good to see that red gone howard, i think it was gonna clash with the other colors.
hey velocidad, as you know, i dont mind rufflin feathers but that wasnt my intention, just wanted some more variety.
quicksilverbmx, yep i understand we are all into different things and most times we might not agree, you have a lot of real nice bikes that i appreciate, its not that i hate mongoose or quicksilver, its just not my thing, just like late 80,s, and early 90,s isnt yours, what do they say, different strokes for different folks, i dont intend to offend anybody here, thats not what im about, but at the end of the day if someone wants to take things the wrong way they can get ****ed, its all a bit of fun, no harm intended.

Did someone mention looptails?

Sort of a work in progress, not happy with a couple of things - That top tube pad on that polished ripper would be sweet!!

BTW I like one piece cranks, raced on them almost exclusively. I still have my Takagis and they are back on the Raleigh/Rampar R11 that I used to race ('79-'83). I tried 3 piece Tourneys and trashed 'em and I wasn't that big!.

Nice PK!!!
Nice goose too.
115kg's???? good to see I'm not the only 'lightweight' on here Pete!
Hey Jas, is it you I just bought the pink break cable and Torker pads from?
Really nice job on the Tuff's Roy. Awesome results!
Thinking of making my own pads for the PK. Maybe brown leather/suede embroidered with the baby blue SE wing logo.
I started that other thread 'cause everyone on this thread has a good time and some good conversations getting to know eachother and a bit about our old bikes and BMX backgrounds. Surely vintage is about the vintage riders too. Not just the vintage bikes???
Anyway, there are a few who come in here once in a blue moon and have a whinge about some of the off topic comments.
The other thread is a chance for them to talk about only the bikes...no banter, just old BMX's.
I won't be posting there because I don't, at this stage, own an 'old school' BMX!
I will continue posting here until someone tells me to *** off!
I'm happy to have found this site and I feel priveledged to be the owner of an older PK (once again).
If certain people here think wanting to share that is the wrong thing...then....BITE ME!!!
For those of you who enjoy the same things as me and feel the same way, which I suspect is most here,

Hey thanks Howard for the new thread. It shouldn't have been necessary, as this is after all supposed to be a "Vintage BMX" forum..... but a good idea nevertheless.
Before I depart this thread once and for all, I think I should say that while I do appreciate the passion that a lot of you guys share for BMX, you are stupidly intolerent of alternative points for view and seem to be living in your own alternative dimension of Vintage BMX reality.
Good luck to you all, but in my opinion you would be better served by learning a bit more about the subject that you think you know so much about.

Mar 28 2006, 06:37 AM
HMmmm!
I am by no means an expert. I have very few opinions on BMX in general. 99% of my posts are questions to people like yourself, who rarely answer!
Read my last post Ajay. I believed vintage bmx is not just about the bikes but about the people who ride them also.
I have a life outside of BMX. BMX is such a minute part of my life, however it was once a bigger part that I would like to get my children involved in and if possible, I would like to become re-acquainted with it. For you and a couple of others to come into this thread, occasionally/rarely and sook about the thread being off topic is showing intolerance at it's utmost! It does nothing but upset and cheese people off and no good comes of it.
Were you never told, 'if you don't have anything decent/nice to say, don't say anything at all'?
Why couldn't you have started a thread like that which I started?
I think you'll find that other thread won't last more than a few days, except to become a sh** fight and eventually destined to be removed/deleted by Hal. The reason it won't last is there are not enough people in this country who are as 'hard core', 'old school' as yourself. There won't be much to talk about!
If you can keep the thread going, if you actually want to keep the thread going, more power to you!
Perhaps Hal will strictly moderate it? Perhaps Hal has alot more important things to worry about?!
I would respectfully ask JB and Matt and others to remove their posts from the 'other' thread as they are off topic and have no place there. As I said, I don't have an 'old school' BMX so I won't be posting there.
Good luck!
Howard

Page 377, Ajay!
To quote you.
"I would like to note that some of us are thick skinned, when it comes to criticism in front of our peers, some aren't. I am reasonably thick skinned, by the way. Hence the "forks debate""
"Luis, I think it is you who needs to calm down a bit, (rather than I) practice what you preach - let people do what they want - if they don't want to post pics - so be it, leave them alone!"
"I know a lot of you guys are very passionate about your BMX and that's great. Some people have just as much passion as you but aren't as overt. That's no reason to give them a hard time eh? Try being a bit more diplomatic.....find out where they're coming from.
At the end of the day, it should be fun for all.... "
And
"Interesting attitude Lois... personal abuse always solves a lot of things"!
Maybe take a leaf from your own book Ajay!

^^^^^ well said Howard.... this isn't a contest to see who is the most "old school" or "hardcore vintage". This thread is about sharing knowledge, show and tell, general chatting, whatever - not a competition. The reason this thread has lasted so long is that we can all respect each other's diversity and opinions - whether we agree with them or not. Read the thread topic - "who is from AUSTRALIA"... maybe some people here just can't play well with others?

Hi guys,
Just wanted to introduce myself and let you all know what a blast I’ve had reading pages upon pages of this thread (probably about 150) since discovering this website a week or so ago. It’s certainly been a welcome distraction from work and brought back a heap of memories for me in the process. Whilst being considerably younger than (I’m guessing) all of you - I’m 25 – my entire childhood centered around BMX. I started racing in 1985 when I was 4 and ‘retired’ in about 88’ but I stayed around the whole VBMXA scene for quite some time afterwards. To be honest, my biggest regret in life is not continuing with racing in favor of taking up numerous other sports, but I guess I was 8 at the time… who thinks of the future when they’re 8!? One thing that has perhaps brought out a little anger out in me having read all your posts is my past stupidity in getting rid of all my old bikes! Over time I have gotten rid of an old Mongoose (minigoose) race frame from around 86, a 20†Crisp frame and forks, a mini freestyle bike (cannot recall brand) complete with original 16†Skyways, a complete race fitted Dyno from around 90’ and a Kuwahara mini race frame from around 87’? I know these are a little more recent than the bikes most of you are into but I also have huge appreciation of bikes from around 80-85 as these were the bikes most of the guys I used to ride with (who were around 10 years older than me at the time) used to ride.
Anyways, I now live in Ascot Vale (Vic) and haven’t ridden bikes at all for a few years but I bought a new bike recently and since then have been toying with the idea of riding trails and even perhaps getting back into some social track riding again for fun. Hopefully this actually comes to fruition some time soon for my expanding waistline’s sake if nothing else!
Look forward to seeing more memories and info coming from this thread in future and perhaps even being able to make the odd contribution.
Cheers,
Luke J
PS. Sorry for such a long introductory post.

Hi Luke, great to see some more melbourne guys joining in. I guess we all regret letting go of our old stuff - I got rid of everything in 83 when I was 17 as soon as I discovered girls and beer Plenty of riding and racing still to be had if you're interested. I started racing again in November last year and I'm having more fun now than I did in the 80's.

thanks for the hardtail pics marty.... I remember seeing the green model in coles - nice green rims too . I don't think the reliance factory team lasted long - a couple of south eastern members rode for them but I think the stirring from other riders and the fact that they had a totally uncompetitive bike eventually got to them. From memory the only change to the "team" bike was alloy rims.

I actually liked the look of the Green Hard Tails when they were new , the frame paint colour Mr BMX posted has lightened up a lot over the years & the green was even darker on the rims , in a side by side the green one looked much cooler than the Blue one , so thats why it got bought , as far as "supermarket bikes" went they weren't too shabby for the price.
Nice quote AJ , I'm not sure if it is self contradictory or an oxymoron.
"you are stupidly intolerent of alternative points for view [Roll Eyes] and seem to be living in your own alternative dimension of Vintage BMX reality."
You can check out AJ , as you have done many times before , but you will never leave...AJ never made any impression bitd when he was riding what are now considered Vintage Moto Cross bikes , thats where he probably is is now trying to get some ancient material NOS reeds in a 2 stroke motor to flutter properly , instead of using some nice new exotic material reeds that work 100 times better.....I might scan an old picture of him from BMXA & post it here to bring him back in a week or so..
The FAQ here seems confused & very vague as to what the definition old school actually is.....
What's old school?
Here we set the cutoff at 1989. While some disagree with this standard, Vintage BMX maintains old school ends at that year.
The next question & answer kind of confuses the issue...
Why won't you put my mid-school bike in the museum?
This is an old school BMX site, and we've set old school as having a 1985 cutoff. For a lot of reasons, including server space, we won't post bikes to the museum if they're newer than 1985. You might want to check
www.oldbmx.com for mid-school museum, although that site is not associated with this one.
Hal ???? is old school on this site 1985 or 1989 ?
Does this cutoff year apply to components & accessories manufactured before the cutoff year , thus excluding all reproduction "stuff" made after the cutoff year ? or is it limited to the year the Frame & Forks of the bike were made & keeping the build in the spirit as to what was available to buy or build yourself in that period ?
I can't retract or remove my statements from the other thread only the Moderators can , I consider them valid , to a degree , some of them were tounge in cheek , but if you want to start laying & enforcing your _rules_ you had better define them more clearly.
The only rules & instructions I will follow are those given by rangers (limited law enforcement officers) & paramilitary groups like the Police when they show me a valid badge of the Crown. Everything else is a request I'll consider as they are made by someone with no more power than an average citizen.
I give the moderators here the same respect as the Police
as this is there turf & they can send me to purgatory in a flash. All the rest of us here are just civilain grunts.

Hey JB,
I wasn't 'telling' you to remove your posts.
I wasn't trying to enforce any 'laws'.
What I was trying to do was make a point. That being, if you guys removed/deleted your posts in the 'other' thread there would be nothing there, thus the world Ajay lives in is a very small, boring one!
I picked 1985 out of the air as it seemed like a good year at the time.
Hell, make it 1995 as I don't own any BMX's (apart from an old raleigh burner) pre 1996!
That whole other thread was basically 'tongue in cheek'!!!

I'm not half the typer I used to be osamas , I cut my teeth & learnt my skills on an unmoderated hackers email list called dc-stuff for ~5 years from 1994/5 onwards , imagine a list with ~1000 above average intellignece ADD affected members who's primary interests in life were handguns , computers , cars , general computer vandalism , mayhem , serious mindgames & anything else that would get you an adrenaline rush or have US federal agents kick your door down & take your computer away.... I ended up in the thick of it all very quickly & would be involved in 3 or 4 "discussions" at a time ranging from bypassing electronic security tags, EMP devices , improvised silencer & SMG construction , no holds barred intelectual flame fights , collective tracking down of pedophiles , nothing was "off topic" , the various US Federal agencies & News reporters who monitored all the "stuff" must have had a fun time keeping up with it all......this place is is a tranquil paradise in comparison & probably why I sound like a well trained outspoken self righteous outspoken maniac at times here , you needed those qualities & more gain & keep any credability with the other prominent list members
As far as the weight of the THUG mags goes the front one weighed in at 1100 grams & the back one was a ~ 1250 grams , the 2001 Skyway graphites I weighed up against them were ~200/300 grams heavier for each wheel. I've still haven't been able to take them out for a half decent ride around , getting the rear wheel to stay in place without crushing the rear dropouts is the main hassle with them , I'll probably have to fit some ugly chain stays or dill the frame to fit a set of whale tails to hold them in place.
JB
