Coastvl:
isnt your frame a supergoose2, not just 'supergoose' ???
I was positive the SG2 has the hole in the bb 'block' as well as the 2 small oval holes either side of the brake mouting hole on the brakebridge (which your frame has).
Anyone confirm ???
What REALLY annoys me about bmx products (and we should has asked skip hess) is WHY did they keep using the same names for the various models.
There seems to be 3 supergooses etc and even todays models are still called supergoose, sheesh.
COASTY
Jan 31 2006, 03:36 PM
Marty, apparently the second generation Supergoose had the holes in the BB gusset as well as most of the normal geese. Theres a few different stories around about the hole. It is a known fact that Supergoose frames have 3 holes in the brake bridge though. The original stickers on the chainstays are gold (or yellow) for supergoose and red for the normal goose. I bought the frame brand spankers in 81 so I know it's the real deal.

bit hard to see but all the blue paint (not ano - LOL) is scraped off...
another thing the front weinmann adjuster has been replaced with the standard adj. screw on the mx1000. its good to see someone else used to snap these off when they hit on the down tube first prang!

As promised here is my new goose. Any help with ID would be much appreciated. The guy i got it from reckons it is a supergoose. I don't think it is, but maybe i'm wrong?
Some specs:
Serial is: CA1
380464
Sugino spider and chainring, cranks unknown
Later 80's/90's Odesey Pitbull brake and lever
Shimano DX pedals, covers gone
Araya Rims (were blue anodised at some point)
Joytech hubs, rear DX sprocket
Gooseneck and bars look late 80's/90's
Post has no name, Mongoose?
Saddle says: Freestyle
Clamp is no name
Headset unknown
Grips are AME's
Tyres are recent....
It was tarnished and faded, came up great with some drummers cymbal polish and a buff!
Can see where original decals were.
Let me know if anyone can ID it.

Hi there Piker and fellow bmxers. I'm stuffed. 38hoursw in 4 days. I'm not used to this crap!
Anyway Piker your frame is a January 81 Mongoose. I assume theres no "T" stamped near the number? If there was it would be a Supergoose or a team (obviously without the red or blue). But it doesn't matter, they're a cool frame either way. Bike looks real neat. I like it.
Oh and theres those damn forks again! I want some! I snapped mine off at Blacktown many years ago.

Heres some pics to clear up a few things.
1 frame is a 77 motomag. The other is a december 80 Team with no red coloring.
Both frames are basically identical except for
1: Teams and Supergoose have a T in the serial number (later models don't have the T at all and neither do pre 78 models).
2:77 and earlier models have a coasterbrake mount.
3: Heres a tricky bit. Early models (pre 79??) are nickel. Later teams and super's are chrome and nickel. Go figure ???
4:Brake bridges are the same on all models until the second gen (?) stepdown dropout designs. 3 holes for the chromoly frames and 1 for the goose.
5:Stickers on Teams and Supergoose seatstays are yellowy gold color and normal geese are red.
6: Another tricky bit. The hole in the gusset behind the BB. No early models have a hole. The second gen models have a hole in the chromoly frames BUT some regular geese had the hole as well. (I'm so confused right now)
Anybody like to add to this? Feel free.

One thing I forgot, All chromoly frames have a flattend section on the drive side seat stay to eliminate chain rubbing.

Mongoose's overall cool & desirability factor boiled down to 2 things (to me bitd & even now) , the amount of their "trademark" ornate bead welding that was on them , vs "normal" welding & the frames final plating either nickel or nickel / chromium. I tend to exclude Mose Goose's from the lineup of cool or desirable frames , they may be practical & more suited to a larger rider , but are still an ugly duckling that will never turn into a swan.
Am not too sure why you want a set of Tange style forks for any of your bikes CoastVL , historically those forks never lasted very long when they were on your bikes , you won't hear any complaints from me if you found another set of Bottema forks to fit them to your goose.
The early mongoose frames seems close to indestructable
the forks on the other hand were a completely different story

Hey everybody,
Been busy travelling a bit these past few weeks. If any of you have friends or family overseas and want to make free phone calls, do this:
1. Go to
www.skype.com2. Download & install the app - will take 30 seconds
3. Search for people you know and call them
4. Add me and give me a call - Martin Pimentel in Hong Kong
You need a microphone at least - my laptop has one built in. I'm getting a camera tomorrow - if the person you're calling has one, you can see them at the same time, it's cool and IT IS FREE!

i think skyway tuff 2, 1st series?? had a cog on the back that is the hmm... cassette type??,, the 1 that has the big spring loaded clip that keeps the cog in place, well if i got an araya with the same set up and it spins freely either way..is there a way to either free the hub, or convert the skyway hub bit to fit..it looks exactly the same, but how do u do it?, and its not the cog,,teeth in question, but the actual centre bit..well im confused..

here ya go Mark , Sabre 24
Mr.BMX
Feb 3 2006, 03:48 AM
The main problem with those 1st skyway hub-guts (and shimano cassette hubs too) was the amount of grease & dirt that could get under the teeth and support wire to 'glue' them closed, not allowing them to spring out to catch onto the drive cog.
U should be able to open any of the hubs CLEAN them out, then rebuild and they'll WORK !!!
At worst case, u can change teeth and wire rings between various hubs, theyre all prety much the same guts, although some brands may have slighty different curvature of the teeth etc.
I rebuilt a little over 10 cassette freewheels about 1 year ago, they all work and 'click' now ;-)
From memory the skyways only have 2 teeth, and the shimanos had 2? and other brands (dicta etc) have 3 or 4 teeth (much better).
Marty.
