hubs & lace up 2 BS "Graphite Z rims" to mix & match on my bikes....personally I'll never run a Z rim on a rear wheel again , once was enough to learn my lesson.

JB
KOSY-MOTO
JetBlack: WOW.. here I was just about to buy some Z-rims.. they look good on a show ike.. BUT as you say riding?? No way dude!!
Jet Black
Whats this "show bike" thing ?
You mean to say that you have BMX bikes that you don't ever ride ?
BMX bikes were made to be ridden hard & fast , thats why Flite Cranks, Tuff wheels , Bottema forks , Tuff necks & DX pedals were made.

JB
Pete Porker
He actually said "show ike" !
KOSY-MOTO
Yeah whats with this Show bike bizz? Alot of bandWageners say.. originally was build to be a show bike?? BUT!! the only BMX bike show that Ive been to was at Knox!!.. Ride it you stole it!! thats How I ride! my BMX bikes
QuicksilverBMX
All my 20"s are "display bikes" as I am too tall and heavy to ride them, thats why I bought the KOS and the Moosegoose (for that 20" feeling)

I think I will probably start selling a couple of 20"s as I cant ride them
KOSY-MOTO
did you say Kos 4sale? hehehe.. KOOOSSSSAAA!!!
COASTY
Reece you can still ride them. Just not like you used to. I'm 6ft and weigh 9? kg. I still ride around and enjoy it. Although the monoshocker will be a lot more comfortable to ride, and still look cool! :-)
KOSY-MOTO
Latest score...

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie..... Oi oi Oi.. Apollo style..
COASTY
Good score! That looks to be in pretty good shape. Nice Aussie history.
KOSY-MOTO
Yeah 10AussieBucks!!! You can't go wrong bro!!
Jet Black
I think this is the one & only time I raced this Apollo "LeQuero" (?) or something like that.

Great quality accessories on it , all black & silver , but the geometry of the bike didn't suit me (Note the handlebar angle) I probably acquired the 2 double downtube BBR frames that week.
After that my racing & skatepark riding kept improving & I never looked back

The BBR 1 frame (& me) in action

JB
KOSY-MOTO
WOW love those photos... HEY JB,,.. do you remember which year was that phto of you racing on that Apollo? - FivDock Park hasnt changed much still the same.. I wish they re-bowl it!! hehehe
Jet Black
Lemme think , the photo was taken at Blacktown BMX track
shortly after they had relocated the starting gate & modified the track's layout . Those elbow pads I am wearing were pre BMX Action & unscuffed , early 1982 would be my best bet , I worked for Champion Cycles after skool , so I probably put together the 2nd or 3rd Le Quero (for myself) that came into the shop. I have no idea where the Frame , black Alloy Maxy Cross cranks & the black Shotgun II seat that were on it went (dammit) , I still got all the other parts tho

23 years between building a bike outta a box , I get my boxed up GTA San Andrea's BMX bike to build today , hopefully it might remain fairly stock for more than a week this time

JB
Jet Black
The photo was taken at the Blacktown track when the gate & track had recently been re-arranged , my best guesstimate, looking at the lack of stickers on my helmet & the unscufffed BMX Action arm guards would be either early 1982 or possibly late 1981.

That Apollo was probably an early Xmas or a late Birthday present , where I split the cost of buying it with my silent sponsor & greatest supporter , mum
No idea where the frame went or the black maxy cross alloy cranks went , no great loss , but I really want to find that black aero seat that was on it , there's another black shotgun seat hiding around here somewhere too , damm those things are expensive now , I still have all the other parts , including the helmet , all with a few battle scars on them but still intact & functional.

I visited my Auntie afew months ago and forgot I had sold my Malvern Star Supermax to my cousin when I was 12. I am now 36. It was my first real BMX, an upgrade from a converted Dragster. It is sitting in their shed and still like new. It had the red components and they are not faded or anything. I couldn't belive it when I saw it. It even has my old Haro number plate, my old helmet and everything with it.
Just got to convince my uncle now to give it back to me.

Ok a big thanks to Roy for picking this little gem up. Once I removed the cotterpinned cranks I found out how light this thing is! Very light. Check the toptube diameter. It's about 1/2 " at the most. Original Vortex stickers too! If I repaint it I'm gonna need new stickers. Anyone got some?
This is Vortex mini #3. Cute little buggers.

velocidad
sweet little frame!, is it the same geometry as your boys vortex rider Glenn?
COASTY
I don't know yet. It's too dark in my shed 'cause I don't have power down there yet. They are full cro-mo too! You learn something new every day. I really need stickers now.
COASTY
Mark I compared them today and the blue number is 1" shorter than the newer chrome one. Seat tube to headtube is longer, rear triangle is exactly the same.

And get yourself and a couple of friends to dress up like you're all in the film. Come on, you know you want to.
COASTY
I can help there! lol
meatpie
If i was going 2 get two mates ta dress up with me.. I wouldn't be riding the SuperMax! LOL
The Goose isn't together at the moment (It shouldn't take too long) But 1 day i'd love to do it!!
I bought the frame & brakes from Picklediddy over a year ago..
This was the first frame that Rob powdercoated..
Frame pad came from Supermax CrMo(Trev) Decals & Addicks sprocket from Waza
I know this isn't an Aussie bike but it's from an Aussie movie.... Here's the DiamondBack

Sorry about the bad pic...
meatpie
This DiamondBack is an 83mod...I've also got a 82 SilverStreak that i'm going to build chrome/black...
I've pretty much got everything 4 it.... just needs a rechrome..... I thought that they used a SilverStreak in the movie but after looking at it over 50 times it looks like they used a DB like the 1 above..... Does anyone know what model it is???
Scotty
