Hey Crossriderozzy,
I met you late last year at the south eastern cashdash, i was with Tim Beattie (phillips), but you didnt really rememebr my name from back in the day ;-)....i think you were a year or 2 above me, so we never raced eachother.
I have pics of you in those old crossrider ads on the back pages of "bmx tuf moves" newspapers and stuff heheheh, good ol' days fletch !
I *think* you raced at eastfield a few weeeks ago? in the metro plate series? but i didnt get a chance to catch up with you, i was chasing people all over the place. hehehehe
( i havent raced since Vic titles at Sunbury 2004).
Anyway, i'll be sure to catchup again at the next meet(s).

Pete , nah , still blowing $$$$ on MTB's but ! Damn expensive things they are !
Marty , I was thinking the same thing about rectangle being Phil B, but that pic I posted was taken at the '83 Nationals , he said he stopped racing around '81.
C'mon rectangle ....who are you ? !
Mr.BMX
Jun 1 2005, 08:20 AM
Hi All,
Here's an old pic of me smokin' them in 1981.
This was my very first race, 14class Novice.
(this was in october, but i turned 15 in november).
Boy i wish i still had that haro plate $!$ ;-)
For those of you who raced at the OLD lalor track (Vic), you may recognise this as being that wide sweeping turn, after you came out of the 2nd berm, and i'm just about to head into the tabletop, then thru those 3 tiny woops...... ;-)
Note the skyway top?
That was a plain white windcheater that i screenprinted in art class at my tech school.
Not bad for a 14yr old, especially when nobody had factory skyway gear back then hehehehe.

Cool old photos guys. Hey Pete ,I think I was there that day. I know I went to some state titles out there. Can't remember what years though.
I have a factory jersey like the one above too. It's waaaaay too small for me now though!

My teammate is on the side of the track in the red/white helmet, so yeah I was there too.

Jun 1 2005, 09:20 PM
hehe, nah, I'm not Phil B. I also used to hang out with him at the track. He actually lent me a helmet for my first ever meet. Top guy, and yeah, funny as hell
I dropped into the new Knox track a while ago and saw that their very first club president was a Billinghurst.
I double checked with the missus last night and she reckons I'd stopped before '81...how do women remember these things?
I used to ride a Mongoose #569 with blue bits
We had to have been there at the same time...at least the day when Stu Thomsen was there.
I'm trying to remember some names.....Brian Ferguson, Pinky, Germ, Pig (do you remember him always trying to break his Z-rims) a guy called Rob with a sister Tania (she always had a "Grab On" patch sewed on each arse cheek)....can't remember the last name.
Damn, I never had any photo's, my folks hated me racing....and I didn't have a camera....wish I had though.
Ahh, thought of another. Tim Lowe. Remember him?
It's great to see that there are people like you and Marty that still remember the place so well

Unreal rectangle ! I'm Pinky !! So many names there you mentioned take me right back...
Rob and Tania Olzeweski (or something like that) , Brian Ferguson , Germ ( I rode freestyle with him after I got out of racing) , and I vaguely remember the guy that was always flexing his Z rims trying to break them ! Other names I thought of today , Dave Pearson , Peter Quinn. We all just about lived at that track. My first job was in a factory across the creek , I'd ride the track every day after work plus weekends.
Phils dad was the club president ,and his sister Judy went really well in powderpuff in the late 70's.
And Tim lowe (pic below), the jumping legend , damn he was fast too even though he wasn't that serious about racing. He and Tania went together back in the day , lucky bugger. Everyones dream was to have a powderpuff girlfriend , hey !

Do you remember Andy Robinson? He got a quicksilver sponsorhip then went to Pro sight...

I must have known you , but I'm darned if I can remember you , I also wish you had some pics ! I'm certain that seeing a pic would jog my memory.
Thanks for posting , I've been stuck in memory lane the last 24 hours !
Cheers

You're kidding me!! Pinky??!!Really??
I went to school with Brian and Dave. I remember taking Brian down to the track for the first time...he was on a Crossrider or something and he got bagged big time...he was so upset as we rode home that day.
Mate, I remember when you got that job. I also remember you coming across the creek to the track after work.
You lived on Finch St. or Martin Pl. didn't you? I remember going there a couple of times. I lived around the corner on Mountain Hwy.
You were damn tall then....or I was a shortarse. I was looking at the pic you posted at the bowl thinking, christ, that almost looks like Pinky LOL
haha...Rob and Tania Olzeweski.....close enough. Germ was an engraver or something wasn't he? I reckon I know where Tim lives now... married and settled down now.
I remember Andy and someone else did a really rad jump for the local papers once....all tangled up in the air off the wall jump....one was on a PK.Ripper. Do you remember who the other guy was?
Bloody hell, I spent every day at that track, even went to your house and never even knew your real name.
Wanna know something really funny? When I registered here I thought.....now what's a cool name from bitd.....I remember there was a contest once for a caption to (I think it was a race crash or something) and you rolled up at the track and said "rectangle"
I've found a really blurry pic of me just sitting on my bike in the backyard...I'll scan it this evening.
Wow....this has been awesome!!
I've got some mates I still keep in touch with that turned up at the track every once in a while...they'll freak when they find out I was chatting with Pinky.

Wow , this is freaky !!
Yeah , I lived in Martin Pl. and yeah I was 6ft at 15 y.o. and haven't grown an inch since ! lol !
Yeah , Germ was an engraver. I think he has a cleaning business these days , but I haven't been able to get in touch with him. I think he's in Mentone.
If you can get in touch with Tim , direct him to this site , I'm sure he would be interested.
I came up with rectangle? Wow ! Maybe it was like "wrecktangle" or something ...anyway , I'm flattered that was the inspiration for your user name.
Re the jump pic in the paper....I don't remember that one , the only PK rider that springs to mind is Jamie Cochrane and he wasn't much of a jumper , so I doubt it was him. Andy would have been on a Quicky or a Pro Sight. Ya got me there ????
I'm hanging out to see your pic , brain is going into overload trying to picture you ! And you lived just around the corner too ..... ? What year were you born , just trying to figure out whether you were younger or older than me. I was born in '66.
I agree , this is awesome. Who would think , 25 years later that we could get in touch again and share these great old memories !
Thanks for posting Phil.

Thanks mate , this has been surreal ! I'd give my left one to be able to go back to that time for a week , I guess we never realised how special those times were ....until now , at least thats how I'm feeling.

Couldn't agree more Tony. It was easily the highlight of my childhood and I've often daydreamed about it over the years.
I picked up an old Diamond Back from the hard rubbish the other week which I'm slowly tidying up. I tell ya, I'm going to finish it and take it down to the track and just sit on a berm for a while.
I wonder how many of the guys I could find. hehe...a bunch of old buggers sitting on a berm. If you're ever in Melbourne again, you'll have to come and sit on a berm too

I've been lookin' for years for a flight chainwheel. The GT bars need a rechrome and new stickers for them. Yeah the stem is an MX2 also. Best stem I've ever owned. All I am missing is my Graphites
