nice pic mark, did you see that guy in my class on the old GT was running z-rims with radial spoking? classic... sore legs for me tomorrow - 45/16 is a killer - I had nothing left before I was even into the 3rd straight. Maybe i just need to get fit? Still had a good day though.

and as for the profile cranks all that special tool does is stop you from buggering the thread in the axle while your pounding the cr@p out of it with a hammer to push the axle through and drop the crank off....LOL Rod mentioned he's had a few casualties over the years trying to get the buggers unstuck.

OK, quick question: Aren't those Redlines still heavier than a one-piece Sugino 178mm crank?
prosight
Feb 19 2006, 06:24 AM
yes Ajay they are heavier but one piece bend and redline's do not..
BITD i had to get ANLUN 3 piece cranks because i was bending to meny one piece cranks
Dad would not buy me redline as they cost $200 back then and anlun's were $99 but still cool cranks

Feb 19 2006, 06:26 AM
You wanna see a twisted flight crank spindle? I got one here .
prosight
Feb 19 2006, 06:31 AM
never seen one but they would be a lot harder to bend than one piece as that would be why the pro's used them..
Glen post a pic that would be cool to see
AjayVBMX
Feb 19 2006, 06:34 AM
I thought that I was pretty tough on equipment BITD....however I never bent a set of Sugino one-piece cranks though, which is why I ended up using those exclusively over the more expensive three-piece cranks. Not as flashy though.....
For that reason, I was (and still am) somewhat sceptical about the various "fabricated" 3 piece cranks that appeared during that time. They look great of course - lots of "BLING", but practical/racing advantages I found hard to find.
COASTY
Feb 19 2006, 06:37 AM
I'll get it from the shed tomorrow. I used to bend most of my 1 piece cranks too. The Takagi cranks held up the best for me.
This pick shows the cranks off alignment. I bought a new one from Rinis. This is how I had the bike since the early 90's. I'll get the spindle and show the twist with the cranks on.
AjayVBMX
Feb 19 2006, 06:39 AM
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, one of my riding buddies from back then was super demanding on equipment and he managed to bend ALL cranks he came accross... Redlines, one-piece, DX, you name it. He was a big guy though, and a fearless jumper.....
AjayVBMX
Feb 19 2006, 06:43 AM
Ugh! That's pretty brutal!
Don't get me wrong, Redline cranks were understood to be state of then the art at the time I was racing, I just found that I could make the one piece cranks last and I didn't personnally believe the other hype that was thrown about at the time about how much of an advantage the Redlines were. They sure look trick.....

Yeh mate, got there at a bit after 2pm not realising everyone had basically left, sheesh, unlike old days still there till 5pm+ ;-)
I followed an ambulance to the track, as some guy landed/bumped oin the 1st straight doubles and is basically unconcious and can't feel anything but dizzy, but thats bmx huh?
I live 5mins from the track, i don't recall any drizzle or rain of any sort today, musta been a tiny cloud right above the track then???

Dugga: Yeah that's Paul Gedye, a friendly fella from Lillydale club... a firm believer in the longevity of 4130 cromoly! He was actually talking about his lack of braking yesterday with the wet z-rims and is gonna track down some tuff pads for them... its a cool old bike, but i think i would trash the alloy cranks he has on it.
Marty: It was drizzling pretty much all morning - amazing you didn't get anything....

Feb 19 2006, 07:59 PM
Hey Marty,
racing is much more efficient these days. They drop the gate for the next race as soon as everyone's over the first jump. Especially fun when AA Pro follows 7 sprockets... and if anyone falls off they don't stop racing, the unconscious rider just becomes another obstacle on the track until someone steals their bike and their body gets ground into a red stain on the track.... makes for a quick meeting and everyone gets home in time for afternoon tea

Can some one give me a rough estimate on how much to send this frame (team goose) to the US? Hawaii in particular.
I used the aust post site and economy air was $47.50. Does that sound right. This is all new to me.
Thanks guys.

I would pack it up and physically take it down the PO for a quote Glenn. Hawaii is more expensive than other US states and it would pay you to check out a price in person so you dont get ripped.

CoastVL..
Around $47.50 sounds about right for posting a frame via economy mail to Hawaiiii , roughly triple it if you want "normal" airmail
Unlike when posting from the US to places like Canada & offshore "states" like Alaska & Hawaiiiii , or US military bases like Guam (which is a real nightmare) Oz post does not have that sort of mail policy , they charge the same postage to send stuff to a mainland US state or an offshore state.I recently posted "stuff" to Alaska & it cost me no more than if I wanted it to got to California or Florida.Posting to US civilian destinations is easy from here as long as you meet the box size regulations Oz post has.
I haven't sent anything to an offshore US .mil base via Oz Post for a while , but it not unusual for the "mail" to get blown off the deck of an aircraft carrier from helo rotor wash & into the sea (or some similar cluster**** action) & never be seen again. If you are sending any hardware to Pearl Harbour US Navy base I never had problems with them losing stuff.
If the military is not involved in your mail to the US it should go thru clean & unhindered in about a fortnight , unless you paint the boxs insides with bong water & rub firecracker powder or gunpoweder into the box <heh>
Even then you can mask the smell with other agants to make the dogs , go onto another box rather than pick the winner , despite their great noses & good training...
I'm not new to shipping stuff around the planet.

This morning I'm driving down the Gold Coast hwy and pull up at a set of lights. This guy rocks up next to me on an old school bike. I notice it's a 24" and spot a Hotfoot sticker on the down tube. Before I could wind the window down, he rides of through the traffic and I lost him. my question is are these 24" Hotfoots hard to come by? It's the first one i've seen and it looked really cool. Freestyler:
I am not on any "experimental crops" or similar , if you only want a pound of local or imported product then I am not the person to be asking.
I am a contractor , a magazine (to me) is something that holds bullets & should be stored half full , unless tooling up.
The Information ? It comes with experience. People pay me to do stuff that they can't or don't know how to do. Along the way I have seen & learnt a lot whilst doing this stuff..
BTW Freestyler , make sure you take lots of freshly dry cleaned clothes on you & in your baggage next time you fly on a commercial airline , especially if your going to the US, everyone else should avoid this advice.
No problem CoastVL , if you are new to shipping stuff offshore it can be daunting. Oz Post are sticklers to their rule book , if you know their rules you can use them to your advantage , try & pack stuff so it falls ~50 grammes below any set weight limits by Oz Post as their Office Scales dictate how much postage you will pay.
1 gram overweight can shift up to into a new weight class which is really annoying & you can rely on the counter jockey ther to charge you for it rather than let it slide.
JB
Mr.BMX
Feb 20 2006, 08:15 PM
All aus post staff are usually happy to allow upto 20gms 'slide' when i post stuff out.
IF you gotta play hardball to avoid going 'up a weight class', then be nice about it, try and get on their good side and suggest you didnt think the cardboard would bring it up that much etc etc, being nice always seems to work in Aus post for me anyway.

Haa! Haa! Haa!
I'll be looking for a Floval whilst in LA and Arizona this year.
Last year I spotted a looptail Ripper in a pawn shop window in Little Tokyo in LA. When I asked the Latino guys running the shop "How much?" they said it was already sold. When I asked how much it went for they said "25". That was 2500, not 25!
I nearly choked. It was nice but not original, and definately not worth 2500. Painted candy apple red with profiles. No stickers.
There was a Floval on ebay recently in West Hollywood went for a couple a' hundred. Pick up in West Hollywood. I stay in West Hollywood every year in a Hostel. DAMN!!!
