My daily ride - hacked up Madison Mk3 for your viewing (dis)pleasure. Seconding Kurt T's request for some Mk4 pics...

Hey Cool Whiffletree.
I always thought the Madisons were a better bike than the lugged Maxis and Supermaxes - longer frame and a better size.
Welcome to the site mate.

Thanks guys
Been thinking about cleaning those tuffs up for over a year now but it just hasn't happened yet...funny how there's always something more exciting to do than cleaning

well this is my 26" Quicksilver cruiser. I built it up with the worst parts in my shed just so I could take it for a test ride. It will be stripped down and restored in the near future!

Parts include:
win double clamp stem
$2.00 KKT lightnings
the least BMXy seat in my shed
no name battered seat clamp
origonal no name unrepopped cruiser bars
the nastiest fluted seatpost i have seen
borrowed wheels/tyres from my KOS

Damn Howard nice work! Mind if I ask what you used to clean that one? There seems to be a general consensus on the dishwasher/WD40 part but no agreement on a cleaning solution...
QuicksilverBMX
Aug 13 2006, 02:30 AM
WD40 works well, plus a little elbow grease. I send my tuffs to Old school Roy, he does a fantastic job and brings them back like new!
Also, has anyone got any ads/pics of a crossrider monoshock???

Aug 13 2006, 03:34 AM
Hey Whiffle,
I used a handheld sandblaster on it then an industrial scouring pad. Kind of like a scotchbrite pad. After that a good soak in CRC (because we buy it by the 20ltr drum at work) and into a sealed garbage bag for a week to let the CRC soak in.
Today it still looks as good.
Having trouble finding bearing races for it...think I'll have to go loose balls...(Hee! Hee! I said.....oh, never mind).

sweet thanks Howard
I recall having the same problem with bearings - there's loose balls somewhere in those hubs I just can't remember where exactly. Finding a race that fit over the brake cone without getting all bent up was the worst part but I eventually found one.
Adding to the frustration were
these diagrams: "small ball retainer" and "large ball retainer"...big help...

thanks meatpie. i'll be needing the stickers for sure. actually they're not on there in that picture cause i got it sprayed black. the frame was red when i first got it. my ebay nick is mr_knighty. there's some items on ebay at the moment which will certainly help with the build. i think i may have to give the grabon 2's a miss though, they will be harder to get than a one night romp with Elle.

A perfect ballance of black and chrome.
Do you ride this one fast? Tell me about the chain wheel set up?

Jan 26 2007, 06:30 AM
Hey Rob,
I've got a holeshot 2-speed set-up, just waiting to get decent rear rim to fit hub to. I have two chainwheels on front so I can manually drop onto smaller one when I get to work, for the ride home (it's all uphill).
